Imagine what could've been. The boys just running onto the stage and hearing the beatlemania like screaming once again after nearly 20 years. A reunion of The Beatles would've been so amazing. It was rare seeing John live in the 70s and they really were just different people doing different things at that point. Well atleast we had Paul there. Wouldve been nice to see George and Ringo too.
Nobody had a bigger PAIR that day!!! That took STONES, A BRASS PAIR. You see that 100K sized Crowd. To sing that, all by yourself, one song on that day. OMG! Where is the courage and confidence in 2021. Answer: NO WHERE
Everybody knew that The Beatles should have been there , that's why some artists did Beatles songs here and there on Live Aid , that was going to be the moment 😭😭😭 R.I.P John Lennon.
Agree. And he played a blinder that day. They'd hugely miscalculated the time it took to get each band's gear on and off stage between each set, so they were desperate for anyone who was prepared to go and stand in front of the world with just himself and a guitar. Only one would.
My introduction to The Beatles, no better version of this immortal song exists, and then McCartney blew my mind my already blown mind later with Let it Be.
@@adamstockman5278 not really. I m not talking about influence, am talking about musical skills and Led zeppelin, the Who,cream, rush, Queen, Pink Floyd Genesis, just to name a few, were better talented musicians.
Elephant juice it should be ur Woodstock. All of these musicians worked really hard to save a drought stricken Ethiopia. God love ♥️🎼🐾and bless them all.
I think Elvis Costello has done the best cover version of a Beatles song ever I really love it because he did a live cover of it Maybe I’m Amazed or I could be happy about it
The story goes that they'd massively miscalculated the time needed to get everyone's gear on and off stage between acts. So they were desperate for anyone who would go on completely solo in front of 1.5 billion people. And Elvis did - credit to him.
Like the Marvel series , What if..... What if John Lennon was still Alive at this concert ???? The Beatles would reunite and bang the live aid and would be the most Legendary thing in the industry of music
Not at all, he's immensely popular in the UK, particularly late 70's to 90's. He made around 50 albums and has awards and accolades coming out his ears. Hall of Fame 2003.
Does anyone else remember this live performance, and would I be right in saying that part of the full spoken introduction by Elvis Costello has been edited out? I was only 10 when I watched this live on TV, but I seem to recall that Costello made some remark about the lyrics of the song, along the lines of 'If the lyrics were perhaps a bit naive when Lennon wrote them, then they're downright fucking tragic now...' or did someone else say that?
I'm reading his Autobiography now. He said that the writing was the first couple words of each verse so he didn't forget it. He's also alone with just a guitar and mic because Geldof asked just for him to play while they set up the stage for the next performance.
I'm not gonna question the enlightened over this matter. Just loved what he done. I don't know many musicians from Merseyside that don't know those words to that song. Must be hard strumming whilst reading. Hats off if that's the case.
From what I can remember, didn't Elvis have some technical issues that prevented him from playing a full set with the band? What an awesome response though 🙂
Its always great when an audience recognizes an unannounced Beatles song and starts cheering after the first line, then sings along.
You are absolutely right. It is fun to watch.
💜💖💝💗🖤
You're such a lovely audience, we'd love to take you home with us, we'd love to take you home.
Corect 👍☯️😘 jon 😃😃😃😃😃
Hello from Liverpool
With virtually the whole planet watching, he stands alone on a stage and sings the truth. Unbelievable.
Outstanding!
"You pointed us to the truth when you said 'All you need is love.' "
- George Harrison in the song "All those years ago."
IKR! Could of at least done a dance song 👎🏿
Three chords and the truth
One of the great comments ever
I love this unique Elvis Costello
Anyone agree??
Costello is sadly overlooked. My fav British songwriter.
@@zackzallie8735 His is My favorite songwriter.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This performance of Elvis Costello gets to the point.
The point has been lost on this waste of time youth now. They'll never know how easy it was to be relaxed and just listen.
I forgot what an anazing moment this was. And Costello has one of ny favorite Beatles performance ever!
Great of him to sing this song, over any number of his own.
it's sentiment was perfectly on point for the event.
I don't imagine there are too many people who love the Beatles more than Elvis Costello.
Class act.

