Joey 64 the best part of the whole soundtrack are the sonic/shadow songs in my opinion. Especially live and learn which I use for powering up in dnd campaigns
I'm actually more surprised at the number of comments who really enjoyed this game along with myself... I definitely feel we should voice the games we really enjoyed, because it seems like the scales are tipping in terms of what people liked in Sonic's history. Especially regarding some mid to late 2000's games.
It's not that bad. I kinda wish Sega could just remake this and Secret Rings. I think if they had made an adventure game for both of them, they could've been fun games that are replayable.
@@sonicthehedgehog1416 That wouldn't be a remake then, now would it? And honestly, I'm sick of people heralding the Adventure formula as the perfect end all be all Sonic gameplay style like it has no faults. And whenever a game doesn't do that formula, they immediately call it garbage.
@@johnathonturner2279 I'm not saying that it should be like the Adventure game. I'm saying that should have made it like a Zelda game but still incorporate Sonic's main focus. I never played the Adventure games but I can tell that they are overpraised, especially 2 since it could be way better than it is. Edit: And I meant to have said reimagine not remake. My bad.
Who needs voice in swords!? Assist characters in medieval ages ALWAYS are annoying in video games, tnx NAVY & Caliburn (actually worse since you can hear a shrieking "well done" from the wiimote if you do something "good")
@@yarr_bro haha i don’t remember anymore that was 10 months ago, i just remember they said something completely random and i had no idea why they replied to this comment
To be honest this game is actually one of my favorites. You can hack and slash and still keep momentum really fast if you actually know how the game works. And sonic is supposed to fast soooo. Its also sad that the story book series stopped after this one because as you stated, they seemed to actually be improving. Plus Sonic helped me get interested in certain books I wouldn't have normally as a kid.
I'd love to see a 3rd storybook game on the switch about greek mithology But since SEGA cares about what critics say and not what everyone says, that's never gonna happen.
I actually thought that the story had managed to do SOMETHING good here. Most stories forget about the scabbard entirely, and I was genuinely surprised by the later betrayal.
@@4ncientGu150 as far as I was aware the scabbard wasn't important. It's not called Avalon, that's the Island afterall. Does it actually have importance to the mythos?
@@r.k845 Depending on how far back/which version its either the scabbard or the belt. But yes, it does basically what we know it to, makes you immortal and youthful.
@@r.k845 (This is based off of my British Literature class) According to Sir Malory, the one who is the most closely related to have the "Arthurian legend" be what it is known for today, such as the characters Lancelot and Gawain, the scabbard was originally only meant to keep you from harm in battle. Basically, you can't get hurt. Idk which legend made the scabbard even more useful, but I'm just telling you what the original power of the Excalibur scabbard was.
That’s definitely where we give this game credit. Even if there are people that don’t really like it, they have to admit, it’s definitely an improvement from its only predecessor.
As someone who also completed this game while I was young and bored gaining the followers in game actually unlock special skills in your swordsmanship trees. There were 3 1 based on speed, another power, and one balanced while completing the speed and balanced happened very quickly the power tree required every single follower to max out which gave you the ability to turn into an auto attacking lightning bolt for those curious. Kinda surprised it wasn't mentioned at all.
Honestly I like sonic and the black knight cause it felt unique from everything else sonic does on a day to day basis..... I'd rank it in the top 3 out of every game I've played for his series with the other 2 spots being taken by the first 2 in the sonic riders series
I can't be the only one who enjoys this game. It was pretty cool going fast and slashing through monsters. Also shadow holding his sword backwards was interesting.
Judging by all these comments, your aren’t the only one who likes this game, not by a long shot. It seems the majority disagrees with Jirad which is a first
Black Knight is a fantastic example of merging combat with high speed, with similar flow to that of Mega Man Zero. I have no idea what happened in this video for Jirard to completely overlook how the combat is designed.
I liked this game, as well. Music and final boss was awesome. I think each person's experience with this series will vastly differ depending on how seriously they approach it and how well the wiimote decides to behave.
