Thanks for this video. I'm using OBS v27 on Windows 11. Python 3.10 with the PyWinCtl==0.0.38 did not work for me, but playing with the PyWinCtl version install helped solve the issue. Python 3.6.8 with PyWinCtl==0.0.31 works ( I don't know why v31, I just started up from v30) Also noting "Loaded Python Version" under the path does not show on mine but the path still works. Good stuff.

I downgraded from v29 in an effort to get StreamFX working, unfortunately the free version was recently pulled from github. I've just been working off v27 as I'm not quote sure what the benefits are of v29 or it's stability. rationale might not be solid as I'm new to OBS. Happy to hear arguments to the contrary.
I'm using version 29 with Stream FX and it works great! The most recent version of streamFX wasn't compatible for me either. I'm about to head in to work, but if I remember I'll post a link to the version that I'm using that works. All of my tutorials are going to be using OBS 29, so if you want to give it another shot, just let me know what you're wanting to know and I'll do my best to get a video out about it.

If you have multiple monitors and your settings are set to one display and you're trying to follow the mouse on another, you'll likely be wondering why it isn't working. If you're looking for workflow tips pertaining to zoom and follow, there isn't much content on UA-cam that covers it. Most of the content is focused on installation and settings. For example, when you click zoom and click on a URL in your browser, you're no longer in OBS, so the zoom-out won't work unless you click back into OBS. I think a general hotkey for Windows might be the best solution, but you may know of something better. Best, Mike
oh my god I just spent ALL DAY trying to figure this one out from other videos that were posted this year but showing screenrecordings of an old screen of the track and zoom script info and not mentioning how py3.6 really isn't supported anymore with IDE or anything really...so nothing worked. I was here all out trying to figure out how to learn VScode and very beginner coding stuff just to get stuff to work, seeing if anyone already made any fixes for OBS, the works....and this whole time it could've just used .310 and been fine. Thanks for the walkthrough, you got a follow from me! edit: I guess it crops your screen (overridden or not) to the bottom portion and then adds blackspace. No way to extend or uncrop....and script is then functionally useless unless you just want to show people your icon menu)
Thks for this very clear&clever tutorial. Unfortunately the zoom_and_follow_mouse actually available by tryptech is the v.2023.04.16 and your procedure provides the Zoom Source empty and it's not possible to load any source. Could it depend from PyWinCtl 0.0.38?
As of 7/29/2023, this video is still valid. I can get the script running fine with OBS v29.1.3, Python v3.10.11, OBS Zoom and Follow v2023.04.16, and PyWinCtl v0.0.38. The requirements text file in OBS-Zoom-And-Follow-Master lists PyWinCtl v0.0.35 but you can use up to version 0.0.38 without any problem. Later versions of PyWinCtl through 0.0.43 don't work as expected.

Thank you for this tutorial, you explain things really clearly. I laughed at the brain not found bit - been there many times myself! I hate to bother you with this issue, but it is driving me nuts and I was hoping you may have some ideas. I've also posted this down in another person's comment (productive Dude) I have a dual monitor set up in "extend displays" mode, and the mouse follow and zoom works on the left side of the monitor I'm trying to zoom into with the script (the left monitor - non-primary and also not the monitor with OBS in it). However, to move the zoomed in part to the right side of the left monitor, I have to move the mouse all the way over to the second monitor on the right. It's like it is not mapping the screen dimensions properly (but only in the x-dimension, the height seems fine). Or, perhaps more accurately, it's not following the mouse properly once it moves to the right past a certain x-coordinate. Both monitors are set to 3840x2160. If you have any ideas, I'd really appreciate them. Thanks again man, this made the setup super straightforward, especially with the python and pywinctl versioning.
I managed to download the script and install it into OBS fine. Everything seemed to be working just like in the tutorial except in the settings area my settings start at zoom source. The source seems to list 2 sources which do not exist in my OBS and when I click to reload list of sources nothing happens. The script window seems to take up the entire monitor from top to bottom so that I cannot click on the bottom right corner and there doesn't seem to be a way to shrink the window at all so I don't know how to change anything.

@@thesalta72 I followed the whole process and steps in the video, I never had any errors, but simply, in the end, the script doesn't work. basically it looks like it just doesn't recognize the hotkeys or OBS doesn't communicate with windows. I don't speak English, but I can record a video and send you a private link.

@@ttamborino I was having the same problem.. But I find out that the program that was opened and being recorded, was running as administrator, so I had to run OBS as administrator as well, for the HotKeys to work..
One thing that is important to mention: the path of the python folder can't have non-ascii characters, I had "á" in the path since my user is "usuário", so it wouldn't find the folder.

