Love you work! Way to go! My mark on crank shaft point on North not to 40 but about 60 if it was marked. It seemed to be caused by broken belt harmonic balancer pulley and pushed the crank shaft seal into the timing chain on crank shaft. I did not expected any issues on that event, but the rattling sound and low engine power started exactly after that event. Could you confirm my assessment and advice on course of actions to resolve it. Thank you.
WOW you should be a teacher your so awesome !!! I wish I had you as a friend to help me do this. I have in my day taken engine out old school back when I was young and engines had no computers ... Now this aluminum engines and computers scares me to death . I watched both your videos and I am so Impressed . I own a Chrysler Crossfire with this same engine . I think I will have to get help or really get comfortable with this . I was at a junkyard today and they told me they would sell me a old Mercedes 3.2 for $150 but I would have to buy an engine stand and have a covered spot to do the work and since Im not as flexible at age 60 . But you should become a teacher your have great patience you also have a calm kind voice. I seen your other video and your car runs like new how is it now years later ??. Can I ask what you paid for all parts and a list of all thing you used and where you got them . And how many videos did you watch to do this project ?? Thank you
Good video. I am in the process of getting my chain cover off right now. All the bolts are out, but the cover doesn't want to move, but I will keep at it. I would like to point out the oil pump drive chain, which some people may not think about when they hear a worn chain noise, while you have the lower oil pan and the timing chain off, its a good idea to replace the pump chain as well. Love your dog by the way..
Hello Tarek, while you were diagnosing your issue, have you noticed if the noise was stronger with the oil filler cap removed? I'm not sure I have this problem, because in my case, it changes nothing. I'm thinking about the oil pump (for a CLK55 W209)
Very nice job, that is impressive. Actually I am just trying to replace the timing chain tensioner, and it is difficult to screw it in. How should it be done probably? I tried doing it with installing in the old tensioner - I lifted the guide rail while installing, and screwed it in much as I could. However after starting the car it was leaking oil from the tensioner. I just now ordered new tensioner. Any help or advice so I can do it properly? I got the 112 v6 w203. Thanks!
hello friend congratulations for your excellent work I just want to know what kind of tools I need to take for example the packing head and the cam shaft thank you very much ....
Hi I'm currently working on my 2002 clk55 amg, M113. I aligned the timing marks and replaced the timing chain (did no crimp the chain link as yet no tools).I also purchased the chain guide rails but decided not to replace them. (Did not want to pull the Cylinder heads). However I was able to remove and replace the guide rail that the tensioner rides on only, it can be pryed off without any damage. Now I'm ready to install the timing case and realize the upper oil pan will need to be lowered. I don't want to hoist the engine to remove the oil pan, but worried if after breaking the oil pan seal maybe it might leak after reassemble . When I unbolt the upper oil pan I'll try to run a bead of sealant along the gap between the upper pan and engine block. Ps. Change the 2 water pump O rings on the inner side of the timing case. And for another $100 the water pump and gasket also. Crankshaft seal also. I replaced my crankshaft pulley/harmonic Balancer too, it was separating. Also valve cover gaskets. And it's a good idea to keep all bolts with components when removing. (Many different lengths)
How hard to install timing cover?? Because silicone every where specially bottom timing case seat on top of upper oil pan, can you give me some ideal.Thank you in advance
Ok so . Yes you can change the chain without doing everything he did . You break the original chain and use a masterlink to roll the new chain in by turning the crankshaft. There are videos on it.
I cannot believe all of the work and time you spent to save $60 on the right tool for the harmonic balancer. Being cheap and owning a Mercedes do not mix. Here is some free advice to help you. Put a big breaker bar on the harmonic balancer bolt. Then rest the other end on the ground and tap the key. It will loosen right up. Good luck. Great job
stevepitbull here is another advise for you since you never owned a Mercedes, you cannot do this with Mercedes, it will start up. It has an ignition latch system. In other words, most of the cars you have to keep turning the ignition until the car start. Mercedes not. When you “tap” the key, the starter will be engaged all the way until the engine fully run.
@@shekoo1609 Tarek, you misunderstand him ! He means that you might put the other end on the ground and belmasry zai ma benqoul ediha touch bel moftah ! The crankshaft nut will loose immediately ! Means you have to be sensitive with the ignition key when you tapped it ! Wael
