After Funny Valentine this is my favourite vocal track by Chet. And to think that it´s next to unknown, and he only did it once! Why? On his next to last studio recording, "The Heart of the Ballad", there are four great instrumental versions of it, though. Ah, it´s beautiful!
Love is funny or it's sad Or it's quiet or it's mad It's a good thing or it's bad But beautiful Beautiful to take a chance and if you fall, you fall And I'm thinking I wouldn't mind at all Love is tearful or it's gay It's a problem or it's a play It's heartache either way But beautiful And I'm thinking if you were mine I'd never let you go And that would be But beautiful I know Love is beautifull I know
@Mark Harris - By 'la', I think you mean the 6th degree of the scale - D is the 6th in the key of F. Also the relative minor tonic. Nothing wrong with that! Don't think Chet wouldn't know what he was doing - and he resolved it anyway, so... what's all the fuss, 331paradiddle? You'd be a drummer, I'm guessing from your handle. Tin ears probably sums it up well.
@@historyrepeatscubed726 George Harrison was "assigned" to sing a 6th as the final note of a Beatles 3-part vocal harmony. (I can't remember which song it was). George didn't like it, but he sang it, and it worked, as it does here.
I love you chet
Without doubt, an excellent Chet Baker sound interpretation of Jimmy van Heusen's beautiful ballad. Ingenious!
Jimmy & Johnny Burke.... thinking Kenny Drew Sr. on piano
This is what real music is 💛

It's QUIET not quit
and, last line should be: "and that would be SO beautiful I know"
THANK you for posting. I've liked this song for 30 years now.....
who is konw about this awsome pianist?
The legendary Duke Jordan. He made an awsome album with Chet in 1979: "No Problem". A real gem, generally overlooked.
💚🌼🌱😃

That last vocal note is so off pitch. or the piano is out of tune. ouch
but beautiful ;)
No ! You sir have a tin ear. The very last sung note is 'la', in whatever key it's in. If in key of F Maj. it's a 'D'...
