- This video shows how to maintain and prepare your asparagus bed for huge harvest. My Asparagus bed maintenance method involves burning off the mulch for five simple reasons. Mulching asparagus is great but burning, I believe, will produce the soil conditions that I need for big harvests of fresh asparagus. Prepare your asparagus bed so it has the correct PH.

Add salt in spring kills weeds but asparagus loves it
I have heard that actually. For some reason salt freaks me out much more than burning.

I think fall would be better-because you get more consumption of the dried ferns....just make sure to have control measures as you can get into trouble real quick! Spring is good as well to wake up the soil temps......I’m actually going to do both with adding mulch after burning....

@@mikejone1934 yes! That is true for the ph--but the asparagus beetles, the weeding--the name of my channel is 2 birds with 1 stone-I think I get 3! Plus I’m a firefighter so it is a natural solution for me......not for everyone though! Hehe!
