havent seen a squirrel upload in my notifications for many years, crazy to think that some of those euro truck simulator 2 videos are a decade old. Glad to see you still have a passion for making videos.
Honestly a lot of the missions are really half baked ideas. There's another one on this route that makes no sense. You pick up a lost hiker's wife and you're supposed to go find him. Except you pick her up almost 20 miles away from where she says she lost him while they were hiking together, then the mission is glitched and you cannot finish it. It never acknowledges that you've found him even if you did.
theres a scenario on the London goblin line where it says about trouble happening on a spooky season night, and you have the dispatcher say 'what was that sound' su[pposed fight going on (Not a single audio played) and you justy stop at a station to talk to a cop (doesnt even look like one) then continue ur journey. dtg story telling is as lazy as they are are trying to get licences and make more interesting routes to not feel dead empty
Living in la the horn goes off at all times. Cities can apply to be quiet zones but you have to invest in making the train line safer... No city paying for that.
It's funny how US is a rich country, yet aren't bothered to invest on safer lines. It's seems like US government don't care about trains blowing their horn at night and disturbing neighbors.
I remember a spirit of steam mission being more interesting. being stopped by a signaller because he didn't see a train pass and sents you down to investigate, you find the train stopped by i think it was sheep and then you go tell the other signaller down the track what happened. Atleast something a bit interesting.
The problem with night missions in Train Simulator games is they are not as dark IRL. Driver's eyes adapt and they see more than this. People's perception of a dark can't actually be captured faithfully even on video. They should really think about this and put in some eye's adaptation in to make the surrounding terrain more visible and the nighttime gameplay more enjoyable.
What an odd mission. Reminds me of the helicopter missions way back in the SNES Pilotwings, where you'd be playing with the rocket pack one second and then the next they're sending you on a rescue mission to free some political prisoners while anti-aircraft artillery tries to stop you.
Just a heads up, FRA regulations are at grade crossings you give 2 long, 1 short then one long sounding of the horn until you take command of the crossing and play your bell the entire time. Unless its designated a no sound crossing you do that regardless of if its day or night.
Spot cab, where you should stop your cab at stations when operating from the cab (youre operating from the engine so thats a little different) In normal operation you would operate with the engine up front going outbound from los Angeles union Station on this route (LAUS) and from the cab when going towards LAUS.
This had the potential to be like that FSX mission "Tokyo Executive Transport"... The one with the secret volcano island runway. Instead it ended up being more like the same FSX mission, but when you choose not to accept the 2nd stage.
@@potatoman451 I only play scenarios... But if they're going to do "fantasy mystery" ones like this, they need to lean into it more. Instead of ending the trip early, they should have given a minimum speed to stay above so that the bad guys couldn't jump onto the train. Then maybe have dispatch call in that you're catching up to a slow freight train, so they're going to send you onto the opposite track, but you have to keep your speed up to get past before the track runs out... Who cares if it's not realistic when the plot of the scenario isn't really realistic to begin with?

Squirrel seems to have come up on my recommendations for the first time in nearly10 years!? Loved the early train sim videos from 2015, I'm glad to have you back! (Even though you didn't seem to go anywhere 😬)
In America they are usually required to blow a crossing cadence with the horn between a whistle board until the engine enters the crossing. Long - Long - Short - Long. FRA rule 14L I believe as a rail fan but not an expert. I believe the bell is used more so when entering station platforms or operating at slow speeds when people on foot are near the trains. Again, not an expert.
bell is used any time it's near people. a horn can be heard for miles, the bell , maybe 100 feet. if you can hear the bell, you're BERY near the train.
Hey Squirrel. Love you, love your channel but sometimes you make me wanna face palm 🤦🏻♂️. Trying out tsw5 by playing a tsw4 scenario/route... and possibly one of the worst 🥱. Great vid all the same. (Even if it was a dull scenario). Tk buddy. 👍
This has been the problem with Train Sim World and Dovetail Games for a looooong time. It’s the same game from 2010 just reskinned, there’s never any improvements in game engine or mechanics. All of their “missions” have been the same boring scripted dialog with nothing interesting happening in the game world. And people still buy this crap.
I have never gotten the obsession with Train Sim World, nor do I ever intend to buy any of them. I got Train Simulator in a pack with a flight sim and a fishing sim I didn't want, and haven't done much since. I will buy a route or engine I like when it is on heavy sale, but so much of this is so expensive for so little, and even more so since Sim World started. The possibility of being stopped by something on the tracks because people are trying to rescue a prisoner sounds amazing, and another comment mentioned a spooky midnight drive where you hear noises and see things, but none of the scenarios are actually like that.
I’m a first time train sim world player. Love all sims but I’m really struggling to find the immersion in this like I do in say American truck sim or DCS. The world just doesn’t feel alive. Are their no immersion modes? Maybe it’s just not for me. Idk. Looking for any feedback really.
Thanks Squirrel. Normally I shoot y'all when you're tearing into my garbage but you seem cool. :P Jokes aside, thanks for the video I think I'm leaning towards this over the *ahem* other option. o7