It's zooming in the on the correct monitor: Monitor 2 However it's basing the movement on what I'm doing in Monitor 1 I've tried adjusting the settings in Tools > Scripts > Zoom Source & Monitor Override But it keeps moving based on the wrong monitor. @@ProductiveDude to be honest, I'm not 100% sure why that would be the case. I assume monitor 2 is set as your primary display in windows? If not, that might be the problem. But I'm not sure.

Great tutorial . The zoom works great, however for some reason, the follow part doesn't seem my mouse - or well, it does follow, but on the other screen where OBS is running. Any idea how to solve?
wassup, try adding different shortcuts in the settings (for some reason they separated the mouse follow and screen zoom shortcut) ps: and search for "follow" after searching for "zoom"
our scripts are different....I dont have the same description. the "refresh source list" button doesn't exist and the monitor override doesn't either. someone I talked too has another one thats different than both of ours as well...
The script might have updated since this tutorial... But I'm not sure. Such is life with software. Let me take a look and I'll let you know if I find anything of interest.
think it had something to do with a cache..I deleted the script from OBS, closed it, re-opened OBS and then re-installed the script and now its working its the same
It worked with the obsolete way of capturing the whole screen in MacOS, but it didn't with the "new way" (just in case it's not working for you and you are reading these comments :) )
Great video, everything works but after I close OBS and re-open it, it breaks as in the display capture goes blank. I have to fiddle with the script options and then it comes back. Obs 29.0.2
I find that when my display goes blank if I just deactivate and reactivate the display capture source it works fine. If you want, hit me up in the discord and I'll be happy to look at it with you :)
OMG! Ok, I can't believe u r back right when your "DROIDCAM" vid has just saved me soooo much time & I have been playing it all day today setting up OBS & equipment lol I am a super newbie & am launching a new career on u tube. Your droidcam tut was soooo easy & covered so much because I, literally know nothing about obs/streaming/rec videos. I figured u werent coming back anytime soon to update the droidcam vid. I know OBS has an update but I reverted back to 27.1.3 because when I updated, I no longer saw DroidCam as a source & couldnt follow your tut vid anymore. I wanted to buy the DroidCam pro but it wasnt an option on my phone & couldnt find anywhere to get it. Does DroidCam work with the latest OBS? I set the res to 1920 x1080 but havent downloaded vid recording yet so dont know if there will be a watermark. If DroidCam is obsolete, do u think it will be ok & still function if I just stay in 27? (It's like a house of cards, seems to be working - scared if I mess w anything, it will all crumble lol) Wow, any ? u can answer, I so appreciate but even if u dont - u have still saved my launch/career! I did exactly as per your video, unfortunately when I run `pip install PyWinCtl==0.0.38` I get this error: ``` ERROR: Could not find a version that satisfies the requirement pywin32>=302; sys_platform == "win32" (from pywinctl) (from versions: none) ERROR: No matching distribution found for pywin32>=302; sys_platform == "win32" ``` Tried to search the internet for a solution but can't find it. I remember I had this script running fine with older OBS and Python 3.8 but I can't remember what the version of `obs-zoom-and-follow ` repo was... Welp, thanks for the video anyways. Perhaps one day when I re-install my Windows machine it might work again.

hey i need help iv installed pyton correctly but it still says python not curently loaded iv even set it as path but when i use a premade one by nutty it shows python path but with custom one it says no
same issue here, with or without monitor override it shrinks and crops my monitor/source bounds to the bottom left and might tack somewhat but not zoom or track correctly

I don't have a Mac, so I can't make a tutorial. But I would imagine it's a similar process of downloading python. But looking at how the script is written, I have a suspicion that it would only work with Windows.

Pip is something that comes with. Installing python. Go to control panel, uninstall python, try reinstalling according to the instructions in the video, and give it another shot. If you're still having problems let me know :)

unfortunately, in my case it was more of the same.. I followed all the steps, without errors, but the zoom simply doesn't work..
What doesn't work about it? Where do you notice the first problem?
@@thesalta72 I followed the whole process and steps in the video, I never had any errors, but simply, in the end, the script doesn't work. basically it looks like it just doesn't recognize the hotkeys or OBS doesn't communicate with windows. I don't speak English, but I can record a video and send you a private link.

@@ttamborino I was having the same problem.. But I find out that the program that was opened and being recorded, was running as administrator, so I had to run OBS as administrator as well, for the HotKeys to work..

