So incredible this man is, and this song… I’m glad it’s not in the show. I’m glad it’s like a “bonus” song you find when you truly begin to study the show and internalize the message of it.
I just sent this link to a friend of mine who's becoming a U.S. citizen today. I love the song and the sentiment behind it.
You are a true patriot. Thank you.
Thank you for posting this beautiful song. Brian Stokes Mitchell's voice brings a sense of peace and serenity.
I am so obsessed with his singing!
His voice is amazing!❤
FINALLY! I've been wanting to share your link to this song, but you haven't had one, and I sing it every day now, almost all day long. Finding it immeasurably encouraging in a difficult time. Not to be pushy, but is there any chance you would upload a version that includes his intro? I know most people want just the song, but I thought his intro was one of the most beautiful parts.
Thank you all, especially Mr. Mitchell, for sharing this wonderful experience with all of us.
Omg, to have a voice like that!!! Absolutely stunning!!
I needed to listen to this after watching the awful news this AM ...
Absolutely brilliant! Love his voice!
Beautiful!
Wow, this song is a gem, and of course, sung well by BSM!!!
A great song, sung by a great artist whose father was also one of the original “Tuskegee Airmen,” having taught radio code at Moton Field.
Brilliant!
Brilliant song!
Voice like velvet!
Does anyone know which character would have sung this song in the show? I must know!
i’m pretty sure it’s the chorus that sings this (like in “something just broke”)
@@emilycrow8216Yeppers, In Look, I Made a Hat, the character name at the top of the lyrics is "bystanders".
I read that this was originally meant to be the opening for "Assassins" and as it begins, the bystanders are singing it as the President's car drives by, and one by one the bystanders are replaced by the assassins. Chilling!!
Eventually he put this song in Roadshow for the Father character
How does this video have dislikes?
Damn, this song is fantastic. What is the context for the song if it had been in the show? (E.g. which character is singing?)
could be wrong but i figure it has to be the song that was cut in favor of Another National Anthem (so this would be the Balladeer)
It was the original opening number, to be sung by the ensemble as if watching a parade, and then the assassins emerge out of the crowd as the song progresses. But it was replaced with "Everybody's Got the Right", which introduces the characters as individuals more specifically.
This tune was composed for assasins and used later on RoadShow, or backwards? First roadshow then assassins?
cut from Assassins and then used for Roadshow. Sondheim mentions it in his second book
@@danieldutot8847 thank you!!!
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!
