4.35 made me laugh😂 "being careful not to stab your horse." 😂😂
0:42 I thought she was just going to say, "You will need a horse", but then she continued... 😂
I've never had to braid a mane before (I've always ridden Western, now I'm training an English horse. Total culture shock!) and this helped bunches. thanks! :)
Doing my second dressage soon and going to plait the horse I'm using, this really helped!
Thank u so much! Ive got a show-jumping show this Saturday and this helped me.
The horse is gorgeous!! I love horses ❤️❤️❤️
Ive always wondered how they get the little "spikes" in the horses mane (that's what I used to call them since I didn't know what they were). now I know how! :D thx for the awesome tutorial !!
I got a bit nervous seeing her stick the needle through the plait 😂 I could never trust myself with something so simple
Wow me too I am terrified I hope the horse is fine and great🐎🐎🐴🐴🐴🐴😝😝😝😄😄😄😄😆😆😉😉😉😃😃😜❤️❤️
something you can do to cut down on the chance of pricking yourself or your horse is use a darning needle. they are much duller and thicker so they are gentler

If you are concerned about using a regular needle, the big plastic yarn needles available at most craft stores work just as well and will not stab the horse, or yourself. I braid with the plastic needles and thin yarn. One other tip, braid the yarn into the mane from the beginning, as you braid down the section, braid in a length of the yarn, leaving a tail of about six inches at the top. It makes it a little easier to tie off the braid at the top because you'll have two sections to tie of with.
The yarn will also help a thinner mane look fuller, and can be easier to deal with than thread.
One other thing, if the mane is LONG, and you are unable to pull it for whatever reason (I deal with driving horses and some breeds are not pulled), the tail of the braid can be pulled up through the top of the braid next to the neck, sometimes even a couple of times, to create a roll where the bobble is. You'll have to do smaller sections, but it makes braiding a long mane possible and looks so much better than leaving big loops under the bobbles. :)
Otherwise, great video, very clear and easy to follow. :)
Gorgeous Horse and Excellent instructions!! Thanks for sharing. You thought of the horse's comfort and safety too!! I really enjoyed your instructions!!
Thx this helped ALOT Im getting a horse, my mother had one when she was a child so she can teach me some things too!
I tried needle and thread for the first time yesterday but i used a plastic needle because thats the only big needle i could find....I wouldnt suggest it for horses that spazz out about braiding though. I'm so lucky that my pony is an angel!!
I managed to do this without the needle by a band fastening and threading the twisted bottom half of the plait through, came out fairly neat but her mane isn’t pulled and is quite long/thick but still resembles the above, lol!
very beautiful especially the forelock
How does this affect the horse? Do horses prefer their mane untouched or braided? Isn't there a physiological purpose to the make hairs being individual???? Explain
I'm going in a show this Sunday with my friends. My horse has been practicing jumping because it is a jumping competition. I'm Think I will plait her mane.
Haha this is a neat video that's very helpful.I'd do the needle one but none of the school horses I ride will stay still enough as it is lol (They don't go to shows very often anymore so they get excited X__X) But it did help me out a ton XD
Arrrrrrrrrf ! This is exaspering voice ! xo
Arf like a doggo
I leave my horses mane it plaits for a couple days at a time as it helps to weigh down her mane and stop her looking like such a zebra, is it only when the plaits are rolled up that you can't leave them in?
This video is so good!!👍👍
This was extremely helpful!!
@dianna sordo For western, you band, which is just seperating the mane into sections, like what you do before you braid.
Cool thanks it will be great for my horse show
She didn't plait on the wrong side of the neck, she plaitted on the other side to what you're used to. Not all areas have to plait on the right hand side of the neck, some do it on the left, and others do it depending on which ever way the horses mane grows.
I love this video👍👍
It means that you have an odd number in the mane, and then when you include the forelock you get an even number. example: 7 braids in the mane, but 8 braids including the forelock. An uneven number of total braids is sometimes considered unlucky.
It means you have a odd number in the mane then 1 plait in the forelock to make it even say if u had 19 plaits in the mane the forelock would make 20.
Great Video. Thank you.
It means that you do an odd number of plaits on the mane, then the one in the fore lock makes it an even number x
@mggaby123 i think it´s nice for them to get the mane away, not flappering on their neck, but maybe i´m wrong?
This helped me very much I will have to try that out sometime
Thank You very Much! Very Helpful! I will trythis for my next compatistion!
I always cringe when somebody uses a needle and thread because I'm terrified that they're gonna stab the horse xD
Rebecca Norman .
that really helped me on my horses mane
thanks, this helped a lot, i use this when i go to show :)
I have a purple magical unicorn to plait, so can I use those plaiting bands? Thanks :) lol
Thank you. This video was very informative.