@Sunset's Channel yeah you're right, I remember doing most of the stuff like collecting all the weapons for everyone and this made me love the game more.
I feel like I'm the one guy who loves this game for being different? I liked the swordplay because I could still go fast, but slow down time and slash through everyone with precision. Experimenting with other characters was fun too! Am I the anomaly here?
You're not alone there, altho i like this game for what it could have been. I mean... they had a lot they could use from Arthurian legends... but they just decided to not use any of it... which is th sad part... but still, like i said before in another video where this game was mentioned... i still love the idea of thinking about how a sonic version of the round table would be... still as fucked up as the original, yet funny to imagine.
Not just you, I adore this game! I played it so much that I completed it, and I still love to go back to it even after. It's truthfully one of my favorites.
"This game deserves to be a lost footnote" I'm gonna stop you there. This is legit still one of my favorites. Controls terribly at times, but still really fun to get into.
Both Secret Rings and Black Night didn't need to be on the wii, remakes or remasters of these games that could give them redefined controls would make them such better games. I still loved both of them though secret rings was my childhood and finding out about black knight made me so happy
@@blazinginferno15 they have different origins but are both King Arthur's divine sword, they're just different versions of one another. I believe Caliburn was granted to Arthur by the lady of the lake and Excalibur was drawn from the stone
Yeah like, wtf. These graphics are sweet for wii game, while yes, mostly you see are castles and tress, they still look interesting because of sky, lighting, and the use of colors. And the Storybook presentation looks nice and does the models
The double standards of basement dwelling mainstream nerd. He said the Wisps compliment Sonic's gameplay, when they're nothing but annoying, pace-breaking, timed minigames, put in order to pad the shallow Boost gameplay. So there is a precedent to his hypocrisy.
Honestly(in my opinion)this is a great game. It has a cool unique story, amazing music and fun mechanics including classes leveling up and multiple playable characters. One of the most unique sonic games, no doubt.
Justin Arney I agree with you on that! This was one of the first few sonic games I owned/played. I played it with my cousins and we had such a great time playing. My only reason for not finishing it was because I couldn’t get passed the last Arthur fight and decided to quit. But even then I still love the game.
@@danteallstar826 I remember having such a hard time with that fight because I think there was a move in the air your had to perform without any prompt to do so.
Justin Arney, I mean it’s good in Sonic standards but for King Arthur legends it looks like a first grader wrote it. No offense of course. And if they really polished the story of King Arthur’s kingdom falling apart due to the knights and this new character who manages to mend the rifts. Then they really should’ve read more King Arthur material or make it a different title.
10:20 Okay, I'm not saying some settings couldn't be more interesting when I point this out, but you really chose a weird time to show footage of a convoy of massive (prison?) wagons being pulled by giants
Oh yeah! I really miss this game. It was one of the first games I ever completed 100% as a young kid at 9 years old. I know there are others who completed games at younger ages, but everyone’s different. I’m proud of this game for making me feel happy.
I mostly remember this game for its beautiful ending. Even though the gameplay had its hiccups here and there, I really enjoyed the presentation. At the end, when Sonic consoles an anxious girl scared of dying, his words really resonated and taught me the intrinsic value of life, while also helping my 6 year-old self accept loss as a natural part of living.
I completed it at 24, and it still gave me chills. This game was my entry in the Sonic fan club It may not be perfect for everyone, but the game was fun enough for me, the story beautiful, and the caractérisation a good blend of cartoon and réalisme All and all, a good game
Damn, it's sad that Jirard didn't see the effort put into this game. I mean yeah the game has its clunky parts but for being a sequel to Secret Rings, this game improved in almost every aspect (gameplay, story, soundtrack, mechanics). Even the complains Jirard had in the review (when he talked about sonic needing to stop to do qte prompts for the missions, or how when sonic needed to stop to slash enemies, making the game pretty stop-n-go) had solutions in the Blacksmith system. There you can use all (yes all of the items. Believe me, Every item works) to upgrade the style you're playing. You can get perks like slashing while running (without interupting the flow of speed), doing the villager quests without qte's (just having Sonic running past by them) and finally a style that is more focused on speed. By gaining followers, you can improve the style of "knight" that you're playing. This, I think, adds a good amount of replay value in this game. Trying out different styles changes the pace of this a bit. Also the extra "legacy" missions served as an homaje to the series. I really see this game as a better sequel to secret rings and actually see this as a decent sonic game, because of the amount o "fan service" and call outs to the series this has. To me, this game is an underrated decent Sonic game, too bad that Jirard didn't see this though😢
@@zeroescape I guess you could say that. But if you ask me someone who has also 100 percented this game three times now. I think it warrants at least a playthrough.
