Keep people from squeezing out so many piglets there wont be such an overpopulation and waste problem. As the population increases the detriment we do to the environment increases, it's the obvious problem that can be remedied cheaply.

Looks like the video starts in Santa Barbara, I am not sure where that old Chevron was. The Lobero Theater is still around in 2021. Theres a lot of shots of the court house, which is still there and looks the same today as it did in the 40s.

That Standard station was on Anacapa Street. Two blocks South of the Courthouse. That is the corner of Anacapa and Canon Perdido, looking Southeast, at the then-new Post Office, built around 1937, after being relocated from the corner of Anapamu and State. The old PO is now the amazing newly-remodeled Museum of Art.
The PO is kind of hard to recognize because the streets had not been widened there yet.
The Lobero Theatre (yeah, that's how they spell "Theater") was rebuilt in 1924 catty-corner from the PO smack dab amongst (?) the opium dens and joss house of "Chinatown", which was pretty much centered on Canon Perdido between State and Santa Barbara Streets.
Santa Barbara is kind of crazy about their Spanish heritage; none of the streets are consecutively numbered anymore, rather they were re-named after the 1925 earthquake from Padre St (was 1st Street originally) to Quinto (means and was 5th) when the Lokes really started to embrace their Spanish heritage, and most of the other Spanish street names were before that named by the padres at the Old Mission. At least the streets are called East or West (of State) but that is still unsettling to visitors who may have trouble wrapping their minds around the fact that the beaches also run East-West. State Street runs North-South (perpendicular to the beach), except for the half of State Street that runs East-West. Got it?
And don't worry, the beaches are devoid of Great White sharks! (They're all in the water.) We just either ignore them or pretend they're not there, it's ok! If you don't choose to swim in the ocean there's options, but you're really missing out. The East-West beach thing means the ocean is usually a millpond instead of like other SoCal beaches which can be Steep and Rip-Tidey. IOW, it's paradise. Your Highs will be around the low 80's and your Lows in the 60's most of the time, after the super-cozy and romantic fog burns off around noon. Supposedly Santa Barbara gets at least 15" of rain/year, but for the last few winters the ground has gotten wet no more than 5 times. Except for the Deluge of 2019 when we got 3/8 of an inch all in one day! Tell that to the Queen who was nearly washed out to sea when she visited Ronnie's Rancho Cielo in the 80's.
The old 1872 Courthouse was replaced after the big quake as well in 1929 just before the stock market tanked. This one has kind of a Moorish-Byzantine-Spanish theme, and taking the ancient elevator to the top of the clock tower will reward you with one of the best views in town. Only recently have any new buildings been allowed over two stories, but the limit now seems to be around 54' so best book now while the red-tiled roofs are still visible.
Santa Barbara is a GREAT place to visit and they welcome visitors from anywhere regardless of race, creed, color, sexual orientation or even political persuasion. The weather is usually nice year-round but hello the ocean is kinda cold, not tropical. Fall is hottest and late Spring is perfect unless you are only working on your tan.
Oops it just became the epicenter of the $2M tract house, but don't worry, visitors can join the majority of us who only dream of owning one.
Thanks to Walker M Tompkins who I stole most of this from.

Live in SB since 1961. Take the vintage cars off of some of these residential streets, and SB had the same appearance in the '60's. Also, the SB scenes go into LA after 7:00 (mostly). Around 16:00 are shots of San Clemente, a bit south of LA, but not really LA. The fruit inspection stop at 16:30s+ is of Tiajuana. By the 17:00s+ shots of various towns in Mexico, mostly Tiajuana, but the modern buildings and paved main street isn't TJ, (but, the signs are in Spanish, that's why I know). When I first saw it, in 1965, Revolution Ave. wasn't paved, it was small-rock cobblestone and sand. In OK condition. The crossing into TJ, also not paved, involved going down into, and across the TJ River, so it was a no-go during rainstorms. The colorized film starting 18:00 goes back to SB, the Peter Traver memorial because of his Lobero Theater design. 20:30 --> good Mark Twain memorial, Calaveral County is northwest of Yosemite, half-way between the Park and Sacramento, in the Sierra foothills. Nice shots. Go UA-cam ! ( : - )---

Say what you will about the times and customs of the day. I'm more familiar with the 50's and later when some of these things were either gone or falling into disrepair before finding some well meaning revival efforts in the '70's and '80's. But one thing from those times I would NOT go back to was the chancy nature of film. 7:14 to 7:53 is a good example. The disappointment of only finding out you'd messed up well after the event (hanging on to the exposed rolls 'til you got home then waiting and paying for the processing) was an inevitable but expensive hazard.

What about trying to impose social rules on people that are unattainable? Like women must only have children and stay at home. Like that one do ya? What about the rules that applied to you if you were female, not white, handicapped or anything that wasn't white male, you know the rule or laws that said you don't get shit? Like those customs and laws as well?
So, as you say I am saying what I will about the customs of the times, they were only good for a very few people. But hey you would have been of them, too bad you missed out on such good times.

America has never been great. America has never really been even decent, to it's own citizenry or other countries. These were the years we voted in a liberal president three times because of the socialistic policies he introduced but it was also the time we were fiercely nationalistic we wouldn't help when the Nazis were trying to enslave the world. We would not have cared at all, we would have done business with the Nazis, that is had bad we were.