JUST WONDERING... I OVER TIGHTENED MY OIL FILTER TOP]M112 CLK 320] AND CRACKED THE BOTTOM OF THE STEM OF THE FILTER HOLDER ..I MANAGED TO GET THE END OUT OF THE HOUSING BUT I THINK MAYBE A PIECE OF PLASTIC MAY HAVE GONE IN THE HOLE .. I'M NOT SURE... IS THE PART REMOVABLE SO I CAN GET TO IT AND AND CHECK IF ITS ALL CLEAR?...ALSO WHAT IF I PUT OIL IN THE ENGINE AND CRANK IT...WITHOUT PUTTING THE OIL FILTER BACK IN COULD THE OIL FORCE THE SMALL PIECE OUT AGAIN ?I PS I HAVE TAKEN THE FILTER HOUSING OFFCHEERS THANKS FOR THE VIDEOS ..VERY GOOD!!
250,000 miles, almost 400,000 km, didn't change the rail guide, in order to do so, you must take the heads off and mine was in a goo shape. Thanks for watching.
@@shekoo1609 Also, you could just 'roll'' one in and avoid doing that much work and the potential problems that comes with pulling the front cover. Just commenting in case people see this video and still want to replace theirs.
Hello. I enjoyed watching your video for the M112 engine timing chain replacement. I’m confused a little bit about the markes or the guides orders on the three spots ! I know that it’s been five years since you uploaded this video but I need your advice in a similar matter. Any phone number to communicate with you? Wael
ps. I'm at around 185,000km (115k miles) and the chain is getting a bit noisy... i'm thinking of chainging only the chain tensionner and plastic chain guides. Do you think they would solve the problem without needing to change the chain itself (even if its a bit stretched)? I'm planing on driving the car maybe another 40k miles. I frequently rev the car over 3-4k rpm
Changing the chain guid required almost a complete engine disassembly, and you must take it out. Tensioner is the most easy part, but I think it would not fix the problem by itself. Just be careful with this job, after all it is a double roller chain and it supposed to out do the engine life with a very low failure rate. Thank you for watching
very useful video. I am having some small rattle at only 180kkm. :( Not sure if it is normal or not. You can hear it with the hood open. How is the sound from your engine like? Can you hear a small rattle or not? Mine sounds like this one: ua-cam.com/video/-gl3OrFI2gQ/v-deo.html but it is barely audible. How about yours? are you able to detect this kind of sound before/after the operation?
Mine sounds a lot smoother now, i used to hear this noise every time i stop at drive thru or ATM machine and open the window. Now it is a lot a lot better. it still sounds rough some how, but it is the same noise level, no more trrrrrr tick tick tick trrrrrr. It is all the same level of noise and a lot smoother. Thanks
So basically i should consider myself lucky as i don't hear any noise from inside the car. I am only able to hear the noise with the ear near to the hood if there are no other noise sources around. Anyway, i will probably replace the chain one day, using quality ties, so i won't be skipping timing. :)
So, as I understand you change only timming chain? No chain sprocket, no sliding rail? Only chain?? haha stop fucking kidding me, so much work only for change chain?!
My goodness, look at this: ua-cam.com/video/fJmh7D9QsEU/v-deo.html changing chain takes few minutes, without dissmantle so much parts and save lots of time...
Actually, that was the video that i depended on to do the job, but i didn't secure the chain properly! ending up getting the whole thing out of sync. I think i needed to first take off the chain tensioner spring to make it easy and fabricate the plate over the camshaft gear.
Nailed it out of the park explaining everything to point thank you for sharing 😀
Not looking forward to doing mine 😳

Hello and thank you for ploading the video. After how many Km/miles must you change the timing chian and sprokets? thanks
I just saw that chain breaker tool at Harbor Frieght two days ago. I looked at it and thought I may need that one day. LOL
Great job , correct procedure requires engine & trans removal.good job
It's a good video, it helped me a lot, thanks for explaining very well

Do I need to mess with the timing just to replace the cover ? Does removing the tensioner move everything?
Good video.

Would likw to ask if all m112 engine versions use the same timing & sprocket kit?
Is this the same process for the m113 4.3 v8?
I don't think so, that engine looks even more brutal to change the timing chain on.
I enjoyed this Video, Very Much. Very Thorough !!!!!
Can you change the guides without removing the heads? Many thanks
Just started watching did you set the Ballance shatf

Nice
this is a tuff job...dang
Fantástico
I did the same thing with a swap my conrobs broke in the 80ies pulled it or rolled it through
❤
No need to touch the timing chain on these engines. Spend your time on the rust, bulbs, broken suspension springs, etc
This engine has 263000 miles on it!! I thought it needed one.

How do you remove the air pump
i love you
oh brother!
If i tell you how i replaced mine, you will shit bricks lol
might be easier to just remove the engine and transmission...
Excellent video until wrong hat
overkill
