Detroit is actually a nice city. It sounds cliche to say it’s “up and coming” but it really is. Hipsters are moving in and they’re bringing their money with them. Plus one of the best airports.

As someone from the UK, the LA discussion is similar to the situation here with London, the capital city. You can live in the other major cities, have every same convenience and pay literally 1/2 or less for rent... it's insane why anyone would live there out of choice
In the recent pandora papers there were mentions of corrupt politicians from my country stealing money and buying property in London. There mentioned 2 bedroom apartments for 1.5-2 million pounds.

Living in LA is quite literally living in Los Santos, but the PS2 San Andreas version.
I lived in Hollywood and in the Valley while living in Los Angeles. When I had bands to play in, it was a fun town but when gigs dried up or if you're like me and you got sick of the scene, there was no reason to stay. That area is so dog eat dog there's little culture left in the music scene.
Tucker would be just as big on Twitch if he still lived in NC... The couple twitch commercials hes been on have been the only difference.

I lived in California since the early 80s. I've NEVER seen California this bad, especially Los Angeles. I finally got out of California and moved to Arizona.

I hate living in large crowded cities. I've lived in La, Philly and New York and it sucks. Always feeling claustrophobic, buildings and people everywhere, no space, no peace and quiet, city heat, pollution and gases from all the buildings, and not to mention the cost of living. Why would any sane person want to live in an expensive crowded city is beyond me.
Because they want to be like pet mice for an inhuman alien. Back when the government went full totalitarian in 2020, I had a friend who lived in a city ask me to reassure her that the government would come in and give food to everyone because "they wouldn't just let us starve, would they?"
People who live in cities are narcissistic idiots who treat everyone else like shit. They all suffer from main character syndrome because they're used to a crowd of people several times larger than the Dunbar number watching everything they do at all times.

Buddies and I at work (keep in mind we are from all over) tried making a list of the shittiest cities. One that's never mentioned, because it's a small city and not many people go there, is Anchorage Alaska. Homeless people are a different breed than I've ever seen before man, and I've been a number of places. The rest of the state is pretty awesome so you don't think about it but it really is an awful place.

In paris there is a law that was enacted in the 70s that nothing can be taller than the Eiffel Tower. There is one skyscraper that was built before this law was in effect. Ironically this cause the surrounding suburbs to be built up with skyscrapers.

That's the way to get wealthy and stay wealthy. I have done the same I've stayed in my affordable area now for 20ish years. I can afford to upgrade but I don't feel the need to at present with the housing market being mental. I keep my eye out for a good deal for sure it's how I got this place back in the gfc.
Everytime I think about looking for a new house in a new area I just can't justify the cost,.time and effort for a small upgrade and it costing me way more. I buy my clothes at Kmart, I don't buy expensive stuff ever really. I treat myself and my family every few months to something new of a cool trip ...but we are golden here. Very comfortable and making it work well.

To move somewhere from North Carolina you be a goddam fool, a lot of good people, beautiful women, lakes, beaches, nudist colony, moutains, fish, open carry, big and small game and everything grows, probably the only place I have ever lived where just a week larer whole town knew me by name, random people always invited me for dinner or bbq, first month i was feeding just from cakes and pies that neighbors and locals left by my door and then landlord lady started refusing to take rent, just because i was doing chors around the house.

@@Macaf4r I lived in both Sd (2017) and la (2018) and have since visited all over SoCal in 2021. I wouldn’t consider living anywhere expect San Diego atm. Parts of SoCal are ok but in general it seems like more of a cesspool. If I were still in ca I’d 100% be further north towards the bay

I grew up in a town of 5000, moved to a major city for a decade, then moved to a town of 3500. When I go back to most large cities (LA,SF,NYC,Chicago) my blood pressure shoots up 5%, I always see something completely unacceptable in a civilized society and am shocked people pay those prices to live in a cubicle. That being said I get it, different strokes for different folks.
For real, don’t mind commuting to close by city… what I save in rent more than covers gas, and when I get home it’s refreshing!
I lived and worked in cities for 25 year and was lucky enough to retire at 45 and I moved straight to the country and I wouldn’t move back to a city if they payed me to stay there. Been in a small rural town (there’s about 3000 here) seems like I went back in time 50 years where everyone is friendly and we have a community.