Sounds like a typical day's work for somebody who's job is to drive a train. DTG must employ some real weirdos to come up with nonsense like that.
Dovetail Games need to shut down. All their Train Sim games look the same.
They could have at least added police car with lights on at the final station. I guess it would mean doing actual work.
I’ve been laid low with covid and this prison transport video is just the tonic I need. Paul is the boss of simulation.
Good call. COVID requires rest and relaxation. Nothing better to put you to sleep than a laughably boring scenario by DTG. 😴

i remember doing this scenario thinking it sounded different fun and just finding it boring and slow
Agree! Most 'missions' in the TSW franchise are a dead-end, bugged, and boring. DTG has some lazy coders on staff.
It's slow and boring because it's Dovetail Games. Dovetail Games needs to shut down because of their laziness.

When the train moved on the side of you I immediately said "That's the Metrolink!' 😂😂

Horns and bells required no matter time of day or night in North America, unless in a noise cessation zone.
Maybe I don’t see it, but where is the upgrade from TSW 4?! Looks the same, no major improvements
Same scenario, nothing improved, just copy pasted from TSW4 to TSW5
There is none really. At least it's a free upgrade if you own previous version
Its just more crashy and buggy it seems compared to tsw4. Having lots of issues with tsw5
it's core changes

trains sound fir crossings always. in fact, they can (and some amtrak engineers do) blow for crossings even if a quiet zone.
They just need to focus on one thing and do it right. Why do they bother with these scenarios if theyre executed like a 3rd grade school play.
because some people like scenarios. Some people will only play scenarios

Its confusing that Passenger rail is named Metrolink in LA, while St. Louis' light rail network is also called metrolink.

Please bring back My Summer Car but in a new save!
I love when I go half a mile over the speed limit for a few hundred feet and the game grades me like I derailed cars
Just like real railway company’s middle management
Really great video, Squirrel. Always look forward to your playthroughs 👍
Squirrel can you do ETS2 when the new driver academy comes out?
This is going to turn into a Steven Seagal movie, isn't it?
Terrible movie! Great soundtrack though. :P
He would have done voice over recording for this mission in exchange for a Klondike bar.
@@Birdrunner54 Seagal can barely speak. Most of his films have him dubbed.
Was Casey Ryback on this train?!!
Be cool if fogging of windscreen was simulated so you have to use the demisters
On the expert 101 it actually is, for as much as that dlc was a bit over priced it did add some pretty cool features
Prisonner Transport ? Interesting
Sure would have been interesting had been anything different from a normal passenger run other than the text the player reads.

On Star Trucker, the heating does interfere, although its not a simulator and that game has survival mechanics as well.
EMD=Electro Motive Division
Well Electro motive diesel is now whats left of it.
Hi squirrel at least it was a video at the end of the day 🤝🔥🔥☺️☺️

are the sounds on this train real
recorded from the real thing. Metrolink created entirely new services just for dtg to record sounds and take photos

Not your fault but that was really boring.
that headlight is absolutely terrible
The headlight is actually fine. It's just volumetric fog doing it's thing which is also realistic
you had set the front lights too bright

How much money do they give you to keep featuring their copy/paste content?
Do you suppose he'd keep talking about how disappointing this mission is if he got paid by Dovetail for this video?
tbf at the end he was honest with his opinion. 'A boring mission that could've been interesting and an hour of life lost that can never be got back'
Let people play what they want to play lol
I'm confused as to what was copied & pasted? What does that even mean?
just dovetail games at its best. money for nothing and no chicks for free!
The Headlight is horrible. I feel it's better without it.
