What do you think about destroyers with hydro (for exemple, like a gaede)? I tested that out and submarines can't do shit if they are alone, they can't disengage and submarine torpedoes are a complete joke to destroyers (in the replay, the destroyer touched by a torpedo was slowing down, at full speed it's almost impossible)
The best to ideas balance subs are to: Reduce their underwater speed and increase the rate of battery drain by 20 percent every quarter of throttle used. Make them surface to reload torpedoes and recharge batteries once again to allow surface warships to quickly destroy them iff they overextend behind enemy lines. Add a gameplay mechanic whereby when the submarine pings or uses the underwater sonar that should be toggle-able any light cruiser or dd should instantly spot them under 3 Km and should send out a warning to every enemy ship that says "Enemy Sonar Detected" "Evasive Manoeuvres Recommended".
The fact you can completely by-pass TDS with the pings makes it way too easy to devastate BBs. Unless DD and possibly CV have some ability to just as easily cripple over-eager subs, this is going to be a bigger disaster than the CV rework.
See, subs do have a "counter." Depth charges. But the issue is, is that dds have to rush in and become floating target dummies in order to do so, but yea. Totally agrre

That's why capital ships rarely operate on their own but always in mixed combat groups with escorts. Guess good coordinated teamplay is gonna be more crucial than ever now. Which of course means, on public servers it's gonna be a game breaking shit show!
They should give dd's and some cruisers depth charges and CV's sub hunting planes if they are going to add subs like this. These are pretty broken otherwise.
@@nadtz DDs are useless against subs, the sub simply dives and keeps the DD Perma spotted while pinging which keeps the DD spotted even behind islands and inside smoke, the DD dies before ever dropping depth charges and guess what, they added a depth charge mitigation skill for subs this patch so ones a DD is finally able to drop on you you can pretty much become indestructible for depth charges for a while.... this game will become 100 % FUBAR once the subs are released.

What are these pings even for... We don't need auto lock on Torpedoes... If they had "normal" torps like DD it might work? And slower and more realistic diving spoeds that would make them more vulnerable and give counterplay
No point in taking cover either All you would have to do is find and take out the submarines and then DDs, CLs/CAs and BBs can start killing each other (That's if WarGaming goes with it, but I strongly say that they shouldn't)
The easiest way to balance this is to give subs extremely short ranged but powerful torps. This way subs have to position themselves really close to their targets to attack, and allows DDs to punish over eager submarines.

Sonar guided torpedoes need to go. Subs do not need them to be playable, and they make balancing more complicated. Sub torps should just be better destroyer torps. Give them better reload, dmg, speed, or concealability; that's all you need for armament. Subs are too slow for them to be sitting in one spot pinging targets so their torpedoes will do damage. Subs should be dumping their torps and hauling ass like destroyers. That keeps them moving which is important since subs are slow enough as it is. Destroyers have already demonstrated that unguided torps can reliably hit targets. If sonar-guided torps have to be in the game they should be used only for sub-vs-sub engagements since only subs can maneuver in 3 dimensions.
@@marcusess I know. But *Homming Citadeling* torps that can one shot a BB or cut its HP more than half are as bad, or even worse than AP dive bombers. Subs will be cancerous, more so than CVs if this goes through.
In the end the good player base is slowly withering away. And what will be left is new players who don't know anything and tryhards who like beating their chests by sinking noobs. Seen it happen and i still play a game every now and then that got broken like this, to completely reck new players as all the old good players don't play anymore. But there is no fun in that as i like a challenge. i said i will quit with carriers but sadly i still play with the sky cancer. i'm glad to say that the day subs are launched my fleet will rust away in port and WG will loose a big chunk of their already withering old player base.

What a cluster! All of the standard stuff that the different ships do goes right out the window. DDs scurying to and fro avoiding subs. This has changed the game and not in a good way. Real time strategy... gone.
The real time strategy is gone even since CVs are in the game, now we have more and more fictionnal (especially RUSSIAN) ships, F's in the chat. (Btw screw people saying "but realism", it's an arcade game not an historical reproduction. Hell it's a game with HP bars, where is the realism)

