They should have stopped the race, that horse would be stressed enough without the others keep thundering past it ,stupid.

Harold Park has now been closed for a few years. It was a small track, and I have witnessed many nasty accidents, especially on those tight turns. We now race on a 1400m track located at Menangle Park. The world famous Harold Park was the place to be on a Friday night.

The only issue was the running rail

Do the horseman in NZ and AU use headphones yet? That accident was caused because the guy could not steer the horse. Those belts don't keep their heads straight. That's just dangerous. Edit: see the horses head in replay at 4:35? That horses head was turned 90 degrees around. That would never happen with a headpole.

Dang, that was some riding from the wrangler there - what he did was not easy and actually quite dangerous.

Good to see harness racing in Sydney evolve from this inner city saucer track to lead the world in terms of horse safety and welfare,at its ultra modern, safe 1400 mtr track at Menangle.Kudos Sydney.

1st time I've seen this, I'd say driver error, that horse went into the bend with his head pulled to the outside, which made him break to canter, new rules in racing these days, if a horse is down on the racing line and not sure, or no room to go round race is stopped and declared no contest

Well, I'm mighty glad to hear that!! I thought it was disgusting that the other racers just kept going with no regard what so ever to their fellow racers, or the horses. Now if we could just get them to ban the whips life would so much better. Especially for the horses!

Can't believe they had running rails back in the day

  • @Jbmc65

What a dangerous place to race, have they got rid of the hubrails over there yet? And the tracks are small, to many horses in races, one goes down most of them go down. Not to mention anything about the belt around the neck, you wanna steer them put a dam headpole on them. That accident was caused by the lack of being able to steer them. Think about it, you turn the horses head right sideways what is the chance of them tripping, well watching this I gotta say really good.

Sorry, but you are an Idiot who has no idea. I owned three Harness horses who raced at this track Harold park, and all three horses had a great life both during their racing career and extending right through to the many years they had in retirement free roaming in their paddock. When they were racing they had the best feed, daily grooming, training, swimming, showers and rub down, and where they adored their handlers. They are athletes who loved their training, so even after they retired from racing, for years later they would still rush the gate hoping to be geared up again, and where regularly we would grant their wish by gearing them up to let them bowl around at their own pace for a few laps on the training track

This seems like to many horses on such a small track. Here in Canada we have mostly half mile and the "A" tracks are a mile. Most entries on a half mile is 8 and on a mile track is 10. We hardly ever see any accidents like this one.

Unless all horses/drivers are involved in the race, horse racing accidents never stop a horse race.

+KoolredfoxPlays in Canada the are considered no contests so that drivers don't try to continue with a horse that might be hurt or with broken equipment.