@@zeroescape Dude, l've only played this game since last year (and I'm 20). The one I played when I was a kid was Secret Rings. And I completely agree that that game is trash😂. For Black Knight, I wasn't talking about nostalgia, just some callbacks to the series in general. Yes, the review was somewhat fair, but like I said, some of Jirard's complains had their solutions within the game. It's just that he didn't bother trying them out (making his completion of the game all the more boring). Still, I can see why the comtrol hinders the accesibility of this game to fans. But on the other hand, since I'm not as hardcore sonic fan as he is, maybe that's why he is more critical about the game
I feel Jirard thought people still hated this game so he based his opinions around what he thought the internet still felt when in reality, people are starting to appreciate these games more now since recent sonic games have been a bit meh. Any other sonic games you guys think are pretty underrated?
Got carried over? Are we... Are we playing the same game? Sega got rid of "tilt mote left and right to turn" and all that in Black Knight. Basically the only motion command now is to swing a sword Sounds nitpicky, but I feel that's just unfair. Black Knight is definitely not the greatest Sonic games, but it was still enjoyable enough. The only gripe I have is farming followers. Also spear enemies... Other than that it was actually quite a pleasant little adventure Also, Blaze as a knight is pure waifu material
@@polkadi It also gives Blaze an (official???) theme instead of just vela-nova , which while i enjoy, is shared with sonic which kinda ruins the original feel for me.
@@geistgrace6452 does it through? There were some generic zoro-type music before her boss fight. And equipping Percival medal changes level music to vela-nova
@@nolanstrife7350 that's why I said "(official???)" I don't think its her theme per-say, but it kinda fits her in a way. btw, what is sonics theme? i keep forgetting.
The music thing is pretty much every Sonic game, though. BUT! I must agree that the game is better than most give it credit for, plus YES, Crush 40 did a great job on the theme and the level music is just 👌
I feel the same way. Jirard was complaining about the controls, and all I have to say about that is "Use the gosh darn WII MOTION PLUS, you idiot!" Also if you are into the Hack and Slash genre, this game is actually pretty fun.
I love this game and I always get upset when I see people missing what I love. I'm not mad at Jirad, he's entitled to his opinion, but a lot of people on the internet seem to miss everything I love and it seems they just... This is gonna sound really bad, but it seems a lot of people either just don't get it, despite the tutorials that make it all clear and easy, or intentionally play badly to make fun of the series.
This is actually my favorite Sonic game on the Wii, also I thought you like Sonic Unleashed, also why are Sonic Riders zero Gravity, Sonic Rush Adventure and Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed on that list of "tossing things at the wall to see what sticks"
That's effectively what they were. Throwing things at the wall. It just so happens that those are some of the games that "stuck." "Throwing things at the wall" doesn't always mean "all of these things are bad," it can sometimes mean "all of these things are weird."
It's a shame you didn't enjoy this game, Jirard. When I played it, I loved it. I thought it was a short but sweet spin-off, with a surprisingly good story and writing, not to mention a killer soundtrack. If nothing else, it's an improvement of the Secret Rings gameplay style
Personally I enjoyed this game a lot when I played it, and it is a major step up from Secret Rings. Though I can see why completing it would be a bit of a drag.
