    It's wonderful to have a visit with Alice. Thank you for sharing your secret. I don't think I can grow avocado for the fruit here in Georgia but I can grow plenty of leaves. I know what I'm going to be growing very soon.

    Our avocado tree was 2 stories tall. Not one avocado EVER. Then the dreaded Texas storm blew in and killed it. However, it’s growing back. I hear the leaves are good to wrap fish and what not in to bake with. Like pescado en papel, ( fish wrapped in paper.) It makes sense that you could brew tea with it. Thank you for sharing this info. Blessings from Tejas! 💜🥑💜

      You need two avocados near each other to pollinate to get fruit. You could also graft a cutting from a different mature avocado tree on a live part of the remaining trunk to get the same benefit. It’s a good idea to prune regularly to keep the tree from becoming tall, easier to harvest.
      Make sure it’s a Mexican avocado if you are going to consume any of the leaves, the Guatemalan one is supposedly toxic.

      @@theemmastark ~ Good to know. Thank you! I knew about the 2 trees. I guess I got so busy with work that I forgot. We have 2 Layla ( sp ) avocado trees now. It’s all I could find and I prefer a Hass. Wish us luck! Oh, we also only ever saw 2-4 blooms on it ever.Also, 2 branches are growing at the root stock line on the Laylas.I think I should cut those off. What do you think? I forgot to mention that it is my belief that someone sold my husband a tree that was grown from seed. It was bought off the side of the road. Live and learn. Lol.

      Avocado leaves are very sturdy too...in my village folks used to make plates by folding and sewing these leaves ...

      I am just learning about growing avocados. If you grow from seed you need to graft from a different tree. Also when they flower, they need cross pollination from a different subset of avocado tree flowers. I'm going to study this more.

    Are Avocado Leaves edible?

    • @ednacrispin8825
      @ednacrispin8825 2 роки тому

      Yes, after making my tea I use the tenderist leaves - like spinach - to garlic mushrooms cooked in oil and butter for a really tasty snack or add to an omelette.
      I will be experimenting on frying the tougher leaves - like crispy fried seaweed to see if they work.
