  • On Saturday morning, Hagay Charnis, his wife Lital, and their six-year-old daughter Ofri, residents of Gevim, heard heavy barrages of rockets. When Hagay also heard shots, he realized that terrorists had entered the kibbutz. But before he could join the emergency squad, he found himself caring for three wounded people who arrived at his home: Pinnie, with a severe head injury; Ziv, whose leg was broken; and Hagay's brother, Ohad, who was relatively lightly injured. Pinnie seemed to be on the verge of death. His mother and sisters had already called to say goodbye to him. Hagay and the neighboring paramedic, Avi, fought for his life and managed to stabilize his condition. Only in the afternoon did a car arrive to evacuate Pinnie and Ziv to the hospital, and then Hagay joined his friends in the emergency squad. Towards morning, he returned to his house; Lital and Ofri were locked in the bathroom, and he entered through the window.
Two hours later, he went out again to defend the kibbutz. Around noon, he received permission and quickly evacuated his family in his private car. As he sped along the roads, he saw numerous cars with punctured tires, some overturned and burnt, and also a body lying on the side of the road.
