I still come back to this every now and again! A video and a tune that is instilled into my mind to this day. Also, you could play like that if you really set your mind to it. Anyone can with the right mindset, practice, patience and determination!!! Can’t never could do nothing until he tried :)
Please, please, PLEASE. Lord father in heaven above? WHAT is that pattern from 0:17-0:24? I have been at my piano for hours trying to decipher even a fraction of what you play but the audio/visual mismatch and sheer polished speed of your fingers escape my audial understanding. It sounds like hexatonic minor blues but when you descend it has a major tinge, and you run faster than I thought was possible. WHAT IS THAT? PLEASE ANSWER!
Seeing as the lord isn’t responding, I can tell you that it’s a blues pentatonic based pattern (in C obviously). 13 years later, and after a vehicular accident they put a hole in my right hand, I can still (just about) play the same. Haha. New videos at danburnettmusic (also my social media handle). 🙂

I came across a couple of blues, I don't listen to them as much though. But I am taking up Music and the task is to compose either Jazz or Blues. And while I was at school researching, I clicked this video and my jaw literally dropped! Like omg. So speechless. You're a legend, Sir!

Amazing technique, my hat is off to you. If you have some time, please check out my blues composition- Gray Sky on my channel, I'd be delighted to hear your opinion!
Hey man, you are absolutly amazing!! I have a question: which fingering do you use in the this part 3:49 - 3:54 and which notes did you play? Thanks man, and keep playing!!
14 years since this amazing blues has been released and since I’m looking for and watching so many piano blues on youtube I was not able to find any blues better than that !! I’ m not bad at piano but it took me many years and now I really enjoy and have great fun playing that masterpiece by myself !!!
Wow that was GREAT! Heres a tip for people who want to solo with right hand in the key of "C"- if you play the notes c, e flat, f, g flat, g, and b flat, it will always sound good no matter what order you play those notes in.
@@paulbaumer8210 Pointless? So how come in music schools all the the world students are studying transcriptions of Beethoven, Liszt etc. Music that is so far ahead of this piece on every level: technically, melodically, harmonically and so on. Does that fact make anybody laugh?
@@musik102 It's the flexible timing, dude. It's all about the timing. So no. Beethoven and Liszt were definititely not ahead ahead of this in terms of timing and rhythm. @@Account-ru8wt The Art Tatum transcriptions are mostly crap, but even so stride piano is easier to transcribe than this. It's all about timing, and bending the timing. Immaculate416: Sped up! Hahaha, you're funny. Chrispap95: Thanks for your comment, I don't read music, and am self-taught so can't help you with blues sheets unfortunately.
my god.... My dad played exactly like this. he could play anythingg, I regret never taking piano seriously when he was alive. Now at 15 I take piano lessons and learn anything I possibly can online or from people who play.
I started on my own and learned wrong techniques that hampered my playing and freedom. Now that I follow lessons I've become so much better than before because playing music is something you can't teach, but playing a piano is something you can teach. If you don't know with which fingers to play your scales and how to play them in every octave without stopping or getting stuck you won't be able to play at your full potential. Ofcourse you need the ears and soul as well.
Ah, blues? Rhythm and blues, perhaps. Sounds like boogie woogie to me, which is a kind of blues because it uses the 1-4-5 progression and the minor scale. But check out Oscar Petersen's C-jam blues for a change of pace.
That song is from Chess records. It is also in the movie Cadillac records. I can't remember which song but alot of it was actually a harmonica riff played by little walter. If you want to learn about this music. Stop what you are doing and watch Cadillac Records !!!!
Of course people have different tastes and opinions and it would be plane wrong of me to say that what doesn't do it for me wont therefore do it for anyone else. He is obviously a very competent pianist but where i used to work (a shop that sold pianos) people who played like him came in regularly. I've watched his other videos of him singing and i much prefer them to this one because it's more about his singing than about fast blues runs. He is very talented however.
Have you got the sheets for this? (Just kidding of course. ;-) Fantastic playing and really inspiring for people like me trying to do what people like you can do on the piano!
Hmm...Well, this isn't bad, but it's not really all that interesting. The progression, the riffs, the turnarounds, the bass -- all pretty darn formulaic. But he was rumblin' down the piano pretty fast, and was sure smashing those thirds and arpeggios pretty adamantly... I guess that's why he rewarded his playing with the "insane" tag

I grew up with an upright piano,an old wurly, and a rhodes suitcase in our home.
