It's a good thing OoT happened so far in the past considering that a ganondorf before this one did the exact same thing with the hyrule royal family as shown at 2:36
This happened prior to the events of OOT. Rauru was the first king of hyrule after it was united following the events of the defeat of demise at the hands of the hero of the skies. After his sacrifice to seal the first incarnation of demises hatred he became a spirit and is the same rauru we know as the sage of light in OOT.
@@citrusgamingYT I think he was the actual first, i think it is a similar situation to New Hyrule in spirit tracks where that Zelda was "technically the first princess", and if Rauru was it wouldn't make sense as that would mean there were two Ganodorfs at multiple points in the timeline. since we know the events of BOTW and the imprisoning war happen so far in the timeline where all three end up leading to it (note: i'm not saying a timeline merger this is what the actual creators said). i'm guessing that after an eon's worth and more Hyrule crumbled or something
@@twilightjester5672 My assumption was that both Calamities were after the imprisoning war, and that "Calamity Ganon" was basically a crude manifestation of Ganondorf's power escaping from his Zonai imprisonment. I like this villian origin storyline for Ganondorf better than the others. OOT was okay but I never understood why Zeldas parents let him in the palace (when you sneak in as young Link). This makes much more sense
It makes zero sense. It’s literally a copy and paste and contradicts what we already know. If this is supposed to be THE ganondorf of old then they scrapped OOTs lore and rebooted. If this is a new Ganondorf then it can work(barely). Not to mention Ganondorf in OOT wasnt more known as evil at that time but just as the leader of the opposing army who clearly HAD to feint a surrender/ allegiance because the Gerudo had no chance of winning straight up and as we progress through the game we learn more about him. @bigboat it's just my opinion. i guess it really was a good idea to make breath of the wild a two parter, the villain is way better when you look at both games as a whole, and the story
Is it really? There's not even a proper explanation for Calamity Ganon's existence. It was just sort of there. It's up to the player to infer, apparently.
seeing ganondorf like this and his demon king appearance is the potential to make ganondorf his own character in the next smash bros game (if there's going to be one) by giving him a complete overhaul and a new gimmick for him being to able to turn into his demon king state that'd make him much more dangerous
Its still kinda weird how that one gem have him to power to create calamity ganon while Tulin gets enganced wind powers😅 Maby he always had it in him since he already is the triforce of power and the stone awoke his powers just like Zelda.
Having spoiled myself a bit, can honestly say theres no way these games are connected to previous Zelda games in any way whatsoever. It has plenty of references sure, but this seems like an alternate reality/universe/reboot with all the lore being changed here. The tears seem to replace the triforce, the actions and events here are very similar to ocarina of time. My guess is Zelda has been rebooted and we may very well see more of this link and Zelda in subsequent future titles, rather than a new one every single game. Will be interesting to see who will try to resurrect ganondorf in the coming games as ganondorf is never truly gone
I agree with you. It's impossible to connect this properly with the story that already has been established. I see it more as an alternative universe as well. Which is a bit of a shame because it takes away some of the immersion.
@@JH24821Why can’t it take place in the gap between Skyward Sword & Minish Cap? I’ve looked at many people’s reasoning, and all of this ‘reboot’ crap seems to boil down to that people didn’t expect there to be an original Ganondorf sealed beneath the castle this whole time, they don’t like it’s called the imprisoning war, they were under the false presumption that SS Link and SS Zelda founded Hyrule, etc, etc. Every ‘contradiction’ I’ve seen is very easily explained away and just a matter of people not liking it cause it didn’t fit their original vision, or not realizing most Zelda games are set thousands of years apart with plenty of room for new lore and wars inbetween
@@WindMageMaster In the end people should absolutely believe the version of the timeline and events they prefer. It's just that for me personally I have a difficult time connecting this game with past events.
@@JH24821 Well, that’s true people can believe what they want. I’m just saying I feel like the whole ‘reboot’ reasoning is because of things like: “I thought OoT Ganondorf was the first, and since I thought that, there cannot be one from before and OoT needs to be the first no matter what”. Stuff like that where people had preconceived notions (or some false info about SS being the founding) and are upset it didn’t match what they previously thought. It’s fair to think such, but I’m still not seeing any good reason for an actual retcon.
@@WindMageMaster You do make good points, and TotK could fit very well within the timeline. I guess my issue is especially with the Zonai. Where they referenced before? I always thought that Hyrule was founded by humans at some point after Skyward Sword and before Minish Cap. I'm just not really a fan of the idea that a god descended from the sky and founded Hyrule instead. It feels like an addition that wasn't really needed. One thing I find strange is that if Rauru sealed the first Ganondorf; where did the OoT Ganondorf come from?
A question I gotta ask is, how powerful is Ganondorf's secret stone compared to the Triforce of power? Cause it very much feels equivalent, somewhat even stronger in some displays.
@@flamenami If Ganondorf had the ENTIRE Triforce, he’d be a GOD. The Triforce of Power alone could of made him a powerful Demon like what the Stone did. In Ocarina of Time, he somewhat took over Hyrule when he got the Triforce of Power and became the King of Evil. Hard to say which was stronger, Just ONE of the Seven Stones OR the Triforce of Power?
