Soccer Again! (1930)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 кві 2014
- Full title reads: "London. Soccer again! With the 'fade out' of cricket, thousands of football fans flock to all matches."
London.
Various shots of a start of the season football match. We get to see a goal being scored. (I think from the shouts of 'Come on the Hammers' that one of the teams is West Ham.) Another goal is scored, pan to show cheering crowd.
(Natural Sound Only - No Commentary).

Finally indisputable evidence that Soccer is a British term for this sport. Fascinating that in all other lands colonised by Anglos, Soccer is NOT the major Football code.
Thanks to the shouty fella who says "Let's have another one, West Ham" and "Come you you Hammers", it's easy to track this game down using Google. It was played on August 30, 1930 (first game of the new season) and it ended West Ham 2, Huddersfield 1.
Precious footage. I wonder how many of these young blokes found themselves at war in within the decade?
why did your mind first jump to this? and why is it actually a reasonable assessment?
@@kellancarney810for you to ask. Next question
@@kellancarney810probably because another world war was only 9 years away?
@@kellancarney810 for you to ask, leftie
Almost 100 years later and West Ham are still hopeless
Won the conference tho
@@danielmessi1092 Haha! This bit me in the arse lol! Fair play West Ham 👏
Steve Harris like this
even back in 1930 they were really shouty lol
Brits using the word SOCCER?!?!? Now will they believe us? The term DID come from England in the late 1800's. Just saying. 😉
It's called soccer😂😂😂
Although 'football' has always been the go-to term, the term 'soccer' was nonetheless widespread in England when I was a kid in the '70s, as it had been throughout the 20th century. But by the '90s it seems to have been elbowed aside and 'football' became the only word used. (Soccer is short for association football, as rugger is short for rugby football.)
My wife (a Londoner) and I (a Texan, not an old bean) had the biggest argument about this last year, during the World Cup. I went to the British News Archive, and found the term used over 1.5 million times since the 19th century, tapering sharply since the 1960's. It is an English term, which has fallen out of favor in Britain, but is still used in Canada, America, Ireland, & Australia.
@@stevenhoskins7850 The word 'Soccer ' was preferred by magazines and most other publications; in other words, by the middle-classes. That's why most printed references before about 1970 use the word.
(and that's why you would have seen it in the British News Archive)
However, for the actual working class supporters themselves, the word has always been 'Football.' So the difference between 'Soccer' and 'Football' was almost always a question of which social class you came from.
@@NGT-eb2oy Ah! I see.
😂 So soccer ⚽️ it is then!

0:26 Queen Anita Bowes Lyon: Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaa
this just shows that evolution of how players play or tactics is over exagerrated lol they play very normally, its like watching a match of modren football, maybe a second division match but its still the same.
Not at all. This looks soooo amateur. The ball control, the dribbling, everything
You're joking. It looks like a pub match. The standard is terrible.
I wonder if maybe 1 of these players are alive
If they are then they are either 130 years old(impossible),120 years old or 110 years old
There are no comments! I'm the first!
Pathetic