Didn't really need them to be there...let the new people take over
that would’ve been amazing.

The greatest Beatles cover ever. Ever
EC’s version of Penny Lane at the White House is pretty great as well
If you listenvery closely, you can hear part of the audience sing the horns fill at 0:43. That's how you know a song is absolutely iconic
I don't know why, but every time I put this on, I shed a tear for what was and what will never be again.
I really love this performance! It’s outstanding ❤

R.I.P John Lennon.
Smash Runner What about George bruh
@@leonmackenzie1997 yes , sorry R.I.P Mr George Harrison too.
@@leonmackenzie1997 But George Harrison died in 2001. Meanwhile live aid was in 1985. So....
They would have never done it
Paul was there
Elvis has a brilliant voice. Massively underrated, although he did sell a few records!
Not underrated to me, I think the man is a music genius in all that entails..
crap performance, crappy voice timbre worse than even Dylan
When history books are elvis will be recognised as the greatest singer songwriter performer of all time

Unfortunately he was the only that could do that, and still can in 2021
One man, his guitar, & an important message
I love costello
This is excellent,he had the crowd in his hands 👏👏 it's as if John Lennon was there in spirit 😢👍
Personally I'd rather have Elvis, McCartney WAS there.
One of the absolute highlights from this massive gig.
My introduction to The Beatles, no better version of this immortal song exists, and then McCartney blew my mind my already blown mind later with Let it Be.
Who could not be a Beatles' fan? The greatest band of all time!
One of the Greatest.
I can type at least 20 bands that are better than the Beatles.

I remember Live-Aid day vividly and this was a real highlight for me.
So spot on to use this song. Only a moron would not understand that it incapsulates the most important ingredient for a better world.
This guy’s got it together nicely and without fuss
SUPER GREAT ‼️‼️👊🔥🥂
As a 44 year old, Live Aid is my Woodstock +++

@@mickfunny4185 on top of that there was Woodstock '99
As a 47 year old I can say Tibetan Freedom Concert was much better. To each their own.
A classic Beatles song, if only the Fab four could all have been at Live Aid.
just watched this after hearing him narrate his great autobiography. class
Wow, I love Elvis more every day! Simply amazing.
This is one of my favourites from Live Aid.
In a parallel universe somewhere, John, Paul, George and Ringo probably reunite on that same day and perform the song. Imma go cry now :(
one of the coolest voices ever
My favorite voice in the world since 1985.❤
I think Elvis Costello has done the best cover version of a Beatles song ever I really love it because he did a live cover of it Maybe I’m Amazed or I could be happy about it
A M A Z I N G
He need not ask that gigantic audience to hum about THE BEATLES classic: "tapararara" 02:56
Aren't they saying "All together now"?
Vic Barrett the second time they do it doesn’t sound like saying “Everybody” so I guess there were humming the instrumental section.
Amid some 1984 Attractions shows, Elvis for the first time toured solo 1984-85 - closing with this performance.
Not surprised that the crowd knew the lyrics. Nice performance
Some songs are that powerful someone can come out with a guitar and just sing it off the cuff like he did...:)
and to stand in front of 100K people and give a great performance
Never have seen this!!awesome.
A great song from a great singer.
Thank you ❤️

Best performance of live aid. Alone. On the stage. Outstanding!
I agree with your opinion.
No that was Queen.
@@jamesrobert680 ahahahahahah funny. Queen sucks.
@@TheRealTrueFabio no they’re amazing, Mercury had every member of the audience eating out of the palm of his hand.

One could imagine John singing this song at Live Aid with Paul, George and Ringo
Handhelded cameras with cable carriers. Cables lying around everywhere on stage. Hard to imagine today. 😅
Elvis Costello, The Who, and Paul McCartney...didn't need anyone else that day...

ELVIS COSTELLO IS THE MAN.
And for a few precious hours that day I really believed it.
When it was the day of live eight gig I saw Elvis Costello did a gig At Kenwood house in London saw live eight gig hours later on BBC three in 2005
