This is outstanding!
The only thing it is missing is the Ouroboros sigil of the Thousand Sons upon the pauldrons...though, no one would mistake the Rubricae for what they are and where they come from.

Thank you The 36 Lessons! I was tempted to paint the sigil on the pauldrons after sculpting some and not being happy with them. But in the end I was hesitant to free hand them and went without. @@BlindedbyDaylight Thanks, and yes I've checked most of them by now. Two things spring to my mind : I'm a drawer and looking at those sculpting video I realize Ihow helpful it is to envision stuff more in 3d, especially for the layering say of eyes or clothes. And looking at those sculpted from the ground up timelapse I'm kinda surprised how much of it is really an additive process, and I wonder how you avoid proportion mishaps when adding heads and limbs. I guess it's either experience or careful planning hidden in the video.
Hi@@Uriaque sorry I missed your reply. I started out in 2d illustration and started making models to used as reference. I had sculpted a lot as a kid so it all came from there. Eventually I moved away from 2d illustration and just started making and painting better models. It went hand in hand with playing a lot of GW games and loving warhammer fantasy and 40k. Looking at reference photography and taking a lot of life drawing classes when at university really helped with learning proportions and scale.
the power pack work was insane. truly the work of one skilled enough to master even the higher enumerations

I'm so glad you actually use the correct term of converting and not kitbashing which is a totally different form of modelling altogether.

Blinded by Daylight Alright you got me. It's a 99% conversion. It just bugs me with these 40k modelling channels that state it's a kit bash when it's simply a conversion . Granted a lot of them are extremely well built and painted conversions and I would be proud to have them in my collection. But they are not kitbashers. It goes back to my younger days when I was an architectural model maker before I became a chef. That was a job that included quite a bit of kit bashing. Nice work by the way you've just gained a new subscriber. What about a plague marine. Hint, hint

Now that I think about it, a plague marine helmet would be mostly, (if not entirely), sculpted like you did with this model's knee pads and helmet to get that mk 3 or 4 look.

@@BlindedbyDaylight If I'm not mistaken you can take multiple photographs (200+) from every angle then upload them to a site that converts them into a 3d print file, I'm unsure of the site or if the quality of the conversion would do your work justice.

Mepheston red base, highlight with troll slayer orange and progressive mixes of more rakarth flesh. Then carabourg crimson wash, and weathering powders ..... made from chalk pastels. Hope this helps

@@BlindedbyDaylight my evening is sorted! Really cool to discover new channels with awesome content. I ordered a McFarlane space marine just a few days ago for the purpose of painting it, but I never realised there were people such as yourself that do full blown custom jobs with them.
@@dalekidea There is quite the community around customising them on Facebook and Instagram. What chapter are you going to paint yours? I'm currently neck deep in apoxie sculpt making another conversion of a marine to chaos. Hope you like the other videos. Will have to check out your channel too! Maybe put your custom on there too?
@@BlindedbyDaylight I was gonna be boring and just do a standard ultramarine. But wanted to experiment with weathering and paint layering. I primarily make custom Doctor who figures, so it would be something very different. Maybe I will record the process, I hadn’t thought about that!

Thanks @@jaredsmith4507. I took inspiration from all the models in the range past and present and designed them all together into one figure. I love chaos marines.... but I don't play them in 40k.....

@@BlindedbyDaylight absolutely. The way you broke down the individual simple shapes was very helpful. I’ve always thought you just had to sculpt the thing all together at once. Building it up with simple shapes, oh yeah

That's not converting, that's just plain sculpting, that's amazing! When I convert stuff I'm happy to just fill in a tiny gap with green stuff without ruining the mini
