I have been searching for where that green line connects for 30 minutes. So glad I found your video. Thank you!

My trucks heater vent was stuck on defrost. Then 4x4 would not engage. Watched your video, found where squirrels chewed through the line. Easy fix. Canceled my appointment with dealer, and saved maybe hundreds . Thank you for you time and talent

Great video man! It helped me fix my 4x4. My 1995 Ram would go into 4x4, but when I gave it gas, it would make a loud metallic clunk noise. (this turned out to be the collar slipping off the splines inside the axle behind the actuator due to a vacuum leak) - The problem ended up being due to an oil leak soaking my rubber connections, making them soft, that connect my plastic lines to the metal lines that you show in your video at 5:37 and the soft, loose fitting rubber allowed the vacuum leak. After replacing them with short lengths of hose like you did, the 4x4 works great!

Man you saved me time! I have an issue with my truck not starting and saw the green vent line up against the exhaust before it quit running and it melted. I thought it had an effect on my no start condition and couldn't figure out for the life of me where that green line went. That is, until I saw your video. I went to junk yards hunting this down unsuccessfully, and in less than 5 minutes you eliminated one of my concerns. I'll get it replaced, but thank you for doing this video. It was invaluable to say the least.

I've watched this exact video before and didn't realize my problem.... I do now thanks for explaining the vacuum source and everything I replaced the lines under the truck (98 5.9) and was so frustrated that it still wasn't working till I realized my source is cut as well...

Great video, thank you. We have a 2001 Dodge Ram that the 4x4 light stayed illuminated on the dash. switch replaced, not the issue. removed the actuator and fork by removing the 4 bolts. The actuator worked fine. We had constant vacuum from the black line, moving the fork and locking the ring to the left, activating the switch and 4 wheel drive. vacuum lines checked out fine up to the 4 hole rubber grommet. The issue was the red vacuum line not disengaging or creating vacuum to slide the fork and ring back to the right and placing it back into 2 wheel drive and shutting off the 4x4 light on the dash. Vacuum supply line (grey color, and green vent line was good.) Our issue appears to be the same the ball in the switch is stuck creating vacuum to the black but not switching to the red line to release the fork and 4x4 light when working the shifter. The 4 wheel drive did work, just couldn't seem to get the fork to disengage the light or ring for true 2 wheel drive only . I will be removing the switch and clean it up or will be replacing it. Awesome clarification and explanations.

I was having issues with steering, it seemed the truck wanted to go all over the place, I live in montana so 4wd is very important, thought I needed to replace the whole front differential when someone told me it was just the actuator switch, I have been a mechanic for 47 years and have not worked on 4wd so I had no idea where this switch was located, found the switch for $15 but still needed to know where it was to replace it...you pretty much showed me...thanks

I was watching your video on the 1998 4X4 and I heard you say that the green vacuum line was nothing but a vent line? I have been pulling my hair out trying to find a location to connect the green line because I found the rubber elbow that had fallen to the floor but nothing else. Now that I know that it is just a vent all I need to do is find a vent cap and put it together. Thank you for a very good video and good information.

So at the beginning, the rubber grommet goes onto the actuator. How do I know which 4 holes of the grommet goes onto actuator? And then, how do I know which of the 4 holes of the other side of the grommet(for the soft lines) are for red, black or green or vent, Etc? Does it matter? Like, Those 2 soft lines coming from the 2 metal lines that goes to the little axle motor, owhere on the grommet do those 2 go? Then where does the grommet go onto the actuator, like which way of the 4 holes from grommet to actuator? See what I'm saying, so many ways to put lines, grommet, actuator all back together the wrong way. Unless it doesnt matter which way it all goes back? Appreciate any clarification you can give. Btw, EX VID!

Does anyone here know the diameter of the rigid plastic vacuum line that runs up underneath the header, and over toward the passenger side? One melted, and I don't think it's available anymore for the 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9L Diesel.
