This was so helpful for me, here in 2022. I had to dig for it, but I knew if anyone would have a 'how to tint windshield sun strip', it would be you. Thanks my man!
The reason the film is lower on the sides is because the windshield is curved. Ive been tinting professionally for 17yrs and have very few ppl who dont like the way it curves so for those customers I will custom cut the film to follow the top curve.
Iv been window tinting my cars for awhile just cuz i hate paying 200 to get my shitty cars tinted lol but anyways thanks for posting these videos, you have a lot of good tips. Iv watched a couple videos to see how others do it to get some ideas to get faster and your videos are the most helpful! Thanks Man!
if I installed an "eyebrow" that 'arched' like that I would have no customers. PLUS, to keep within tint laws of most states - 5 or 6" from top of windshield, there would be almost nothing for coverage at the middle of the arch & maxed out at the ends...
you can apply vinyl on the exterior of a car. window tint is intended to be applied on the inner side of the glass. it will not sufficiently stand up to the environment.
The Better Your Car Is The Less Chance You Have Of Getting Pulled Over With Dark Tints . I Had A 2005 Maxima With 5% Tints Got Pulled Over All The Time . Then A Few Weeks Later I Bought My 2015 Charger With 5% Tints And I Never Get Pulled Over
Here’s a pro tip. Make sure you guys do this in the shade and not in direct sunlight! Otherwise the water will evaporate more quickly as you won’t have the time that you need to align it properly.
Looks easier than I thought it would be. I've been wanting to get a tint strip for a while. Now maybe I'll attempt it myself instead of paying a shop to do it.
Leave most of the film on top, above the windshield. Cut the the film like he cut it on top of the windshield to match the curve, then slide down the film to the length you want and cut it again to match the curve. Now you have an even curved film that will be the same length all the way. Follow everything else he did.
Hi, mate if I wanted to add 70% on whole windshield. How would you do it... Would you go over this Sun Strip you are installing or would you Go to bottom edge of sun Strip...
I have a MINI Countryman and want to have a sun strip installed. I just don't want that extreme curve on the bottom. I want it an even 5-6" down from the dot matrix. Have you ever done a custom cut like that?
A "sun strip" that follows the window contour should not be considered a custom cut. Use a simple spacer to follow trim, or (there are specialty tools for this), OR cut the contour following the BOTTOM edge of the windshield...
'sans' a plotter - use a "T" shaped tool designed and sold for cutting eyebrows, or anything that allows proper spacing and will slide easily. The tool/spacer follows the gasket, trim, or roof line along top of windshield, you can use a marker to draw a line on the film, if you use an eyebrow "T" tool to cut as you slide the tool along, make sure not to cut/scratch the glass. I lay down 2 or 3 layers/strips of discarded clear liner to protect glass from knife - I never cut thru to the glass :)
I will most likely never use this, nor any of the videos on your channel, but they are so informative and nicely done, I had to subscribe to you. Keep doing what you do, my good man.
Me (17) & my brother (16) tint for people to, one of our most common problems is the fact that when we tint windows dust gets on to the inside window. WE work in a garage that seperate from the house so basically the garage has no ceiling you can see the skeleton. My question is how do you over come the fact of getting dust on the inside window?
Try to transfer the film to the glass as fast as possible to prevent particles from landing on the film. Also spray the film because it will have a ton of static attracting more contaminants.
I love your videos. I've watched nearly all of them because they're so helpful and informative. How do you cut a hole for a rear view mirror? Do you cut on the outside or the inside? I look forward to hearing from you!

Thought you had to cut it in two pieces to fit inside, around mirror, saw my younger brother do this. Looked cheesy wasnt even at all. Im planning to tint my windshield stripe today in my jeep, theres some annoying sunglare even with visors down. My cousin bought me x mas gift 2 1/2 tint Auto expressions brand, from autozone few years ago. Finally decided to use would this this Tint still hold up since it hasnt been used in years. Still brand new havent opend box.
@tintstuff I want to get a Windshield strip on my car but my worry is that it has a dot matrix on the windshield. Would that prevent the tint from sticking well? I have a 2007 Nissan Sentra
quick question, do you vacuum and wash your customers' cars before tinting? I've noticed that all the cars that you've shown in your videos are pretty darn clean, was just curious.

