    Tip if it is your first time laying tile or anything you need your cuts to be perfect so you don’t ruin your product get pieces of cardboard cut it to your tile like example Jeff’s using 24x24in tile cut a piece at that and use that for your cuts mak sure everything fits the way you want it then just repeat on the tile cuz it’ll get expensive if ya have to toss them out

    Using all-set always read instructions on back. You have to mix at 200-300 rpm for 5 minutes, let slack for 10 minutes then mix for 3 minutes. This will give you an hour or so working time with the thinset. If it gets stiff, you can re mix it but do not add additional water.

    Your videos and knowledge are a huge help for DIYers, thank you. But how can you mix a new batch of thin set in a bucket crusted with old thin set that's just going to crumble off into that nice new mixture? Will those chunks dissolve in the fresh mix or will you now have dry chunks in it?

    I installed a mansfeild walkin shower and used your sand mix tecnique! Turned out great! Thanks!
    After watching this video , I am thinking about making a 24×24 tile to step out of the shower on instead of V plank flooring.
    I want it slightly higher than the floor , I was thinking of removing 1/8 inch larger than the tile so there would not be a full lip and tile would not just be sitting on top of flooring ! Would It be better if I siliconed the gap like you did with your entry way into the bathroom. Or if I just put the 24 inch tile in like you demonstrated so well? My concern is making sure water can not get in flooring in the 1/8inch gap?

    What thinset did you use? Is it the same schluter all set you used for the schluter ditra video? At what size tile do you recommend using the spacers that level out? My tile is 8x10 inch. What grout did you then use? Did you have to seal the grout afterward? I've watched this at least 5 times, writing down everything and getting up the courage to tile my own bathroom! Thanks!!!

    When you say uncoupling system, does that mean the rubber/plastic membrane will flex with the floor to help prevent tile movement? I'm seriously interested in using that, that would solve so many transition issues.

  • @ZippytheHappyChimp
    @ZippytheHappyChimp 3 місяці тому

    I'm trying to square up what you said/did early in the video vs what you said late. is the thin set waterproof or not? If so, you trapped water under the tile when you took off the valve and let it run before setting your first tile; and won't that become a problem (idk, mold? poor adhesion?).If it isn't waterproof, won't water just wick through it to the flooring beyond the quartz sill?

    The stone thresholds usually need to be sealed right? At least that is what mine says. Instructions say seal before cutting and install, and seal again after. Is that altogether necessary? We have had quite a bit of extra expenses, large tools, that we were not expecting and my husband is not happy we might need to purchase something else to finish this renovation. But we do want it done right… can we do without or is that stupid?

    Also, why did you thinset over one area of the Ditra and allowed it to dry (3rd tile area)?
    That ruins the whole point of the Ditra as those key holes are already dried & not bonding to the tile to allow for movement.

      So you think only once in a couple months is ok? 👍🏼
      His exposure just from this video is more than I get in a year and I’m a tile contractor. I do all my cutting and mixing out doors except on a very small amount of scenarios. When I dump any grout or thin set in a bucket to mix I walk away before it rises and wait until it clears if I don’t have a face covering. Cutting tile and mixing indoors only every couple months is bad, very bad.
      It also sees a terrible example for others watching his videos.
      I say this from a respectful standpoint but your comment is amateur.
