    Hello! I just found your channel and I’m excited to see Mars’ journey to becoming a service dog.
    What breed is Mars? (I’m assuming he’s a Red Labrador Retriever but I’m not sure.)

    Why did you choose to train some of his commands in French instead of all English or all French?

    • @marsservicedog
      @marsservicedog  2 роки тому +12

      It's based on a couple of things, but it's mostly because of one reason. Others I know with service dogs have encountered people in public who will try to tell their dogs things like "sit" and "come" so a common tactic is to train in another language. Things like "leave it," "go empty," and his tasks are in English because those are things the public wouldn't really know to tell him to do, so I just keep it in English. Dogs don't know the difference so it doesn't matter to them, and it just will make things a little smoother for us in the long run.

      @@marsservicedog oh I see. I never thought about that. My service dog is mostly trained in English but slowly changing her commands in German since I'll be using those commands with future dogs so I get to practice on her.

    Can you do more training videos! 🤍🥰

      Certainly! We're currently working on "tuck" so I could do a video showing all the different stages of him learning a new command using that :)

    He was a cute puppy, is he a golden retriever?

    why do you make him wait for water? i feel like water should always be avaliable, but might be different when toilet training

      @marsservicedog  Рік тому +3

      It's different for every dog. Mars personally will continue to drink forever and either pee everywhere or get bloat (or both) so I monitor his water intake for safety reasons :)

    I was wondering what words you are using in the video??

      Some of Mars' commands are in French! Here are some of the ones he knows: assis/sit, couche/lay down, viens/come, reste/stay, au pied/heel. You can search up "Dog Training Commands in French" to find more!

      @@marsservicedog I thought it was French but I wasn’t sure of it lol and that is awesome! It will definitely help when you go out in public as a team! 🥰🧸🌼
