Sonic and his friends and us are here every step of the way. So let them and us heal the pain and wounds. I known the scars of the past won't go away but it can heal over time. Sonic and his friends and us care about you Shadow the Hedgehog. I know it hurts but the important thing is that...WE'RE HERE FOR YA.

A girl that wished to live, that died, and had her life taken from her, and a hedgehog that lived and wished to die. Tragic. Poetic even. All the same, *this* is who Shadow really is as a character. He’s not edgy, the environment he grew up in just made it difficult for him to express his emotions. Under all the seeming angst and anger, lies pain, heartbreak, hate, and so much sadness. For all we know, that’s why we don’t see this vulnerable side to Shadow: the memories, the pain from those feelings. It’s too much to bare when the guilt won’t leave you.

Sonic: “No.”
Shadow: “WHAT?”
Sonic: “Shadow, I know grief and painful pressure when I see it. I’m not just gonna let you hold it in. You’ve been holding it in for some time now, haven’t you?”
Shadow: “...” *holds back the tears*
Sonic: “Well...right now, just let it all out. Don’t keep it in any longer. Let it all go.”
Shadow: “...” *heavily breathes* “Are y-you sure? Cause...cause you gotta get back out there.”
Sonic: “I’m sure. Just go ahead. I’m here.”
Shadow: “...” *starts sobbing softly*
Sonic: “Don’t hold back buddy. Keep going.”
Shadow: *Bawling HARD*
Sonic: “There we go. Let it all out bud’. It’s Ok. I’m right here.” *pats his back*
*Hours later in the middle of the night*
Shadow: *Still bawling hard*
Sonic: “Shhhh~ That’s my little faker.”
Shadow: *whimpering* “Heh. I’m not a faker anymore. Thanks Sonic.”
Sonic: “Anytime Shadow.”
And then they got ice cream

Maybe that’s why Shadow doesn’t express his emotions much. He did grow up in an environment that’d made him somewhat introverted, making it difficult to express his emotions openly. But maybe, he fears letting out all that pain would mean he loved her less. Maybe, Shadow fears letting go, means he’d love her less, or forget her.
Poor shadow
I want Sonic Movie 3 to happen in this movie. Movie Shadow lost Maria and Movie Sonic lost Longclaw. Sonic and Shadow are alone in the Space ARK, they start an argument about the death of Maria and Longclaw until Shadow has a mental breakdown and Sonic comforts him and emotionally tells him he lost Longclaw. And they start making out.
They need do something similar in the games. Not only this would explain why Shadow has been out of character throughout the 2010s, but Kirk Thornton can improve his Shadow voice. I have seen him voiced more emotional and broken characters.
I wish tails had this much emotional depth to him, let’s be real as much as he’s matured you can’t tell me he’s not struggling with some stuff inside

Maria was one of shadows friends who died by getting shot, ( i think) risking her life to get shadow to earth from space. He blames himself for her death. Its stated in a few shows and games