She means altogether in the mane there should be an odd number off plaits, and counting the forelock you should have an even number altogether :)
He looked so cute!
We put a skinny hood on and just leave them in the paddock overnight, we always plait the day before a comp!
wuta! Lol I was trying to braid my horses mane like that for cross contry thank you for the info
Thankyou, this video has really helped!
why cant you leave plates in over night?
most helpful video ever!!!!!!!!!
I did this without cutting the mane down so much and it worked just fine.
I HATE pulled manes. It doesn't suit my mare. I just trim her mane :)
Screw the needle, I'm sticking to bands. More than one plait on the forelack will just look stupid. Leaving the plaits down looks nicer I think :)
1) You need a horse WITH A PULLED MANE GENIUS! LISTEN BEFORE YOU GO OFF RANTING!
For showing hunters and dressage it has to be plaited on right
typically you would need to go on whichever side the horses mane is on or it wouldn't work haha
then train the mane to lie on the right side lol
no u *HAVE* to braid on the right
me ha gustadfo mucho este video
what I leave my braids in overnight the whole fair week and they're fine lol
This is brilliant!
Platting the horses mane with a needle and cotton seems more risky if your not careful I dont know anyone who uses the needle and cotton but it does look nice.
could you do this for western to??
personally i like the forelock left down, it look more natural and rounded.
how do you get the string out of the mane
and what's about horse with long mane? please help and make another video
thannkk yoooou , now i can braid my horse for the shooow :)
What if you lose the needle in the hay stack?
thank you this helped alot!!!!
My horse has a short puffy mane that is impossible to plait
The Jumping Gymnast u need to thin it then lol
you can get fairly thick blunt/dull needles. certainly not the sharp type.
odd number up the neck and then add the forlock at the end, thus giving an even number of plaits!
I don't know if it's because this is form a different country or something but just saying, we put our braids on the RIGHT side of the neck. not trying to be mean or anything, just saying
That sounds like too much work :3 Can I borrow your horse for a month? xD Thanks for the Tutorial.
Wow! thankyou! help me so much! :D your amazing thankyou
it means, when you plait the mane, you should have an uneven number along the neck, and then your forelock bud makes it an even number :)
"Ain't nobody got time fo' dat."
Is that uncomfortable for the horsie?
amei o video me ajudou um monte,e para os desinformados a transa da cola ou da crina é para conpetições eventos, desfiles etc...~e lindo mas a cola com trança se rais fk legal somenti em égua.ok
That looks easy I will do it on my horse
Hi, there is the only ione tecqunique i say you should use. The little bands are better, don't want to hurt your horse!
Oooh! I'm braiding my horses forelock for my next lesson!
but what if u plait the mane the night before???? why cant they stay in over night
The horse might get irritated it it is tight when they are resting in their stall, the horse might also rub the plaits out or get them knotted.
I always plait the night before and put a hood on to keep them In place
This really helped me! (:
a short and thin mane, you should pull your horses mane when it gets too long and not cut it as it gives a better finish and it thins it out too, i could explain pulling manes but watching a video would show you better than i can explain
How did I get to this video?
That is so awesome
odd number of plaits in mane, and WHEN you add in the forlock it becomes an even number.
that horse looks just like blue hors matine! RIP BLUE HORS MATINE! WE WILL MISS YOU!
Plz do more
Pretty horse!!
took your time but did show me how to do it
aww, i bet that looks so cute :D
My pony is purple and its called pinkie and its best friend is a small dragon .
it's easy for you but my pony has loads of thick mane on both sides of her:/ .....
i need to practice this omg
I did show braids before i always uaed clear bands no sewing that way you never have to buy diff colors
I always do it the night before and if some braids fall out I just do it again in the morning ha
I AM GONNA HAVE NIGHTMARE'S ABOUT THAT VOICE.
HOW MANY OF YOU HAVE HEARD OF SUNNYRIDGE HORSEMANSHIP??? IT'S RUN BY ELIZABETH JENSEN. SHE HAS SOME GREAT HORSEMANSHIP STUFF!!! LIKE HER FACEBOOK PAGE AND TELL ALL YOUR HORSE FRIENDS TO DO THE SAME! HER FACEBOOK PAGE IS CALLED: SUNNYRIDGE HORESEMANSHIP.
Am I the only one pulling my hair out thinking "wrong side!!" haha
Thank you.
Can u do this with a fjord mane?
Of course! However, how thick if your Fjords mane? If it's like the big thick traditional ones, then you'll need to think it and cut it.
ty
Where does the third hand come from?! 2:48
Aw beautiful
That stool is richer than me
I just braid Lush´s mane and put them in rubber bands, why so advanced?

"And in some events like hunting and dressage, and plaited mane is mandatry" XD
I thought this was a video about french braiding.
Do you like or know lots about horses
So pretty! :D