If i remember correctly, the Triforce was permenantly sealed at some point, and instead of a power that could be taken and weilded, it was entirely hereditary. Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf have thier respective powers or must unlock them, like with Zelda's Sealing Power. Ganondorf's power seems to be manipulation and puppeteering of beasts and monsters, even before he became the Demon King. Link's power seems to be his unique ability to utilize and control every weapon, armor, and ability he learns with perfect proficiency. It does not matter what he finds, he will always be perfectly proficient at using it.
Also, I truly hope DLC explains some stuff, such as the placement of this "imprisoning war" because, frankly totK gives us many more questions and doesnt even answer many of the issues with BotW lol. In calling it the imprisoning war they clearly want us to think of the one mentioned in a Link to the Past, but then how do you explain this being the "founding of Hyrule" with a race we've never heard of before BotW that supposedly only existed before Skyward Sword as the "god tribe"? If this Ganondorf has been imprisoned since just after Skyward Sword then the calamity makes zero sense, since we've been lead to believe it only happened because Ganondorf was sealed and thus couldnt reincarnate. If it happens in the downfall timeline it makes more sense but still not much. You COULD claim Rauru and Sonias Hyrule was basically them REFOUNDING the kingdom over the ruins of the old one, explaining there being ruins such as the temple of time etc, but again, how do you explain them sealing Ganondorf for so long? In the downfall timeline he broke free LONG before BotW supposedly takes place since beast Ganon is around in aLttP.
The imprisoning War is the one you see in the game, there's not much to explain there as you see Raru imprison Ganondorf. The one that happened in Link to the Past is a different one which we've already seen happen in Ocarina of Time, then there's also the imprisoning war of skyward sword that ended with Demise's imprisonment, these aren't related to this game though. And as per the creators of zelda say, Botw and ToTk happen so far in the future that everything before it becomes a myth, aka the previous games and their events don't matter, these are separate events building up an entirely separate story.
I think the simple answer is that this isn't directly connected to any of the timeline (nothing was meant to be part of a greater timeline anyways), and they just wanted to tell a story that is more fleshed out.
It has been explained over and over again that BoTW and ToTK happens *very far* into the distant future and is where all timelines converge due to how much time have passed All events of Botw/ToTK are pretty much in their own bubble due to this, can't really connect to anything else since most of the stuff at this point is their own thing and most of the things we see are mere references to the old games. The only constant that remains that is that the cycle of reincarnation of Zelda, Link and Ganondorf is still there so yeah don't try to look much into it, no dlc will connect to anything from the other games because there isnt anything to connect
I wanna say the timeline goes as follows. 1. Old split apart timeline that we all know by now where Ganondorf dies at the end in different ways. 2. Time passes so much that the old timeline is remembered but hardly relavent. New timeline gets founded 3. Hyrule gets rebooted presumably by the Zonai 4. Ganondorf is somehow back and shares scars from all of the old timelines' battles such as the stomach scar and head scar. This means that this Ganondorf has to be the reunited one which further shows the theme of united tinelines in more ways then one. Either way this is the culmination of over a Million years of reincarnation and battle (i did the math btw), the united souls representing Power, Wisdom and Courage no longer fragmented and weakened but instead united and strong. Thats why these characters are so OP now i think.
I remember when first seeing Demise back in Skyward Sword and thinking "wow that's just straight up Akuma/Oni!" lmao but what can I say, it's just a strong design and it really fits Ganondorf.
Those haunting chants at the end give me chills everytime as we now see how it all started The source of the calamity being the slow decay of the binding rauru placed on the demon king.
Imagine a sequel where a couple years later (maybe Link and Zelda are older and married) and at that time comes the completion of another 100 years, so a new boy from Guerudo is born, but he’s not necessarily a villain, just struggles to overcome his natural desires to take over Hyrule. maybe Ganon is messing with the boy’s mind but wrestles with it. (Not good to be a main plot alone, maybe, but that would be some good stuff😅)

I'm here for the rewriting of the timeline 😂 We saw the false allegiance of Ganondorf to the King of Hyrule from OoT. The entire SS story is revealed by Zelda in the opening scenes of TotK. The Zonai = the Gods/Goddesses.
BOTW is confirmed to be a tiein for all the timelines, so far in the future the other games are legends- which is why zelda references time, twilight, and sky when shes knighting link as a champion. But its all so long ago details are fuzzy, names lost, specifications are difficult. Its why zelda invested in being a scholar. But yes theres interviews and in the guidebooks explaining this is a convergence of all the timelines in one big loop spanning centuries. This has been happening so long that names and events repeat, and few are the wiser.
@@arcanelyCryptic cycles, not loop, entirely different concepts. A way i think this could fit into the timeline is that this takes place directly after skyward sword. Demises curse originally goes into this ganon who is then sealed away. However demises curse just goes to find another host since this one is sealed. Leading to the events of other games in the future. I know its messy but its the best way to put it back in the og timeline
It actually takes place in the far future to the point where the past games are nothing more than forgotten legends. Which means that breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom take place in a future where the 3 different timelines became one again, So realistically speaking this Ganondorf is just a reincarnation of all the other ganons and Ganondorf's from the past games.
