Dawg, what a reasonable take. This is why I come back. We need the positivity. I'm brewing Svella with stupid bombs and I can't wait to play again. Keep it real.
Great take as always. I do think it's more than just precons and everything else. I suspect Wizards will only further mess up the format and that more super staples are likely to come. The greedy consumers fuel the greed of the company. If you refuse to waste money on overpriced super staples, you will be much better off and become a better player.
@@bettercommander everything else is definitely a hard to categorize jumble. I think some jank decks ending up being "precon" level, but I do think almost anything is playable in the same pod except for the precon and cEDH level. The more important factor to casual than power descrepencies is threat assessment and trying to give everyone enough of a chance to do something with their deck and have a little fun. This is more where the saltiness comes from.
Man I enjoyed seeing adults cry over cardboard but I didn’t expect to hear this news. I ran Iname Death Aspect decades back, even did a deck tech on a long abandoned Yt channel during a GP. I never thought I’d see death threats towards the RC cause a handover of the keys like it’s a messy divorce. Grim times, thanks for being a relaxing dude
I compete in a budget tournament at my LGS and sometimes in "national" events ($160usd) and it's very fun to play competitive but without the "staple" expensive cards. With my regular kitchen table circle, I always have a weird experience because they play very powerful commanders and use all the money they can in building them with the most optimal cards.... And I love faeries and Jank xD I feel great when I win with my pile of weird stuff, but sometimes I get tired of always trying to catch up with everyone, so maybe this "bracket" system will help our group to have more balanced games if we can measures the level of our decks to a stablished list.... maybe xD
You're probably mostly right brother, but there's definitely bad vibes as you said about WotC directly taking control. I play exclusively with friends, so it mostly doesn't actually affect me, but still. Death threats are never O.K., that's a take mostly everyone agrees with. To me it seems like the RC was a little group of goobers that naturally did not deal well with suddenly becoming the law on commander and commander bans especially. Any profession or hobby that gets larger will inevitably get haters that start making death threats. But while larger companies like WotC have a team equipped to deal with death threats (like sending pinkertons to one-up the schmucks), smaller groups like the RC most likely didn't. My "conspiracy theory" is that WotC definitely had a fist in the pie of the RC and the commander banlist. So when this debacle happened, WotC maliciously used the death threats and understandably distraught vibe of the RC to make an offer they can't refuse and take over the RC. Fucked up for the RC, but unfortunately a small party growing this quick did end up woefully unequipped to deal with the harshness of tantrum-throwing baboons that make death threats. But as much as I agree staying positive is important, there's no denying there's no faith in WotC/Hasbro whatsoever to handle any of this gracefully, unless gracefully means making more more more money. Picture it: The year is 2028: WotC have just announced a new set of precons and product. Precons are made for tiers nowadays. New must-buy tier 3 WURBG precon with a generic value engine commander, only 180,-! A real steal. Since WotC constantly wrongly evaluates card power levels, speculators suspect the 50-70,- precons made for tiers 1-2 might have at least a singular card that will boost the precon to the next tier upon the next quarterly tier evaluation, increasing it's value. There's "land packages" sold now to "Upgrade your precon to the next tier! A full set of fetch lands!" marketing on how if the commander represents you, your landbase represents your home! WotC makes a funny remark and announces a set unironically named Commander Horizons. These 4 tiers will be used to sell premium boosters just to get some powercrept lotus or dockside and it'll be gobbled up. It will all sell well. I hold my breath & heart in fright brother. Or that might be spooktober starting.
Very curious to hear everyone's opinions at my LGS tomorrow. It's not CEDH there but it's a generally high power level. Played with my sliver deck at a different store a few months ago and felt like I brought a machine gun to a knife fight but whatever game was quick lol. My sliver deck has NEVER won at my local LGS and I've probably played at least 10 games there with it. Using none of the banned cards. Hopefully the changes to commander will be positive. I'm all for a whatever nothing banned format though personally.
It was pretty unique that the rules and the ban-list were handled by an outside entity, the RC (Rules Committee). Most formats are just run by Wizards of the Coast.
Sorry to be blunt man but if you wanted your money you shouldn't have spent it on cardboard. It sucks, but it's what happens when Wizards prints a powerful staple and everyone is willing to pay to get a copy. The game isn't fun anymore if you absolutely have to buy those cards. The ban is in the interest of players who didn't want to spend that much money on a card game and didn't want to constantly play against tryhards who spend all their salary on expensive staples.
The man said it best: "social problems require social solutions."
Nicky G has the best takes. This is why Better Commander is on my Mt. Rushmore of UA-cam mtg channels.

WOTC: "no matter how you feel about something in magic, its never appropriate to threaten somebody"
also WOTC: sends the pinkertons
Lol
That is probably the only ''Plus'' WOTC control has over the RC: The Pinkertons ;p LOL
My brother is a fireman. He has got some real stories of woe. Having cards banned isn’t one of them. Keep up the great vids, brother!
Amen dude. I have stories that would peel the veneers off a set of dentures.
Now, this video has some gigachad energy
Well, today I was asked if I was Spanish because I'm less wrinkly than expected.
Nicky come on dude I love a doordash big mac every now and then don't lump me in with them
You know what you did...

Yeah, there are definitely grades. Precons, CEDH and then everything else. I'm cool with that.

I think budget is the way to go. Limit to $200 or something. Maybe that could be a factor in the "Brackets"

Better Commander, I feel you about Golos. I was also shocked that Golos got banned. #FreeGolos #Golosdidnothingwrong
Spoopy pictures

That's how you get to the heart of the matter
And that’s what it’s all about Nicky Dicky G!
Throwin me a Dicky? Thanks BROTHER!
I still don't really understand what role the Cmdr rules committee had in the game? How will this be different?
