So delivery guys don't need to knock your door. Everything is more convenient. If you need to return an item, you leave it in front of your door and forget about it. Several times, I was in a travel and my product spent days / weeks in front of my door. Never worried about it. Is that possible in Europe / US ? 2. Density. Seoul has a population of 10 million. (25 million of the population of S. Korean live no more far than 1h by car from Seoul). Fast logistics are easier to handle in such high-density areas.
You know well. I don't worry all the times when I leave my items in public area or in front of my house. It's so questionable to be success in U.S. because of the factors you mentioned are not suitable in the U.S. anyway it's exciting to see IPO of coupang and their future strategy.

I honestly never felt like I had a great alternative to the services that are provided by coupang (in kr obviously). I am not saying there aren't any competitors but the diversity of the products offered and the ease of use of the app seems just miles ahead of the competitions (naver shopping, ssg, lotte? etc). Also companies that are able create a fan base and is able to build culture around their services often succeed (tesla, apple, amazon, palatir (crossing my finger). I feel like coupang is already or if not almost there. I don't own a single stock of coupang but just comparing the experience I had while I was back in States with Amazon and the experience I had with Coupang, made me believe in this company a lot more.
Of course... CEO salaries aren't enough to even buy a decent house. You got to start living big as a CEO! Every CEO does that if they started out poor.
i live in seoul and was having a beer at 2am in a bar and they received a delivery that they had ordered only hours before. it truly is 24 hours. Their food delivery has about 17% of the market share in korea but is only 1 year old and is easily the best delivery service i have used. Personally i wont invest because the korean market is hyper competitive and is notorious for copying strategy and replicating at cheaper cost and more convenience. I see coupang delivery tucks at my apartment (over 2000 people) daily but not any more than other companies that offer a similar service
It seems amazing to receive the items we ordered in matter of hours. But more important things are the ones that not so obvious. I personally have never seen any coupang delivery guys and guys work in the warehouse love their job. If a companies is built out of slavery like labour environment, i am not so sure if i want to invest in this company.