Uh.....yeah. Kinda missing the crafting feature aren't we? Crafting swords for the Round Table Knights is technically a reward. Also there are medals to change up sounds which is kinda dope. Also the 1 on 1 fights are pretty dope, especially the rematch vs Shadow's Knightsona. Why is that not included in the review? Along with that, aren't usually final fights and the story included in these reviews or am I missing something? The game's referencing a pretty nice story and even goes somewhat deeper with references like using the alternative name of Excalibur; Caliburn. The game surely is short and some of the challenges are god-awful but if you play properly, you got potential to rush through levels (for the most part) like never before. They also included some gameplay mechanics like perfect shielding which gave you meter which is a crucial feature to use in the rematch against Shadow. Also how can you not talk about the later part of the game? The writing is so good, you feel like you got time against you, the plottwist was not one you would expect easily and this game probably has the absolute best transformation and the most epic transformation cutscene to go with it (except maybe the butt cape but that at least has comedic value). The audio is one of the best ones as well and it doesn't use the cringe writing they have done in the newer cames following this one. I'm kinda sorry but I do not get behind this review at all. A lot of the positive things are overlooked/ignored while only negativity got showcased. Considering that Sonic and a storybook should not go together, it's a pretty fun story.
I know this is a seven-month-old comment, but agreed. This review in general feels off. And for whatever reason, there feels to be a bit of hypocrisy? Like he says the environments and such looks unoriginal and dull, yet show the giant trolls dragging wagons filled with people and then Sonic grinding on a string from a giant crossbow into a wreaked castle. The environments here look amazing for what they were going for. And like you said, he states that the items don't do anything... yet you use them to craft better weapons. He also continuously states that this game had no love put into it and was made lazily with a "why not" mentality thrown in, which is a statement with no support and one I strongly disagree with. The improved gameplay, the different gameplay styles, the unlockables with multitudes of references to Sonic and King Arthur lore respectively, the inclusion of fanart, the new characters in multiplayer mode, the overall style of this game, the ambition; this game feels and looks like it has more love put into it than any Sonic since Generations. And this isn't even my favorite nor one of my favorite games! I'm not a fan of the gameplay on the Wii (which is really my biggest issue with the game) and I know there are flaws in this game, but there is a lot this game does that deserves more credit. Like you said, it seems like he just overlooked/ignored the positives while amplifying/showcasing the negatives, having the mentality that "Sonic games were rough until Colors" as fact. It just felt really off, since I usually enjoy his reviews of games in the past.
honestly, I liked this game enough that I wouldn't mind if Sonic Team would try to revisit this concept, maybe using the Adventure formula as a base instead of the Auto-runner Boost Formula hybrid they used
Jirard, why do you do this to yourself? We all know that you hate motion controls, and practically every 3D Sonic game from Adventure 2 onward has nightmarishly boring completion criteria. To a regular player this is an easy Finish It; the level design is better than Secret Rings (which was well received at its time of release), it is among the best post-Dreamcast 3D Sonic games in how it handles multiple playable characters, the dialogue brings a smile, and the soundtrack is insanely good. This game is basically the end of the Crush40 era, and they went out with a bang. Once you ignore the meaningless collectibles, the only major drawback is the lack of boss variety, which is the one thing Secret Rings did better.
I'm kind of surprised with the "Look At It" rating. Sure the game may not be fun to complete 100%, but I think the gameplay itself at least warrants giving the game a try. Barely mentioned how this game improves on the issues Secret Rings had too.
Then again, he barely mentions any of the similarities between the two beyond a surface level. Lots of this video just felt like empty words more than actual review, tis rather strange.
Mellon, in a way it can be. He does complain about the sluggishness a bit too much. But if you pay attention he does say the world and the story could’ve been better and bigger like an event (something SEGA used to treat every Sonic game). He also says how going fast and doing the swordplay in this game feels not polished enough. It doesn’t exactly have the synergy it needed to have and the levels sure aren’t built for it either. And I thought that’s what the all the Sonic games do. In here, it’s binary: “you’re either [going fast] or you’re not. You’re either [swinging the sword] or you’re not.” It tries to satisfy swordplay with speed but it fails both. It’s OK in the Boost games or the racing games, but this one really needed more time in the oven to make everything flow better because this game needed that “Classic mentality” the most.