@@darkman4204 no, we literally see the era of Hyrule’s founding in this game with Rauru and Sonia serving as its first monarchs. Y'all overthinking the timeline rn, they said botw takes place so far into a future all timelines lead to it. Yes the Zonai were never mentioned before you know what else was never mentioned? Hylia until Skyward sword. Since the games take place thousands of years apart from each other you can add lore at a whim and it would make sense. Rauru being the "first" king of Hyrule also doesn't contradict skyward sword. A lot things can be used in a 1000+ year time skip to explain why the country of Hyrule was destroyed until Rauru founded it again. The temple of Time is in ruins, there's no way to the sacred realm any more so no triforce. The golden goddesses get mad and destroy Hyrule. Sometime after the goddesses destroy Hyrule the Zonai come into existence. Surviving hylians pass down the stories of OoT, Ww, Ss and Tp as legends which is why they are mentioned in the ceremony and the goddesses are only referenced through the dragons and the springs. Eventually Rauru comes down, gets with Sonia and founds Hyrule as first king. I just came up with a plausible explanation using info we know (such as the goddesses flooding Hyrule), real world history/myths and a destroyed Temple of time. Saying it's a reboot or separate doesn't make sense when: 1) They already placed botw in the tl....at the end 2) They haven't said a word about rebooting the timeline. I mean, that theme isn’t exclusive to OOT. It’s just his theme used in almost all of his appearances. Any frequent Legend of Zelda player would already know this theme, regardless of their age, because it plays in both new and old games. This comment just seems like an unnecessary dig at younger fans.
More like Ganondorf's theme in general, that was invented actually on A Link to the Past
There is another song, when he transformed into a copy of Demise in the second phase of the fight, the Tones of the Oot Ganondorf Battle Theme start to play
@elPinguino I like this version better. I feel like it shows his personality/evil intentions more. Just my opinion
This Ganon does the exact same thing you’re questioning OOTs Ganon of doing lmao except there’s little to no backstory on him compared to OOTS
@bigboat it's just my opinion.
I also realize this version of Ganondorf doesn’t have the Triforce of Power. If he did, he wouldn’t need the Secret Stone.
The triforce can literally grant any wish and bend reality, so I say Triforce is still stronger
Nevermind you said triforce of power I’m dumb
6:05 This has so much meme potential 💀
That face tho LOL 😂😂😂😂
There is a long gap between Skyward Sword and Minish Cap. These events fit within that gap.
I think the simple answer is that this isn't directly connected to any of the timeline (nothing was meant to be part of a greater timeline anyways), and they just wanted to tell a story that is more fleshed out.
It has been explained over and over again that BoTW and ToTK happens *very far* into the distant future and is where all timelines converge due to how much time have passed
All events of Botw/ToTK are pretty much in their own bubble due to this, can't really connect to anything else since most of the stuff at this point is their own thing and most of the things we see are mere references to the old games.
New timeline gets founded
3. Hyrule gets rebooted presumably by the Zonai
6:06 gonna be my new wallpaper
I remember when first seeing Demise back in Skyward Sword and thinking "wow that's just straight up Akuma/Oni!" lmao but what can I say, it's just a strong design and it really fits Ganondorf.
Ganondorf really just: *Teleports behind you and stabs you in the back and whispers*” Nothing personal.” Like a GD weeb!
Those haunting chants at the end give me chills everytime as we now see how it all started
The source of the calamity being the slow decay of the binding rauru placed on the demon king.
6:02 this has to be a meme, it's too funny lmao.
I had this idea as well, i think a game where we finally separate ganondorf from demise and defeat demise for once and all would be a good game
A reincarnation of Ganondorf? Interesting...

We saw the false allegiance of Ganondorf to the King of Hyrule from OoT.

Zelda literally tells us that her ancestors were the first Family to "integrate" their races/species and "became" the First Hylian Royal Family of 'Hyrule'.
And King Rauru is a dragon, the Zonai are dragonborn and can BECOME dragons.
BOTW and TOTK clearly take place in their own branch where the only game that is canon is Skyward Sword (probably), and all the others are miscellaneous stories based on the continuous cycle of Calamity Ganon’s appearances since Ganondorf was sealed away.
@@darkman4204 How though? Everyone says the timelines converged, but how and when did that happen? Timelines don't just naturally converge, that's not how time works. There's no causal connection between them whatsoever.

Long story short if Hyrule Warriors was canon you have a Ganondorf, Rito, Zora, Lynels, and a map layout that fits the amalgamation that is Breath of the Wild. Best bet would be child because of a reference to bird people in Twilight Princess and the existence of the Twili which are similar to the Zonai in both magic and architecture.
Saying it's a reboot or separate doesn't make sense when:
1) They already placed botw in the tl....at the end
2) They haven't said a word about rebooting the timeline.
