They talk about 200 kph being fast when some single engine planes have a higher speed rating. With today’s technology and engines they should be able to build a twin that will achieve 300mph or faster. It seems engine horsepower and modern props should help with that. It would be cool to see a 300-400 horsepower engines on a plane that size and even 700 horsepower plus turboprop versions with props similar to those found on the newer c-130’s.
700 hp you would be looking at 40 to 45 gallons per hour per side, and that's at cruise speed and as high as 100 gallons per side for takeoff and climb
The fast is just a sales pitch. It's a cruiser. With all of those upgrades, the price would be out of the reach of many on the borderline of buying one at today's price.
exactly when I’ve seen several singles that are faster. We have the ability to go fast with better than 40-45 gallon per hour fuel efficiency these days. Why not do it for those that want to go fast without having to go turbines.
Indeed The airplane is amazing and a Twin engine is safer but even at 1.08M USD most people don't have this amount of free cash to buy a personal airplane, fly it and keep maintaining it.
I appreciate the point and understand why it's been said before. That does not apply with the Diamond DA 42 and 62 twins. These airplanes have redefined twin engine safety in a way competitors just don't match. These plane's anti-spin characteristics on one engine is amazing. I have seen simulated engine outs in the air many times and watched the pilot apply trim as needed and continue flying hands free on auto pilot in a way that is simple and uncomplicated. The pilot workload is reduced so much it's a non event unlike in other planes.
@@MikeBrown-ex9nhthere are more singles that crash that way. Modern fadec twins are very safe and yes there is a blue line speed you need to be above but that comes very quickly.

Not convinced that a twin is necessarily safer. Remember the old adage “the second engine takes you to the scene of the accident” that said the Diesel engines are pretty reliable. I had a Cherokee 6 known as the thinking man’s twin.
There are GA planes from the 40s still flying like the Piper cub , so making that safety claim is just speculation. Composite carbon materials are difficult to test for fatigue