@@jasonnguyen1072 The swordplay and speed flow seamlessly if you actually know how the combat works. You can homing attack + sword swing to barrel through series of enemies while slicing them all, do backflips and slash at once, fall down on foes with a spinning cutter and then blast off at full speed, etc. Theres a lot more to the combat than just mindless swinging or stopping in place.
Mellon, yes and I know what you’re talking about when you’re referring to that. And if you use those things then yes you can enjoy the game. But there are other stuff the game puts out that completely kill the synergy of it. Especially for the times you are going slow on foot. Such as sword itself (especially for Sonic), is especially not that fun. It needed more attacks than three slashes and jumping (both separate mechanics btw). Maybe a combo or completely new mechanic even that can be more complicated but satisfying to pull off on the land other than a block and three sword slashes. Back flipping and slashing can be cool (especially when dodging enemies) but it can only satisfy you for so long. Same with the platforming, it is stuff like these that are bringing the franchise down due to it being like a generic platformer like the 2D sections and to an extent Generation’s 3D sections (Forces and HD/7th Gen Unleashed too). The main attacks are cool yes and you can have fun with them and they flow well, but they are what also kill the game and the attacks you do on land and foot don’t work well with these attacks at all. The Spin Attack is the only real satisfying way to get work done in base as like you said it blasts you off when you land. But it also encourages people to spam it instead of actually using the other moves. Same with the Jump Dash (“Homing Attack”). The Soul Surge is also an excellent way of doing things but it is what also killed the game in terms of level design and gameplay as well. It’s basically like the Boost + Homing Attack but with perhaps more skill and finesse. And like the Boost games, the whole of the gameplay is only subsidiary compared to that except for platforming where you can use the backflip and the sword slash but can’t exactly go faster due to the large gaps unless you have the Soul Surge or Jump Dash.
I don't care what anyone says, Sonic and the Black Knight is definitely top 3 of my Sonic games, first is Colors and second is Generations. It was honestly thanks to Black Knight that caused me to fall in love with the King Arthur storyline. So it was like, adding an amazing character to an amazing universe.
That’s pretty much my big thing. I do think the use of the Wii motion controls hampered the game in a number of ways since you can’t really be all that precise with it. Plus the game could stand to have a combo system instead of “swinging your sword”.
@@Neo232100 It does have a combo system, though. There's about a dozen different attacks that all string into each other based on how you hold the stick or move as you swing.
Yeah this game was hurt really bad by the motion controls same for the Secret Rings. Both are great games but suffered due to the choice of console. It had a good combat system but the Wii was not a good choice for them to be released on.
@@Zeromaru42 Wouldnt say motion controls hurt Secret Rings, if anything it helped it thanks to the degree of precision possible in left/right turning. The games wouldnt have been the same without the Wii's limitations both for better and worse
I am disappointed in this review and that was due to the fact that I OWN THIS GAME ON THE Wii and I had fun with it both story and gameplay wise. It was tough, but at least it had some twist to what the previous game had.
I feel like the weapon crafting for knuckles shadow and blaze is at least worth a mention, since its fairly well implemented and unlocks new abilities for them. For instance, turning shadows super into chaos control is very satisfying, and I will always have fond memories of this game.
I don't believe there's anything wrong with putting Sonic in these somewhat bizarre settings with new tools at his disposal, as long as it's done well. Personally, I think this game is decently fun it has a pretty compelling and thoughtful story with what might be the best portrayal of Sonic. It's not quite Adventure or early boost levels of fun or high quality, but it's still far from bad.
"Lost footnote." Lost footnote? LOST FOOTNOTE?! Good sir, that is a statement most false! There are FAR worse sonic games out there that deserve such a title!
He's a mainstream "game reviewer" nerd (better now, my easily triggered lovelies ?). Do you honestly expect someone like him to delve deeper and look at the merits ?
