  • Speedrun of We Are Eva by Totally Normal Creature, recorded 11 Mar 2024
My first sub-20 run for the 100% category.
As Eva would say, "But can you do better?"

    Any advise?
How to do that wall-holding jump? I fell if i change dimension.
And how to control Eva in purple dimension? Inverted control fucked too many things...

Which one? The neutral jump where you climb a wall instead of kicking off of it?

@@CatherineKimport All. I know about air-jump with a wall (jumping up) | 5:13 | But... I noticed you do it fast and Eve didnt wall-jump on other side. Any tips about timing?
      But here are main questions.
01:47 - 01:49 | Here is wall-holding moment. Eve jump to one side of the wall, then shift dimension, and she wall-jumps from other side of the wall.
      2:49 - 2:53 | Another example.
3:58 - 4:00 | So, you wall-jump and shift dimensions. I sometimes can do that, but in the name of god how to do it in purple dimension? ( 7:20 - 7:28 ), inverted control ruin any mid-air actions.
4:10 - 4:15 | How to do that jump, dimension shift and wall-climbing/holding move? I tried to do that few times, but Eve just fell. Idk how to direct her to walls.
10:17 - 10:22 | See? You literally hold the edge of the wall, then shift and jumped on non-opposite side.
7:10 - 7:13 | Air-jump with dimension shift? I tried that in one purple-yellow or purple-pink dimension. For some reason gravity quickly pulls Eve.

@@goetia2490 At some point I'm hoping to make a video to explain a lot of the speedrun tech for this game but I just haven't had the time to pull it together yet. I'll do my best to explain with words.
at 1:47 and 2:49 - this trick takes a fair bit of practice to get the timing right but thankfully the early green/brown levels give you some spots where you can practice this. Generally speaking the wall needs to be at least 2 tiles thick for this trick to be reliable.
      - Press the grab button and hold it until you're done with the maneuver
      - Move towards the wall until Eva grabs it
      - Press the dimension shift button (still holding the grab button and the direction you want to move)
      - Wait until Eva is about 1-2 pixels through the wall on the other side
      - Press the dimension shift button and the jump button at the same time (STILL holding the grab button)
If you time it right you'll get the full wall kick jump plus a little mini-boost from clipping through the wall on the other dimension. There is an easier version of this trick that I used to do (find some of the first speedruns that I posted to see what that one looks like) that you might want to practice before this one because it's a lot more forgiving with late inputs. The variation here is that you still do the clip, but you flip to the opposite direction at the same time that you dimension shift so you'll be grabbing onto the other side of the wall. (See this older run at 0:14 for an example: ua-cam.com/video/Cmm1PkaVmec/v-deo.htmlsi=WkCkUuwr5gASNo4r&t=14 )
Regarding Purple Dimension at 7:20 ... it takes a ton of practice. There's no trick to it,o shortcuts. At some point you need to start taking some risks in the purple dimension instead of just doing the safe routes, after many attempts the rhythm of switching directional input at the same time that you switch dimensions will start to feel natural. But I've put in like 140 hours on this game and you'll still see me mess this up. Especially if I haven't been playing for a week or two.
At 4:10 - this is the same trick at 1:47 and 2:49, I just don't grab the wall first since I already have the momentum to get through the wall. I have the grab button held and I'm pressing shift and jump at the same time, when Eva is part-way through the wall.
At 10:17 - this is basically just a neutral wall jump but instead of falling by letting go of the grab button, you fall by shifting dimensions and not having a wall to grab anymore. So it's just not taking the time to let go of grab before I shift, and pressing the jump button shortly after that's what makes it look so fast.
At 7:10 - this is just practice again. Practice until you don't even need to think about the direction changes because you've rehearsed them enough times that gravity doesn't have time to suck you down.
