Charlie Benante has always been a forgotten name in the drumming conversation. His chops are fire, especially on the Material with John Bush are just insane. So much groove but with a punch, and his footwork just slays. Yes, he is a well known drummer from the “Big Four”, but I wish people would get behind just how GOOD Charlie Benante really is.
Ya I feel like everyone talks about Lombardo or Gene, (deservedly) but people forget about Benante and Tom Hunting, two guys who have done it just as long and just as well. Thrash is lucky to have such top notch musicians.

If anyone out there into Zeppelin doubts this, go watch him play the Bonzo bash stuff, he slays the songs he covered, (Tico easily steals those shows, but Charlie was easily in my top 5 of that stuff). He's covered for Lars more than once and has filled in some pretty damn big shoes at other gigs too. Sadly this kills my, "could Delta be Charlie?" thoughts, but I had all but decided no anyway so...
Still though, given the range of styles and songs he's into, add in his size and I dare say he could be. DAMN Delta, you brought the HEAT with this performance and missed NONE of the nuance! Whoa, amazing performance and the kit sounds awesome. Even with all of the wild parts of this song, my favorite is when it breaks back into the beat at 2:26 ...and then you top it off with that rad double-kick fill at 2:31. Quality drumming.