Sorry but... were you paying attention this playthrough? Merlina generic? Did you see the latter half of the story? No comment on Sonic's characterization here...? Typical Sonic story with a medieval coat of paint? Boring settings?? You literally said that AS a giant was dragging a seige engine. How did the game lazily put together the two? The KotRT are 3 in the main story, and honestly that keeps it focused. A fuckton of them would have been bad for the game. Did you not see the lesson Sonic gave them, or when Knuckles tried to kill himself lol? And not even touching on the most meaningful message delivered in the entire series, Sonic's speech and motive at the end of the game which explains who he is as well. I'm sorry but this review is poor and I really get the feel that you did this as fast as possible while not paying attention and never moving on from the fact that they gave the talking blue hedgehog a talking sword.
I'd love to see the Storybook games come back. The story and themes of the games were not bad, and they were something different! Just the controls for me were.. my god
Considering the story writer, Shiro Maekawa (also wrote SA2, Heroes, Secret Rings, part of 06 and Zero Gravity), has left SEGA years ago, it's not gonna happen soon. However, the irony is, most of the devs who worked on this game also worked on Lost World and partly Forces. Let that sink in.
@@DanieleMulas-up7np The lead game designer for both Storybook games would end up being the director for those two mentioned and Colors, all three of which I will fully argue are worse than the Storybook duo
Actually, I don't even feel like the controls were bad at all. I think the Wii controls in general were inconsistent depending on a variety of factors, including how the gamer holds the wiimote. I never struggled with the controls for this series of games.
@@youmeltube Yeah, Morio Kishimoto is a horrible game director. And the lead level designer of Lost World and Forces (whose name escapes me now) also worked on Secret Rings. Considering all three tend to have on-rail running on straight lines sections, I can totally tell how talented this guy is.
I feel like the rating given at the end didn't really match the factoids covered within the review. In Jirard's own words, he felt like playing through the main story was a worthwhile exprience, and that, while a lot of issues from Secret Rings carried forth, it was still an overall improvement. I don't feel like the abundance of optional busywork for completion should drag it all the way down to "Look At It" when the problems otherwise were not glaringly bad by the reviewer's own account. Also, the footage being shown while he complained about bland visuals didn't seem particularly nondistinct to me.
He does this a lot honestly. And it is sadly Sonic games where he contradicts himself. Honestly, every 3d Sonic game he reviewed, despite the clips he shows that says other wise. He always says the opposite. In a way it feels like he just hating on 3d Sonic games, cause if he doesn't. It won't please those who think like that also. I can't recall a single 3d Sonic game he gave a fair review.
I've been looking around at the general consensus for this game. There seems to 2 opinions: - this game is actually pretty decent, good even for what it is. Much better than Secret Ring - Sonic with Swords lol bad. Secret Ring 2.0. This video's premise says this exact same thing for minutes. Not having experienced any of these games, this second opinion seems so strange. The concept is perfectly functional for the character, and even simply the context seems like a perfect fold for Sonic. It's almost like there is a visceral hatred for anything that isn't Mania for 2D and Generation/Adventure for 3D, and yet the diversification for the brand is often put forward as a good idea. It truly is so strange
It would be cool to see this idea of Sonic going to fictional worlds come back. Sonic and the Seven Deadly Sins maybe? (Or is that just Lost World...) The Good, The Bad, and The Sonic?
Wigglytuff Sonic “fans” : We need something new, something fresh Sonic team: Oh no problem “Fandom”: Why are you trying something new we should go back to the classic style Sonic team: sonic rush “Fandom”: we need the adventure style Good part of the fandom and sonic team: WHAT DO YOU WANT?!
I love pretty much everything about the Storybook games, except for the motion controls. I would love to see remakes using either the normal Adventure/Boost mechanics, or even just hand it off to someone like Platinum Games or Nihon Falcom to make them into full out Action RPGs. Hell, imagine a sequel with Sonic in mythological Feudal Japan made by the folk behind Okami. I dunno, maybe Lyric could be Orochi.
Personally, I think this game was pretty good. Not as good as other sonic games but good enough that I would want to come back and play more. If you know how to play the game right, it is really fun and fast paced, especially if you abuse the buzzsaw attack.