Hey Matt, I'm seventeen years old, and started my own tint business about two years ago. I was wondering how many windsheild strips you do per week. Seems from your other videos you don't do to many. Probably 90% of my customers want a strip, just wondering the differences between people in Michigan and Alabama.
why did you not leave the tint on the outer? i sell sun strips for rally cars in the uk and they always stick them on the outside as have do. it is coloured vinyl not tint mind.
Allblack96 usually if it's below the as1 line you can't see it if it's below the line so keep it safe if you windshield is 36 " tall then do 8 inch strip
Some tops of windshields are pretty flat. When you lay the film down and card it to the glass. If you don't have any fingers it might be good to install. If you card it and can't get it to lay flat definitely shrink the fingers before you move it inside.
It's not narrow, it's the curvature of the windshield. You can make a windshield decal "straight," but when you apply it to the top, it will appear "arched" because of the curvature of the glass.
@crocodile2006 hi I don't know but my dad tints windows, and he puts the tints over the dots because all it is is glass warmer for the windshield and to tint over it didn't cause any problems
I was thinking of putting one on my truck but there are few things that really concerns me. I just want to know if those are legal to put in your car? Are those legal to put in all 50 states? Am I going to fail my yearly car inspection if I have that on my truck? What is the recommended shade of tint? Some of my friends said 30%-35% are better. I just need your opinion right before I will do that project on my truck. Thanks!
Stupid question but my friend tinted his whole windshield and it looks pretty cool cause no one can see in his car but now he has a safety check coming up can he just cut the tint into a strip or will that affect the glass inside the car?
Hi, On my windscreen there is an area above where the rear view mirror connects that has the black matrix dots. Would it be alright for me to tint over this black matrix or should I cut the tint so it goes around it? I think it will look lot neater and be a lot easier to install if I tint directly over it. Thanks!
good stuff man! I just got mine done today, and there's the dot matrix pattern in the middle, surrounding the rear view mirror. There are splotches in the pattern cause the tint is 'supposed to dry'. Should there be splotches in the matrix pattern in the beginning?
Oh that typical no side front window tint. Once you said Michigan it made sense lol i hate our tint laws. Hence why i watched this, 35% up front and 5% in back isn't dark enough but i dont want problems. The 5% strip looks good, ill be doing this soon for myself
What wasnt shown in this video is that you need to measure down on both side and mark each side of windshield so that the sunstrip is even on both sides. This isnt something you can just "eyeball" to get it even on both sides.
I guess you didn’t see the point where he did measure while he was inside. He used his hand. It’s obviously not as accurate but an 8th of an inch isn’t noticeable
Continue a fazer estes vídeos, são muito bons e você tem uma praticidade muito impressionante. Estou tentando aprender e com estes seus vídeos tenho certeza que vou desempenhar muito bem. Parabéns!
What kind of tint do you use? I bought one on ebay but my tint wrinkles very easy with the heat gun. What advice can give me,or what kind of tint do I need to buy?
Ebay tint usually isn't the greatest. Maybe good for practicing though. Most of us tinters are set up with companies that offer a quality film not available to the public in some cases.
Amen Travis! Every windshield has ASI markings on them and the last time I checked the laws, you cannot have anything below those marks. Check your local laws, "my tinter said it was OK" won't fly with law enforcement
Most people know that there are laws but even most of my customers want a low visor. They want looks then the function of the visor. We don't usually get messed with. Knock on wood ha ha.
I am women of 68 years old, i live in the UK and i am so happy i did it by myself so thank you.
i am man of 22 years old, congrats
Hi, "women of 68 years old"! I thought English originated in the UK? It seems like it's not your first language.
i am man of 30 years old, congrats
👍
Hey man props he explains things very well and doesn’t cut corners
Just did my 04 civic windshield thank to you.. No more of hitting up my friend or a shop to do my tint! DIY! Thanks again
I have to say thank I watch a lot of your videos and have been able to tint on my own without taking a door panel off
This was so helpful for me, here in 2022. I had to dig for it, but I knew if anyone would have a 'how to tint windshield sun strip', it would be you. Thanks my man!
Adam looks really young and skinny

200? Mine 300 to take off and put new tints on.
if I installed an "eyebrow" that 'arched' like that I would have no customers. PLUS, to keep within tint laws of most states - 5 or 6" from top of windshield, there would be almost nothing for coverage at the middle of the arch & maxed out at the ends...
What's the best way to do it? Keep it straight? I kinda liked the small curve
you can apply vinyl on the exterior of a car. window tint is intended to be applied on the inner side of the glass. it will not sufficiently stand up to the environment.

