  • My latest 3D printing design escapades led me to the Eurorack modular world, reimagining what a modular case could be.
What if you can freely rearrange your modules without the need for screws or a screwdriver?
What if you can combine any collection of modules for a particular set and immediately recombine them without having to hunt for little nuts in the rails?
What if you can combine any collection of modules into a semi-modular that can still be effortlessly attached with any other module collection in a sturdy case?
This video demos the first prototype I'm experimenting with, I'm curious to hear any thoughts you may have.

This is one of the best ideas I’ve seen since the inception of eurorack! I’m very curious to see what you have in mind for power distribution.

Thank you, I'm currently looking at using flying bus cables being attached to a 4ms Row Power, then I add some ridges to the bottom of the cases and you just slide back panel over it to have space for the ribbon. This will also further solidify to whole unit while still being able to slide everything out easily for rearranging.

@@gbevin Sounds like a simple and elegant solution! How are you planning to get these out into the world? Will you be selling physical enclosures or the STL files?

@@deastman2 I'll be releasing the STL files and open sourcing the whole thing, if someone wants me to custom print them a setup, I'll consider it, but that'll not be the focus. I think this should be a starting point for the community to get creative with and expand upon.

@@gbevin That’s awesome, and coming from you I’m not surprised! I’ll dust off my 3D printer and give it a try whenever you have the design finalized.

Just joined up! Printing some tests now. Would be super cool to see 1u modules as well. Maybe a clip point on the top. Or maybe just 1u sizes of varying hp. I am doing some printing for now and excited to try them!

That would be a lot of plastic for a 1U module. However, they're designed to allow multiple modules in one box, so I've been combined 1Us with other sizes.

Genius! If it could securely close while protecting cable attachments that would be amazing… And maybe one day be physically compatible with pieces that could fit guitar pedals so I can combine those with my modular. Really love the giant leap you’re making here!

You can securely close on rackblox while cables stay plugged in.

Have you seen the Sinusoda cases? It's a modular system but a different approach. Maybe you can gain some inspiration from them.
I'm very intrigued by Sinusoda but wish there was a more accessible or even DIY version.