I love this game. The final truly great Sonic game, and at the end of his best era. That's my honest, unironic opinion. Tho I notice youre not using the homing attack and slash at the same time. It barrels through rows of enemies.
No offense to anybody, but this one is my favorite Sonic title. Like, out of all of them. I'd play it over Colors any day. You had some points, though, it is short and the world could have been more expanded upon.
Good video Jirard. Black Knight is....yeah weird. Also side note the name Caliburn is actually taken from Arthurian Legend; pretty sure it’s the sword Arthur pulled from the stone, matching up to Caliburn’s role in this game.
Yes. Caliburn and Excalibur were originally two legends about the same sword that King Arthur optained to claim the throne. Modern tellings choose to put it in a timeline where there is an original sword called Caliburn that is pulled from the stone, but is later lost and that is why the lady of the lake later grants Arthur the replacement called Excalibur. This is kinda sorta adapted here, with to the sword breaking before upgrading with the help of the lady.
This game was fun and had sooo much replayability. And if you learned the controls and combos the game became pretty unique. It's actually one of my favorites at the time for being so different but also fun to return to. It also helped you could replay with other characters and learn their combos as well.
Isn't it funny that I, as a 9 year old when this game out, was able to precisely control both Black Knight and Secret Rings better than a full grown adult? Hell, I'm still able to control it well.
White-Van Helsing I played through the game for the first time last month and I controlled it almost perfectly. He has no excuse. This whole review is just “Sonic bad”
I really like this game. I completed it back and high school and loved it. I also think the story is really nice, fun and sincere a perfect balance of serious and silly. Sonic’s characterization is perfect, his voice and personality is at its best truly feeling like “just a guy that loves adventure” doing good where he sees he can. The soundtrack is fire and the game just oozes personality and style. I’m really sad we didn’t get more of these story book games. Sonic falling asleep while reading a classic books and dreaming about it has so much potential. Like just imagine Sonic in Wonderland or Treasure Island or Hunchback of Notre Dame or A Wrinkle in Time or Narnia: literally endless! Think of the level concepts That would be amazing!
Gosh dang, every time I get a Completionist video recommended to me, the intro is different, and looks even more high quality-- I freakin love your intros, my dude. Keep up the good work!

Ever heard of "Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight"? I did it with that one.
Fun fact: Caliburn was the original name of Excalibur in the old texts of Aurthorian legend.
Funner fact: Arthurian legend is basically an extended list of fanfiction. Lancelot was a fanfic character made to cuck Arthur.

It's not that bad. I kinda wish Sega could just remake this and Secret Rings. I think if they had made an adventure game for both of them, they could've been fun games that are replayable.
I think that's because a lot of the kids who grew up playing these games (Like us) are being more vocal about it.

Sonic's sword being Caliburn does make sense for a King Arthur story: Caliburn is another name for the sword most people recognize as "Excalibur."

It just felt really off, since I usually enjoy his reviews of games in the past.
honestly, I liked this game enough that I wouldn't mind if Sonic Team would try to revisit this concept, maybe using the Adventure formula as a base instead of the Auto-runner Boost Formula hybrid they used
Agreed
Props for using Caliburn, the sword in the stone, rather than Excalibur...since Arthur had two special swords that were totally different.
I think the idea of a sword being wielded by sonic is a cool thing, but there has to be a good execution for that ability.
I actually liked this game last time I played it...
Same, though it's admittedly been a long time.
This was the first game i saw about Sonic.....and i love it even today.
@@jasonnguyen1072 Agree to disagree.
Once you get Lancelot’s final weapon, the game becomes so much easier

It was honestly thanks to Black Knight that caused me to fall in love with the King Arthur storyline. So it was like, adding an amazing character to an amazing universe.
Honestly I really loved this game, i just wish that the mechanics were a bit more polished
When you have an addiction to completing games: "I have a problem, but a fun problem."
I feel like the weapon crafting for knuckles shadow and blaze is at least worth a mention, since its fairly well implemented and unlocks new abilities for them.