This was the best wind shield tinting video on here. Thanks for your help!!!
Like john said, id also like my strip even from left to right and center. Not curved up. Need a how to for that
Leave most of the film on top, above the windshield. Cut the the film like he cut it on top of the windshield to match the curve, then slide down the film to the length you want and cut it again to match the curve. Now you have an even curved film that will be the same length all the way. Follow everything else he did.
ya the ford mirrors suck to remove, thanks i wasn't sure if it would silver and even out, or if it would look like crap.
Try filmvantage, they have different grades of tint that are precut to the vehicle of your choice. Their store is on ebay.
Hi, mate
if I wanted to add 70% on whole windshield.
How would you do it...
Would you go over this Sun Strip you are installing or would you
Go to bottom edge of sun Strip...
Sun visor is part of the whole window
I want to know if this strip down the interior temperature on a sunny day
I have a MINI Countryman and want to have a sun strip installed. I just don't want that extreme curve on the bottom. I want it an even 5-6" down from the dot matrix. Have you ever done a custom cut like that?

Once again, great job on your videos. One of the best at displaying things.

In MN the legal tint is 50 percent all around and the windshield isn't legal to tint here. Five percent does look a lot better though.
Very informative, keep up the good work!
I was watching other videos and damn they make it so damn complicated you make it so simple 👍🏼👍🏼
Crazy seeing this in 2024 and seeing how far you’ve come. Goes to show that consistency is KEY🫡
Great video. Have you done an windshield strip video that including lettering on top of the strip? If so, please point me to that video, thanks.
The razor doesn't scratch if you use it at an angle with the blade flat on the surface... don't apply too much pressure
Great tutorial man. Can you explain what you mean by the fingers? I've never heard that term before.
The little bubbles at the bottom
i have a vry low sun strip and another 'strip" on the bottom.. havent seen anything on youtube like mine
+Pc Gamer Hi! do you have any videos? thanks! : )
not but if you want i get some in
Pc Gamer Please do!
My buddy had the same thing on his Ranger. He called it a "tank strip". haaa
@@chriswhusker some call it a suicide strip
He sounds like Chris Fix
More like Edward Furlong
why is it curl in the middle? isn't it supposed to be straight all the way ?

