How everyone has a separate part individually but altogether makes a more united piece.... It deserved a second season but I can see why it got cut. Production costs were high given the costs of creating all the puppets and sets as well as digital modelling and it wasn’t that mainstream unlike a lot of other Netflix shows
I don't know if I was more heartbroken by the beauty of the singing, the nice music, the beauties of the characters, accepting the loss of a parent or Hup quietly resigning himself to watching Deet and Rian falling in love.
The way Rian looks at Deet with such complete admiration is so heart melting. The way Hup looked at both of them looking at each other; on the other hand, is truly heart breaking because he cares deeply for Deet as well
The really cool thing about this scene is that the gelflings from different tribes are singing. Really watching from the beginning of the series and how the division is there between the tribes..this can be considered significant. Also, Hup..not a gelfling, but his underscore harmonies with everyone else is like the glue tying the whole song together as a whole. Just perfect.
That's the one thing that always fascinated me about the Dark Crystal. Everything is connected in Thra; all the good, all the bad, all the neutral. Hell, the Crystals justice even has an underlined importance on balance and the interconnectedness in life; splitting the Urskeks into the Mystics and Skeksis to deny them full transcendence and the ability to be whole. The one thing I took away from this is that a single Podling, not of the Gelfling races was able to sing the dirge; a song sung in native Gelfling, and his own melody shared some of the same words. It blew my mind, to think that not only Gelfling but all sentient races could know this song, and sing it in honor of the All-Maudra; one of few sentient creatures for whom all life could mourn the loss. I am but a mere Wittan, who grew up watching this as a kid. Now, this is what I call folk music. 😎
I feel so sorry for Brea in this scene. She lost her mother, her sister shouted right in her face that she’s no sister to her, And she didn’t even get to give her mother a proper burial. She’s been through so much and you can just hear her sadness and her loss in her voice.
Even though we know they’re puppets, after a while watching keeping your eyes on the screen, you forget they’re puppets & your mind goes into that trance like they’re real.

The puppeteers did their job a little too well and that adds to the magic of the series!! Where else can you watch puppets and forget that they are just puppets??
My guess is it's cheaper to have it as an instrumental as they might have to pay royalties or something to the actors if they appeared on the album. Shame though...
I love when Rian and Deet lock eyes and the harmonic layers of voices suddenly decreases because they’re too entranced by each other to continue singing. 😍 The look on Rian’s face is full of so much passion. I can’t believe he is a puppet!
This scene shows so much beauty, but also sadness, and makes me love the Gelflings even more. Small my size and giant by courage, they're among the best creatures of all fantasy history. I feel so bad for Brea, I want to give her a hug to comfort her :(

I have to say that I think that Rian has the most beautiful voice of the bunch. Theres just this richness and power behind it and it gives me chills every time. Hope we get to hear him sing again in the second season. Though, just this scene is bloody amazing. It seems as though the group have been around eachother long enough to the point of being able to read the others to feel the emotion from the others and Thra therefore know the words to the song. Aaaaaand I may or may not have been listening to this on loop XD
I know that this show was very time-consuming and expensive to make... and I know we essentially all know the ending and it isn't a happy one for these characters... but gosh darn it, Age of Resistance deserved at least another season. It was such a stunning piece of art with so much personality and clearly a lot of love poured into it.
I love how all of them know the same song, even Hup who is not gelfling, and Deet who has never known anything about the outworld. It show how Thra connects everyone despite their differences.
The amount of Shivers I get with this series is incredible. So much magic and love took part in its creation, Netflix is always cancelling their most mind opening shows like this one or the OA for example.

If the Gelflings came to earth and competed in sports like the Olympics I am curious to know who you other fans think who would compete in which event?? I think Kylan would compete in diving and swimming. Brea would compete in gymnastics. Gurjin would compete in things for strength like the hammer throw and shot put and maybe the javelin. Rian would probably be good at track. And Deet would probably be good at the balance beam. Naia could be just like her twin but I also think she would be good at the tumbling and flips. I really want to know what you guys think!

I would imagine something like this: Rian holds Deet after she's healed from the darkening and a Mystic tells him "Hold her close. She is part of you as we all are." The shows' had other parallels with the movie.

It’s a wonderful scene with great puppetry and music! It makes me feel sad and heart melting 😢 But what’s disappointing is that in the soundtrack we don’t have the lyrics and that’s the best part of the song

Man when Hup realised why Deet and Rian were looking at each other that way, I felt that one. Watching the person you love look at someone else the way you wish they would look at you hurts bad.

I both love the idea that each clan has their own version of the song, AND the idea that the song is one consistent which has remained between All of Thra. That perhaps there's some significance in each individual harmony. That each of them KNOW how the song goes, and the many ways it can be sung. Can you imagine the dozens, HUNDREDS of voices rising up together in mourning, in each clan? I know this show is over, but GOSH I hope the story continues.✨
MsUltraBob Hup developed one-sided feelings which were sadly not returned, but remained Deet’s friend even if he had trouble warming up to Rian. He wasn’t about to girlfriendzone Deet.
It's significant how this group is made of gelfling/podling from different groups, and even though each clan tend to separate themselves from others, this particular song is known by everyone. Even Deet knows it, though Grottan never come above ground. It's almost like this song was sung back when everyone wasn't divided, and it's this song that brings gelfling from different clans together.
Gosh, the first time I heard this melody I got chills and started tearing up! It just brings out the feelings so well and you feel like you are with them sitting by that fire during the ceremony. This even makes me curious if I can learn their language...

It's really so sad and tragic what's happened to her, and also to Rian. They're been through a lot. Brea is definitely a favorite.
Her sister burns the body of their mother to stop it returning to Thra.
I'd like to think in a way the song helped her essence return to Thra anyway.

I would imagine something like this: Rian holds Deet after she's healed from the darkening and a Mystic tells him "Hold her close. She is part of you as we all are." The shows' had other parallels with the movie.

this song in the whole series is one of my favorites, its calming and has a good melody to it by the gelfling and podling. It all fits.
Man when Hup realised why Deet and Rian were looking at each other that way, I felt that one. Watching the person you love look at someone else the way you wish they would look at you hurts bad.
I've been obsessed with the music from the series. Dark crystal has always been one of my favorites but this show has made it into a whole new level.

I both love the idea that each clan has their own version of the song, AND the idea that the song is one consistent which has remained between All of Thra. That perhaps there's some significance in each individual harmony. That each of them KNOW how the song goes, and the many ways it can be sung. Can you imagine the dozens, HUNDREDS of voices rising up together in mourning, in each clan?
I know this show is over, but GOSH I hope the story continues.✨

It's significant how this group is made of gelfling/podling from different groups, and even though each clan tend to separate themselves from others, this particular song is known by everyone. Even Deet knows it, though Grottan never come above ground. It's almost like this song was sung back when everyone wasn't divided, and it's this song that brings gelfling from different clans together.
Gosh, the first time I heard this melody I got chills and started tearing up! It just brings out the feelings so well and you feel like you are with them sitting by that fire during the ceremony. This even makes me curious if I can learn their language...