For instance, turning shadows super into chaos control is very satisfying, and I will always have fond memories of this game.
WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT THIS GAME WAS GREAT (I’m the one guy I guess)
AGREEDD
I liked this game as well
I like this game too. It's my favorite Sonic game on the Wii.
There are at least 5 of us! I loved this game!
Favourite 3D Sonic
Daniele Mulas damn dude chill the hell out
@@rtycoffee5288 I am chill. Why are you getting so worked up over the truth ?
“He’s a mainstream fatass nerd” - someone chill apparently
Im saying chill out no need to be a douche if someone doesn’t like a game as much as you do
People remember good games, people remember bad games.
Sonic and the Black Knight was neither.
I like how people think this is a main series game.
The storybook games are pretty clearly spin offs.
They are still a part of canon though
I agree. I like Jirard, but I feel like he did this game injustice.
The idea was good, the execution. Dear god the execution
I actualy remember liking this game quite a bit. Combination of sonic and the knights of the round table was so cool to me.
not just to you
This game was cool
will marsden, the CONCEPT is cool. But in Sonic Team fashion they executed kinda poorly. Especially when you read the Arthurian legends for yourself.
This is my favorite Sonic game.
I'm not joking.
Probably in my Top 10 Sonic games, for me.
I applaud you for having an opinion because half of these comments never touched the game and say it's bad because a UA-camr says so
It's a favorite of mine too, glad I'm not the only one
@@TheDrummer1234321 Preach. Sick as hell of bandwagoning sheep mentality.
I love the game
There seems to 2 opinions:
- this game is actually pretty decent, good even for what it is. Much better than Secret Ring
- Sonic with Swords lol bad.
Caliburn actually turns into excalibur in the tales of king arthur
Fastest click in the west. This game was my childhood!
It would be cool to see this idea of Sonic going to fictional worlds come back.
Sonic and the Seven Deadly Sins maybe? (Or is that just Lost World...)
The Good, The Bad, and The Sonic?
Oh boy, another “Sonic is bad because it’s different from the other games” review
Stupid, right?

Sonic “fans” : We need something new, something fresh
Sonic team: Oh no problem
“Fandom”: Why are you trying something new we should go back to the classic style
Sonic team: sonic rush
“Fandom”: we need the adventure style
Good part of the fandom and sonic team: WHAT DO YOU WANT?!
@@BigSmoke-xh5hi nobody knows what they want him to be.

Sonic and the Black Knight is the most underrated Sonic game of all time.
I remember playing this game a lot with a friend an loving it. We talked recently about replaying it because we found it so cool.
Jazwares was obsessed with this particular series for some reason.
To this day they're some of the best Sonic figurines though.
This was my favorite wii game as a child i could beat the final boss in under 30 seconds i have no clue how but the record is there
No offense to anybody, but this one is my favorite Sonic title. Like, out of all of them. I'd play it over Colors any day. You had some points, though, it is short and the world could have been more expanded upon.

Sonic and the Black Knight was my favorite 3D Sonic game as a child.
No matter how old we get, we can all agree that sword will always be cool.

I had the same feeling while watching this video
He really is bad at controlling this game and I got it right as a 13 year old boy
Same bud. Same. And I LOVED IT
Same lol
White-Van Helsing I played through the game for the first time last month and I controlled it almost perfectly. He has no excuse. This whole review is just “Sonic bad”
"They don't do each other any favors like Putting Ice Cream on Pizza"

I actually enjoyed this game alot
Same , fully acknowledged its shit , but tell that to 12 year old me
I will agree that the control scheme does need an overhaul. Still like this game though.
This game has a lot of problems in the gameplay department, but I really like its story. Merlina is best girl and honestly a great character.
They should bring back the sonic story book series. Imagine a Peter Pan style game with sonic around against pirates. Could be good 😕
That'd be interesting.
Honestly the idea of what the 3rd Storybook game could've been about keeps me up at *knight*
Gosh dang, every time I get a Completionist video recommended to me, the intro is different, and looks even more high quality-- I freakin love your intros, my dude. Keep up the good work!
