To touch on your "margin" difference, although you felt the 1 second off your short segment was nothing much, you need to have a level playing field, and the best way to compare is by percentage change.
Short Segment, you had a 4% improvement
Medium Segment, you had a 10.6% improvement
Long Segment, you had a 4.7% improvement
It looks like your best improvement was in the medium segment, but you had the same progress with your short and long segments. Kudos!!
Thanks David, spot on! Yeah without looking at it like that you can't really tell. Actually surprising when you put it in percentage terms. Crazy improvement on the medium segment. Have you done yours yet?
@@alexreader I just finished #6 and will do the baseline tomorrow morning. 🤞to improve on my timing: short = 24s medium = 2m and long = 9m40s
@@alexreader I completed the Finish Line this morning and forgot how challenging it was!
Short = 23s (4.17% improvement)
Medium = 1m49s (9.17% improvement)
Long = 9m22s (3.10% improvement)
I only wish I knew my avg watts and w/kg for the Volcano KOM; I felt I could have done better. Also, I should have looked at Strava with Sauce for Strava.
@@davidcorrado2366 aha I thought the exact same thing. Think I blocked out how hard it was after the baseline ride. Awesome numbers 👏 interesting that we have a similar outcome in percentage improvement 👌 pretty cool to know

Sunday 8th - 18.00 UK 🇬🇧 time
Still sleeping in eastern USA... wish you all the best and beat my prediction time !! haha. Will check your vid out when I wake up for sure!
Change of plan 🤦🏽♂️ I'm going to be doing it tomorrow Sunday 8th at 18.00 UK 🇬🇧 time. Apologies!!!!!
Great videos Alex, i completed this earlier this week with times as follows Sprint attempt 1 27 sec, attempt 2 27 sec i messed this up again as was not taking enough notice where the start line was again, medium attempt 1 -2m.04s attempt 2 - 1m.53s, and finally long attempt 1 - 8m:55s attempt - 2 8m.32s. Happy with the improvements.
Thanks Paul! :D really good improvements. Big improvement on that middle sections, which is interesting seems to be where a lot of people have progressed most. I'm not sure if you watched my baseline ride but I also messed up the sprint in the same way. Unlike the other segments you don't really see the arch coming so much ha. What was your rider type? Looks like you are suited to the longer efforts!
@@alexreader time trialist, I was going to have another crack but 2 group rides I done the last 2 days have been the same route so I don’t want to see that climb again for a bit, I did get my sprint down to 22s but did have others to draft.
@@paulwilliams3919 makes sense. Don't blame you it's pretty tough. That's a far difference, reckon the power was higher too?
Congrats mate, I am looking to do these tomorrow so I'll let you know how it goes...
You have done pretty well and pacing is as good as it could get. When i checked the video you seems to do workout back to back the next day which is also not optimal. I am pretty sure with a proper rest and recovery and know the course you can get another 1-2% off the segment time (that is huge!) For sprint you might need around 5s of initial push as well to get up to speed. Blob up might be a little trick too... haha
Ha better than last time! Cheers mate. Yea definitely, could properly taper for it and squeeze a bit more out. Have you done it yet?
@@alexreader i did yesterday. Monday completely off. I work out of town and decide to do finish line ride yesterday before work trip. Do workout 6 when i come back. Probably try a sprint segment again. My prediction of your time would be 1:38m, 23.0s , 8:35m (assume very fresh mind and legs). let see if you can beat this in the livestream!
Hi Alex. Thanks for your advices - really useful 👍. I can't join this time with you this weekend but if you organise future meet up then it could be nice to ride together.
One tip I found helpful for the Baseline ride was going into Strava and looking up my PRs on each segment. Then I put a note on the bike I could see it when I was riding, that had my PR time, average watts and max watts for each segment. Then all I had to do was stay at or above the average wattage for each segment. Preferably above. I'll be doing my Finish Line ride this weekend and I expect to improve quite a bit.
Yeah that's a great tip!! I did plan to do that beforehand but never got round to it so il picked out some targeted in the un timed sections. Awesome, have you signed up for an event or doing it from the workout folder?
@@alexreader All of my rides have been in groups, but I've missed #5 so I'm doing that this afternoon solo.
Alex, great job! A quick sprinting team I learned from a YT vid. Hopefully I can find the link for you, but the main thing was sprinting in the drops instead of on the hoods of your bars. It’s amazing the difference and how many more watts you can squeeze out. Give it a try👍
Hi I'm very interested in Saturday evening ;) to join it live
@@alexreader I have just done the baseline and 3 workout so far , today I'm attacking number 4 and tomorrow 5 and 6 ;). So I can join the finish ride on Saturday evening;)
Letsgooo done with Zwift Academy myself as well, PR’s on all segments! Baseline ride was my 3rd ride on Zwift ever so I knew there was some progress possible haha💪
Wooo yeah buddy 👏 thats awesome it was your 3rd ever zwift ride. What set up have you got? Nice work 💪
@@alexreader wahoo kickr that my dad uses as well!
@@moonie3088 love it. Set it up each time?
