    Stomp 442 and Sound of White Noise were hugely influential albums that nobody talks about. I put them up with Helmet's Meantime, among others, in terms of influence. So many heavy bands in the years to come and today owe a debt to these guys.

    I LOVE THIS ALBUM.... Since I bought this record I wanted to listen to it played on stage, then I fell off some stairs and I broke my ankle so I had to have surgery and I was at the hospital for some days. I friend of mine lent me a walkman to listen to this album again and again. The pain was so hard after the surgery.... Anthrax came to San Sebastian, so close to my village... but I couldn't take the pain, even with painkillers... I couldn't see the tour of this album in 1996, it was so hard to me. But fortunately I've seen them many times live, I even met them. Miss the Bush days! Hope to see Anthrax live again with him.

    Stomp was my intro to the band. I worked my way back through their catalog from there and I loved that album! Loved Bush era, loved Joey too! But it’s a mood thing, I love both. Shame about Spitz though, I always thought he was underrated and under-utilised too. But Stomp rocked! Why isn’t it on Spotify!!!

    94 is when my child was born. I have always loved this band and been a fan since the '80s but "honestly" it was this area when I stopped listing to anything new from them till Joey came back. I didn't write them off still told people they are one of my favorite bands and jammed all the earlier stuff, it just wasn't my vibe. I am glad though they grew explored and done what they feel regardless of what others think. Music lives your heart, part of your psyche a piece of who you are and if you aren't true to the music within you are not being true to the soul within. (P.S. ANTHRAX rules!!)

    Interesting fact, guitar player Paul Crook who was "ghost-writer/member" on Stomp, also co-wrote Joey Belladonna's solo album exact same year (1995). So he was something like medium between two worlds at a time. I wonder how did it happen and did they ask Paul "So how is the guy, still singing high?" or "Listen, are they happy with their new singer? Any words about missing me, no?" Really want to hear the band commenting that connection.

    Charlie, if you remember anything about this it would be awesome for some info. The best metal show I ever saw was Anthrax during this tour. I got tickets for Cannibal Corpse, The Misfits and Anthrax. They were playing at this little club in Seattle called DV8. I was not a fan of Bush at the time and most of my friends weren't either. We were there to see Cannibal Corpse. But to tell the truth. Anthrax CRUSHED it. Most of the show Bush was arguing with people behind stage, not singing at all. During some of the songs he had the mic in his pants sticking out like it was his c*ck and he was just mean mugging the audience like some Psycho. They started to play "Among the Living" and stopped half way through because Bush was not singing, then Scot played "Protest and Survive" because bush was not singing. Bush was off the chain that night, climbing on the speakers, swinging from lights hung from the rafters. I SHIT YOU NOT, he was an unchained beast. And then when he sang, it was EPIC. They played "Only" and the entire crowd was just pumped and singing along with so much energy. For years I have wondered what was going on and why was Bush fighting backstage during half of the show. Bush was a madman and I never seen a singer in person sing with so much power behind his voice.

    Mr. B,
    the music on those records with John Bush is too good to be left in the past forever. I love all those early records with Joey, but THE GREATER OF TWO EVILS has the best and most visceral versions of my favorite Anthrax songs from that period. They are so good that I don't even listen to the original records anymore. I really think the best songs from the "Bush era" deserve another chance with the current lineup. It is a big mistake not to do it. If you don't agree, I think you should do it anyway, just to stop me from begging you to do it, 'cause I'll never stop. Please!
    I'm still a big fan since Fistful. 40 years... Time flies and Anthrax keeps getting better!
    Thank you again for being a never ending source of inspiration and one of my biggest references as a composer and as a band. \m/

      Naza-Marcos Nazareth, totally agree, but fact is, Joey can't sing Bush-era songs well; they tried Only live for a while, it did not sound good. I'd like to see them still try the 2 singers/2 sets thing live....

    • @nazamarcos
      @nazamarcos 3 роки тому

      @@jnunez825 The Joey we hear on Worship Music and For All Kings can sing anything.
      In live concerts he insists on that vibrato that just doesn't belong in Thrash Metal.
      If there is one thing John Bush NEVER does is vibrato. When Joey does that he doesn't even sound like himself on the records.
      There is just one thing that would be more awesome than Joey AND John:
      Joey, John, Neil, Lilker, Spitz and Rob.
      It's not a "20 years" cellebration. It's a "40 years" cellebration! \m/

    The mid-nineties were a tough time to be a metalhead in North America. Labels weren't even printing some bands' albums for this market, and you had to order them from overseas. Bands who lived in Canada and the US had to go overseas to tour.... and many just folded because it was getting too expensive and exhausting. The business people decided "that's not what people want to hear over here" and just really aggressively steered away.

    I blame metallica with their watered-down Black album as much as grunge, for giving Metal a bad name in the music business. All the gatekeepers apparently telling bands "be more like that slow, simple, metallica ballad". Weak sauce. 😒 Great to hear the real Anthrax story of this era.

    • @itsalwayssomething7490
      @itsalwayssomething7490 3 роки тому

      Yep, it affected Megadeth in the same way. Dave thought he would find more success going down that route, until it almost killed the band. I think the only band unaffected was Slayer. Luckily, Pantera was keeping that heavy metal torch lit to get through the 90's.

    • @superblondeDotOrg
      @superblondeDotOrg 3 роки тому

      @@itsalwayssomething7490 I believe there was a recent metal documentary where Slayer was up front about that metallica-Black album era with management & everyone insisting they had to write "unplugged ballad" type of songs specifically because of the black album's financial success & trying to chase that. I forget the name but it was a great documentary. All the bean counters only want one thing: more beans... even when the music suffers greatly.. and metal bands are unlikely to be able to write inauthentic music anyways so the resultant songs were not very good. Kerry King also famously said that he bought the black album and listened to it once and threw it across the room & down his stairs or something he thought it was so horrible.. lol Either way still feel bad for John Bush who kind of got the brunt of Anthrax's lack of financial success during this era of, "No, we don't do metal here anymore".

    Coming off of a great sound of white noise album, I can't remember being more disappointed when I heard this disc full of filler. It was a first time anthrax put out something of non-quality.
    And please, enough with this cliche narrative "that it wasn't promoted enough" and "it was the record company's fault.." ... I love when bands say that, deflecting the blame for a poor album on others.

      So I take it you are not a fan of "Random Acts of Senseless Violence" That is my favorite from the album. And there is also a badass ballad on that album.
      Times were changing. Metallica had changed, so did almost every band. If you were a true Anthrax fan, you accepted the band as they were. Does not matter if you were a fan or not.
      At Least Anthrax never put out "St. Anger" or even a couple of Megadeth's equally bad albums. I would include Slayer - but what are their worst songs.