One thing that is important to mention: the path of the python folder can't have non-ascii characters, I had "á" in the path since my user is "usuário", so it wouldn't find the folder.

I have two monitors.
It's zooming in the on the correct monitor: Monitor 2
However it's basing the movement on what I'm doing in Monitor 1
I've tried adjusting the settings in Tools > Scripts > Zoom Source & Monitor Override
But it keeps moving based on the wrong monitor.
Any suggestions?

@@ProductiveDude to be honest, I'm not 100% sure why that would be the case. I assume monitor 2 is set as your primary display in windows? If not, that might be the problem. But I'm not sure.

Great tutorial . The zoom works great, however for some reason, the follow part doesn't seem my mouse - or well, it does follow, but on the other screen where OBS is running. Any idea how to solve?
same problem its zooming in but no following i think its because this stuf is a lil bit older but its okay its a nice gadget
wassup, try adding different shortcuts in the settings (for some reason they separated the mouse follow and screen zoom shortcut)
ps: and search for "follow" after searching for "zoom"

our scripts are different....I dont have the same description. the "refresh source list" button doesn't exist and the monitor override doesn't either. someone I talked too has another one thats different than both of ours as well...
The script might have updated since this tutorial... But I'm not sure. Such is life with software. Let me take a look and I'll let you know if I find anything of interest.
think it had something to do with a cache..I deleted the script from OBS, closed it, re-opened OBS and then re-installed the script and now its working its the same
It worked with the obsolete way of capturing the whole screen in MacOS, but it didn't with the "new way" (just in case it's not working for you and you are reading these comments :) )
Great video, everything works but after I close OBS and re-open it, it breaks as in the display capture goes blank. I have to fiddle with the script options and then it comes back. Obs 29.0.2
I find that when my display goes blank if I just deactivate and reactivate the display capture source it works fine. If you want, hit me up in the discord and I'll be happy to look at it with you :)

OMG! Ok, I can't believe u r back right when your "DROIDCAM" vid has just saved me soooo much time & I have been playing it all day today setting up OBS & equipment lol I am a super newbie & am launching a new career on u tube. Your droidcam tut was soooo easy & covered so much because I, literally know nothing about obs/streaming/rec videos. I figured u werent coming back anytime soon to update the droidcam vid. I know OBS has an update but I reverted back to 27.1.3 because when I updated, I no longer saw DroidCam as a source & couldnt follow your tut vid anymore. I wanted to buy the DroidCam pro but it wasnt an option on my phone & couldnt find anywhere to get it. Does DroidCam work with the latest OBS? I set the res to 1920 x1080 but havent downloaded vid recording yet so dont know if there will be a watermark. If DroidCam is obsolete, do u think it will be ok & still function if I just stay in 27? (It's like a house of cards, seems to be working - scared if I mess w anything, it will all crumble lol) Wow, any ? u can answer, I so appreciate but even if u dont - u have still saved my launch/career! Glad to c u back & hope u & your loved ones are well & ok. (Sorry for this long comment)

Sounds like PIP isn't installed. You can try the following:
$ python -m ensurepip --upgrade
or
$ python get-pip.py

Try closing OBS and reopening it. It also only works on Display Capture Sources and Window Capture sources.

could you please remake this tutorial with the latest scripts. they've been updated and i cant get this working with the updated zoom and follow script using the versions recommended in this tutorial.
I did exactly as per your video, unfortunately when I run `pip install PyWinCtl==0.0.38` I get this error:

Tried to search the internet for a solution but can't find it. I remember I had this script running fine with older OBS and Python 3.8 but I can't remember what the version of `obs-zoom-and-follow

same issue here, with or without monitor override it shrinks and crops my monitor/source bounds to the bottom left and might tack somewhat but not zoom or track correctly

hey I know I'm like 4 months late but I would appreciate some help. I did everything like you did, but for some reason when it zooms in it doesn't follow my mouse, just stays zoomed in at one place
I think he might have made an update where the zoom and follow are now two different hot keys inside of OBS... But I'm not sure.

I don't have a Mac, so I can't make a tutorial. But I would imagine it's a similar process of downloading python. But looking at how the script is written, I have a suspicion that it would only work with Windows.

So the last step, "num +" What does that mean? How do we setup the zoom setting?
That's just the hot key that I chose to use for my zoom key. But you can use any combination that you want :)

Pip is something that comes with. Installing python. Go to control panel, uninstall python, try reinstalling according to the instructions in the video, and give it another shot. If you're still having problems let me know :)
