I remember I put this song on my phone years ago and without much care, I was just filling up my phone with random music. I always skipped it when it came out on shuffle. And then one day it came on and I said "I'm deleting this song. I always skip it" and just as I was about to delete it the whistle came in. And I thought "wow, I've been skipping this song for a year and I never knew it was such a beautiful track". Anyway, I broke my phone soon after that with all my music on it and I lost this song until today. I never forgot that whistle and today I was able to reunite with this lovely song.
Himeyuri was a group of 240 female students and teachers of Okinawa forcefully "recruited" as nurses for the Japanese Army. They were lied to, as Japanese Army said that the war would be over in a week and no one would die because they are merely nurses serving in rear echelon. However, during the Battle of Okinawa, Himeyuri was never protected, and 136 of these women were killed or forced to commit suicide. Many of them were also abused as sex slaves. Japanese government was the definition of madness in World War II, and Himeyuri was another example of the mad government dragging its own people to death. Not to mention tragedies of Okinawa island. I'm thinking "for Himeyuri" in the song title is the tribute to those who were abused by war.
