I was gonna say that sometimes it's better to go for more fights rather than events for a run like this since you get more cards, but he went for the events anyway so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I probably would have been fine to take that route but with 0 campfire's until the boss I wasn't sure if the extra relic would be worth risking the run to an unlucky cultist encounter.
I think this challenge might be easier on ironclad just because of all the innate exhaust synergies for cards and relics. So props for doing it on the silent!
@@MrCouchPotatasee he is kinda right, for the first one you deal 70 damage, then to each split, you deal 35 to each, a total of 140, then you have 4 slimes and have to deal 35 to each, the max hp is indeed 460, but the actual damage you have to do is only 280 in the worst case.
Exactly. Get him down to 70 and he splits, now you have done 70 and need to do 70 twice more. So 210. Get those down to 35 and they split now you need to do 35 twice more, so 70 extra. So 210 + 70 = 280. But easier to have to do much less, so he's in line with other Act 1 bosses for sure.

It do just be like that sometimes. Some people just aren't cut out for certain games, some people just play for fun instead of to be the best, some people just have trouble with certain types of thinking but are better at others, etc. Some people absolutely annihilate some hard games and can't get out of the tutorial in others. Sometimes even in similar genres, like both games being roguelikes. There are so many possible reasons and it's different from person to person and game to game. (Sorry to take your comment a bit too seriously, it just gave me the opportunity to talk about something I've had to explain before. Nothing against you and your comment, just thought I'd put this out here for people to see 😄if it can even make one player feel less bad about how they're, idk, amazing at Hollow Knight but suck at Elden Ring (or vice versa), then I'd be happy)
@@archerelms y'know I honestly appreciate the fact you took the time to type this out, as someone who is also not that good at most video games it's nice to see im not alone
Curious why you took astrolabe over an energy relic after the second boss. With both nightmare and wraith form it seems like the extra energy would be pretty important. I think either the extra strength or the limited card options would not have been that bad for act 3
With very little way to put up block, I was def afraid of Philosopher's Stone. Damage is scary. For busted crown, since I knew I'd be taking basically every card I could, it felt wrong to leave that card up to chance. Especially with my very specific wraith form + offense strat, stuff like tactician would be rough. Also, I kinda just like sacred bark. With a lot of these challenge runs, potions remain one of the only unmodified game mechanics which means if I can buff them, I probably should.
Not to be that guy but any issue you had with nightmare and wraith form not being drawn at the same time was so easily avoidable it hurt my soul a little bit , at the shop where you picked up dollys mirror there was literally an on sale well laid plans
I'm guessing how your mod works is you had to manually program every card in the base game to have the exhaust keyword. Was Programming a special Event relic you start the run with that says After Playing a Card Exhaust it not an easier option to achieve the same outcome. also if you did it via a relic then even modded characters can attempt this challenge as well.
I know im super late lol (I just found this video) but I just wanted to say that Anger + DE + FMP would go crazy here, easy to set up infinite that wins every combat encounter except maybe snail, you would probably need like a second FMP or a shuriken for that.
I like the idea behind this video, you could also do "all cards discard", "all enemies have thorns", "all enemies have beat of heart" (or all cards deal damage), "all cards cost one more", "with one less draw every turn", etc.
I can't get enough of these challenges 🔥 Also, in defense of Endless Agony, a 0 cost double hit for 4 damage is actually really decent. Even though the duplicating effect itself is not always great (unless all your cards exhaust.)
All my homies hate Java. I just use the Fabricate mod whenever I need a new challenge effect. I just make an unplayable soulbound curse/status that increases max hand size and then also has the effect that I need.
Wait if you’re doing mods you should do every boss relics downside like you can’t smith or rest because of fusion hammer and tea drinker without the energy gain (unless you get them during the run)
I just started the video but Ec1pz, thank you for hating the Watcher the same way that I do. It's a personality trait the community needs a lot more of.
70 (split) + 35(left split) + 70(Left babies) + 35(right split) + 70(right babies) = 280, thats the worst case for slime boss, while bad it is only 280
Besides watcher, would defect be a good pick, since it can do lightning repeatably, and it has a focus on powers that stick around. (Hello world might even be considered cheating)
I do think I would have played Ironclad as other comments have mentioned but in the same spirit of avoiding dead branch, but without making it a rule, it's cool that you chose another character I also might have considered Defect since it has orbs to act as permanent cards and a good powers deck might just create two or more new cards a turn anyway, but idk how many attempts that would have taken compared to this.
5:24 Slightly off with the math here: If you got the worst-case splits possible, you'd deal 70 damage to the big slime, then 35 to each of his halves, then 35 more to each of his fourths. That would take a total of 280 damage to win. Not 560. I don't blame you for getting the numbers wrong, you must've felt *exhausted* at the time.
If Dead Branch was allowed then the difficulty of challenge mostly gets trivialized, also my guess as to why they didn't pick ironclad was to prevent cards like dark embrace and feel no pain from being op.
Trying to win this kind of run must have been, exhausting
I don’t get it
Shut up and take your medal
I don't get it
I don't get it
Oh! I think I... No. Wait. I still don't get it
you had a possible 1 hp burning elite, and not taking it hurts my soul

I was genuinely about to crash out when I realized he was playing on the silent and not the iron clad
or the defect, frost or lightning orbs could be pretty nice.
You could have not picked a worse character for this challenge 😂
Ec1pz: points at most OP character
Also Ec1pz: "this is TRASH"
I think this challenge might be easier on ironclad just because of all the innate exhaust synergies for cards and relics. So props for doing it on the silent!
Your Slime boss Math was wrong btw. In the worst case scenario where you deal exactly 50% of its health to every phase it would be 280 health.
@ but you only deal half of that damage. So 70 + 2(35) + 4(35) = 280

Glad to know that even experienced programmers have trouble making something like this. This makes me feel better as a programming student, actually.
5:00 Nope. Your maths is way off. The Slime has a maximum health of 280 if you get the worst possible splits.
^^^ Was thinking the same thing.
The math is accurate. The logic wasn't. If you split at half, the next half doesn't really count.