Add at least %70 on the sides for UV protection
Dang Matt....youtube dug this one out of the crates for you...algorithm is drunk
@tintstuff I want to get a Windshield strip on my car but my worry is that it has a dot matrix on the windshield. Would that prevent the tint from sticking well? I have a 2007 Nissan Sentra
Gbennin you remove the rearview mirror. Usually it pops off otherwise I believe all you need is a screwdriver
quick question, do you vacuum and wash your customers' cars before tinting? I've noticed that all the cars that you've shown in your videos are pretty darn clean, was just curious.
it looks like that because the way the windshield is curved. fit it to be straight across you have to cut the bottom of the tint which is risky
A "sun strip" that follows the window contour should not be considered a
custom cut. Use a simple spacer to follow trim, or (there are specialty
tools for this), OR cut the contour following the BOTTOM edge of the
windshield...
hey Matt, very nice videos. Do i have to put the tint INSIDE? why? it would be easier from the outside right? thx
Nice job. But I hate the way it "droops" on the ends.
He pretty much means the big air lines that will form to the edge of the film idk if i make sense?
+TintStuff can u use a hairdry instead of a heat pistol?
Some hair dryers might not get hot enough. Heat guns will definitely do the job that's why most of us use them.
Great job how much do change for job like that?
Hey Matt, I'm seventeen years old, and started my own tint business about two years ago. I was wondering how many windsheild strips you do per week. Seems from your other videos you don't do to many. Damn 27 now. How's it going
why did you not leave the tint on the outer?
i sell sun strips for rally cars in the uk and they always stick them on the outside as have do.
it is coloured vinyl not tint mind.
hi wen i am tint the back film are side film there is a so many babools coming wat will i do
is this an easy way to get a ticket what should the length be?
Allblack96
As a convicted rapist I can tell you that this is not an easy way to get a ticket.
Allblack96 usually if it's below the as1 line you can't see it if it's below the line so keep it safe if you windshield is 36 " tall then do 8 inch strip
how come this does not require shrinking?
Some tops of windshields are pretty flat. When you lay the film down and card it to the glass. If you don't have any fingers it might be good to install. If you card it and can't get it to lay flat definitely shrink the fingers before you move it inside.
hey man nice video I have a question I want to put in my truck that strip but i dont have a heater gun, is necessary to make that strip?
good job but in the middle is so narrow it supposed to b same wid all the way it doesn't look nice at all
It's not narrow, it's the curvature of the windshield. You can make a windshield decal "straight," but when you apply it to the top, it will appear "arched" because of the curvature of the glass.
no its not. this was correct
You said Michigan. Are you working in Michigan?
@crocodile2006 hi I don't know but my dad tints windows, and he puts the tints over the dots because all it is is glass warmer for the windshield and to tint over it didn't cause any problems
what's the tint law for where you are
Hi there mate . I just wanna know if you tint both the outside and inside of the car window
Thanks!
The link to buy the tint please?? , thanks you
Very helpful, great video. Thanks
Great video, nicely explained. Just bough a sun strip on Ebay to install on my car.
how doesnt the razor blade scratch the window??
Stupid question but my friend tinted his whole windshield and it looks pretty cool cause no one can see in his car but now he has a safety check coming up can he just cut the tint into a strip or will that affect the glass inside the car?
Katsu LA let me know if u had an answer same thing im.wondering as well?
So how about these new fords with dot matrix across the top[ can i do windshield strips on those?
Question do you need to heat shrink the sum strip?
will a hairdryer work if you dont have a heat gun?
Hey was that a 6-8 inch windshield strip?
Can you just put the tint on the outside of the car....or is that just ghetto fab????.....I have seen vynil strips on the outside
Dude you're a hero
did he cover the dot matrix?
Hi,

You’ll still do work or tint?
How much jbs to water?
Easy wen u doin tint on a car like dat but i have a 85 Buick Regal. Can i do it da same way
what company should I buy tint from dont wont to get ripped off lot of company are calling me
How did you make the curve?
What percentage tint is that ?
Would like 35% look dumb as a wild shield strip?
Agreed, it would be light and wouldn't cut back much of the glare. I only do visors in 05%
Cant you get away with like 35 percent or so on the front?
Do they have different colors on tints?
Old skool vids , I remember 1st watching this vid 😂👌😎
What wasnt shown in this video is that you need to measure down on both side and mark each side of windshield so that the sunstrip is even on both sides. This isnt something you can just "eyeball" to get it even on both sides.
True.
Stephen Brezinski if you'd listen, he DID MENTION THE USE OF A RULER OR TAPE CHECKING BOTH SIDES FOR PROPER PLACEMENT.
You can with a kean eye but the guy does actually mention to use a ruler
I guess you didn’t see the point where he did measure while he was inside. He used his hand. It’s obviously not as accurate but an 8th of an inch isn’t noticeable

Ebay tint usually isn't the greatest. Maybe good for practicing though. Most of us tinters are set up with companies that offer a quality film not available to the public in some cases.
@Buick Regal yeah that stuff is thin and will crease pretty quickly for someone that isn't used to working with film.
@tintstuff where in Mich you located?
are you used only water
He probably used a mixture of Slip solution to help the film glide across the glass into position.
How much would it be for the wondows in a chevy 1500
please matt suggest me the measures on a truck silverado, thank you
A superior job!
which side of the tint do you shrink double check/wv
Did no one notice the spotty area on the right side of the windshield?
that was water drops on the exterior surface.
Checking the height of the tint in your way is wrong. It’s illegal to be below the markings made by the manufacturer
Amen Travs
