Great topic. Both of you did not show any bias between PSM and CSM. You both just gave the viewers the facts. Thank you!

Seeing the title, I was interested to hear how it would play out. I was not disappointed. You both were open and transparent about your experience with PSM & CSM and I think you spoke to the differences very tactfully. I also agree with your points about getting both, and that certs in general are about continuous learning, not just getting another acronym after your name... (I may have paraphrased that last part). I have both CSM & PSM, and I got the CSM first mainly due to the fact that a few years ago it was more widely known. I purposely got the PSM because I wanted more validation for myself that I was really internalizing the concepts and mindset when it comes to Scrum. Yes, the PSM was the harder test.

I've heard it explained to me as
CSM: focuses on teaching complementary patterns and practices (see scrum book)
PSM: focuses on teaching empirical practices (see EBM)

As someone who passed the csm. It is a two day training class that summarizes the value of scrum and the basic framework. I would think of the comparisons of csm to psm like this. Csm is good because it gives you the basic knowledge of scrum and attending the class gives you real life examples and gets you to interact with a team. The test for the most part is pretty easy and anyone can study for it and pass.
Psm - “I haven’t taken it yet” but based on what I hear and what I know about the test is quite simply. It’s harder. Requires self study and you don’t need to pay to renew it. Not that I disagree with renewing a cert because I do feel like you should refresh your education every so often.

When in the job market, does one hold weight over the other? or are they both viewed equally?

Looks like my second question got picked up 🙏. Thanks for more clarification. Have been following continuously following you guys from the time have come across your channel. I get a ton of knowledge from you guys and wanna be like you. I have one more question if we want to switch from CSM to PSM, do we have to start from PSM1?

Negative, PSM II description reads "Who Should Attend. The Professional Scrum Master II course is an advanced course specifically designed for experienced Scrum Masters who have a thorough understanding of the Scrum framework. It is particularly beneficial for those people with at least one year of Scrum Master experience."

I liked the stories and the facts. Thanks RR+TM 🌟
When I took my PSM I class provided by an external trainer, 20 work employees were trained and the exam was taken at the end of the 2 days before leaving the training room.
During the exam, there was total silence and everyone was focused on their own screen, only 4 passed that day due to the additional difficulty of not being assisted with translation tools.
    Quite frustrating for some :(

hi Ryan and Todd! Do you think coaching certifications are worth taking as the "next step" in a scrum master's journey?

    • @AgileforHumans
      @AgileforHumans  3 роки тому

Depends on the course/certification. Which one(s) are you considering?

@@AgileforHumans hello 😊 Certified Team Coach from scrum alliance is the only one i heard of, though i don't know anyone personally with CTC... so i am not really sure if it is worth the time and money

What do you think about Scrum Planning Without Estimation? I know that Scrum guide does not mention about estimation.

Love all of your videos, here's a noob question, perhaps someone can answer. As a scrum beginner, I am volunteering in a small project related to game dev (it's a multiplayer modification to an old title). I am struggling with setting strong product goals because due to the type of project I think they should refer to the amount of content (in that case equals to player experience equals to value), but they should be measurable and that's not something that we can do at the beginning of the project. Any advice?
Once again, I love all of your stuff, taking my PSM 1 soon and it's great to be able to soak all of that knowledge that you provide, cheers!