Theres a reason why all surface ships are called targets by submariners. If wargaming wants to make it balanced they can limit the amount of torpedoes the subs have. Or make the payout for playing a sub incredibly low. Otherwise gg adjusting to modern combat irl but with less missiles.
Or make it so the subs automatically surface after a period of time. And remove the torp citadel bullshit, like what is that?! And not have the torps home in that hard! You could shoot the torps 120° from where the ship is and still hit it. I mean, I really want subs in the game. Steel ocean got subs right, but got everything else wrong. I don't know how WG messed this up so bad 😂 all they had to do was make it so that the subs would be able to be hit (ie. They had to surface due to depletion of oxygen or something (not to recharge their citadel battery machine which is optional lol))
And on top of that, the deep dive consumable.... Sure that should mitigate some damage, but it better be the case (doubt it) where if a depth charge is right on the money, it will deal a significant amount of damage...
Actually, I'm changing my opinion. The main game takes up 52gb of data. The test server file takes up 52gb of data as well! And now it needs another 77.17gb of data? That's 181gb of data! I mean damn. I've only got 238gb of usable data on my computer that runs on ssd. I've not played wows since February, but I'm dying for subs to be released. I've got 100,000 free exp ready to skip sub research. They just need to release subs to the main game, it looks alright on top tier's channel and I can't really form an accurate opinion without playing the damn things myself. Subs should've been in the game since day 1.
dillydoe the citadel hit simulates how most heavyweight torps work irl. They don’t hit the ship and explode. They go underneath and detonate, the resulting explosion lifts the boat clean out of the water (look this up on yt its amazing) and snaps the keel, or completely buckling the affected the area, usually both, and thats game over for your ship if that happens.
There is play and counter-play to Subs, and it actually works. The problem, once again, are CVs that will ruin said balance because how they interact with DDs/CA/CL now. Remember, the no-fun police will continue to harass DDs at every chance and they won't be able to frontline the attack against Subs just like how they now cannot attack zone caps due to planes.

Hitting the ping is harder than it looks, first time I played I couldn't get a single tag. I don't think BB's will be that much disadvantaged, but in TV & TVI you won't see CA's hiding behind islands taking pot shots anymore.

For a month yes then they will try and balance it again and then another public test but as the things are now I think that they will let the sub and non sub game mods as it will be so they will make everyone happy (ofc this is just my 2 cents but it is possible tho to make a different game mod with subs I mean they made one for the public tests tomorrow)
well i am not gonna mention this video in my clan. they are firmly believer in that subs wont come. and some of the CC's i follow hope(hoped) it would be dead and buried. my clan have some really good cv players and they dont like that a sub can sneak up on them. thinking the subs will be OP as hell. well cv's for me is OP but they dont think so. so thanks for this video. it just shows that the subs are not done for yet. and ofc they need to be balanced. buffed or nerfed or both. they learned from the cvs.

How to fix subs guide: 1. make them slower under water and faster on surface 2. make them need to surface often because of the battery life of the engine and the oxygen level (can stay submerged no longer then 30 sec, depending on consumables and tier) 3. ditch the homing sonar nonsense and make them move closer to the targets in order to mount an unguided torpedo attack 4. ditch the ludicrous underwater torpedo attack, submarines can only attack on periscope depth

Did you know that the famous type 7 U-Boat was actually called U-96, and not U-69?
Sonar guided torpedoes need to go. Subs do not need them to be playable, and they make balancing more complicated. Sub torps should just be better destroyer torps. Give them better reload, dmg, speed, or concealability; that's all you need for armament. Subs are too slow for them to be sitting in one spot pinging targets so their torpedoes will do damage. Hitting the ping is harder than it looks, first time I played I couldn't get a single tag. I don't think BB's will be that much disadvantaged, but in TV & TVI you won't see CA's hiding behind islands taking pot shots anymore.

For a month yes then they will try and balance it again and then another public test but as the things are now I think that they will let the sub and non sub game mods as it will be so they will make everyone happy (ofc this is just my 2 cents but it is possible tho to make a different game mod with subs I mean they made one for the public tests tomorrow)

well i am not gonna mention this video in my clan. they are firmly believer in that subs wont come. and some of the CC's i follow hope(hoped) it would be dead and buried.
my clan have some really good cv players and they dont like that a sub can sneak up on them. thinking the subs will be OP as hell. well cv's for me is OP but they dont think so.
so thanks for this video. it just shows that the subs are not done for yet. and ofc they need to be balanced. buffed or nerfed or both. they learned from the cvs.

dont want to be that guy but.... there were homing torps in ww2;) but i dont like the sub gameplay to much either, going to be hard to balance it

Homing torps from a 1940 sub ! anything but DD's dosent have a chance now
They added a depth charge mitigation skill for some subs as wel, making depth charges do almost no dmg for 1 minute !

not really. in the matches i played the subs rarely got a kill but got killed like flies.

How to fix subs guide:
1. make them slower under water and faster on surface
2. make them need to surface often because of the battery life of the engine and the oxygen level (can stay submerged no longer then 30 sec, depending on consumables and tier)
3. ditch the homing sonar nonsense and make them move closer to the targets in order to mount an unguided torpedo attack
4. ditch the ludicrous underwater torpedo attack, submarines can only attack on periscope depth
