I played guitar for Willie the last ten years of his life. While he managed to only work 2/3 times a year, it was my pleasure, and honor to work for him.
Do you still play ?
Yk what happened to him
A Legend!!
I love Willie Hutch, I met him in Rochester N.Y 1998 such a kind man with a great stature. He was an under rated composer, musician with a velvet voice. I had the pleasure of seeing him perform twice it was awesome. As you can see I am a big fan of Willie Hutch, this will help his work to be exposed to the people who never heard of him.
Truly underated artist.
Never heard of him? What. "🎶 Brothers Gonna Work It Out 🎶 💝!
I host that concert .....the best concert I ever been too.... Willie was an Kind man... super talented
@@user-os9lw1bv3o Wow! small world, you hosted that concert, great job. I love the music culture in Rochester.
Another brotha who should've gotten more accolades when he was alive 😕
Brother's gonna work it out is still my jam 1973!!
Willie was the man… he had so much talent.. May he be Rip!!
I choose you is one of my favorite songs. The Mack soundtrack is dope 🔥.
Just bought the Foxy Brown soundtrack on vinyl the other week. Also really, really good. 💯
The Mack Soundtrack is his best.
"The Glow" is an underated record with a hidden message
🎯‼️
I loved his music back in the day, rest in peace Mr Willie Hutch.
FUN FACT: To any of you out there who is familiar with old-school gangsta rap, Willie happens to be the uncle of rappers/producers COLD 187um (Greg Hutchinson), and KOKANE (Jerry Long, Jr.), two co-founding members of legendary Pomona, CA rap group ABOVE THE LAW. They went on to become outstanding producers/arrangers/collaborators in their own right.
Great history, thank you for the information!

My uncle Wah Wah Watson was really good friends with Willie! They did a lot of work together in the same circle!!! He would be good for a story too!!! Uncle played on slot of records like Let’s Get It On, Papa Was A Rolling Stone, Carwash, Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite and some many other hits!!! RIP to both
You Uncle is a legend as well

Willie Hutch was AWESOME. THE MACK SOUNDTRACK WAS ONE OF THE BEST SOUNDTRACK EVER MADE.
“I choose you” was his signature song as a former D.J. and “ Party Down”. You didn’t mention neither of those songs. I was only 12 when “The Mack” album came out and it was very popular in my city in Illinois. I am surprised it didn’t rate higher than it did. “ I choose you” was on their and “Slick”, an instrumental I love called I believe “The Chase”.
I Choose You was another nice smooth hit as for as I'm concern
That's true im from the Chi too but you know it was hard for anything on that soundtrack to top those drums on Brothers Gonna Work It Out that beat is at steppers parties ,disco and house and still hitting
😮 Oh wow, that wasn't mentioned?
@@martinhenson131 That was another track off of the Mack I forgot about. It definitely was his “Signature” LP.
The Great Willie Hutch
PLEASE DO THE LATE GREAT SINGER, SONGWRITER AND PRODUCER
MR JOHNNY BRISTOL.

Legend. Totally agree!

I AM SO READY, NOBODY TALKS ABOUT HIS WORK AT MOTOWN OR MGM.
I'm 41 years old and I've always loved Willie Hutch and his music!!! I've always said that he was greatly underrated and unappreciated to a certain degree. To me he's in the same class with the greats such as Curtis Mayfield, Issac Hayes, James Brown, Barry White, Stevie Wonder....I could go on!! I really hope they do a big biographical movie on him still because he most certainly and greatly deserves it!!!! R.I.P. to the late great Mr. Willie Hutch and much love and respect to his family!
I've been waiting for this for years. Willie has long been one of my favorite recorders. His talent is unmatched and indisputable. I still listen to his music to this day... about fifty years !!! Thank you for putting his story on the map. I'm looking forward to an "UNSUNG" documentary with live interviews and his original songs which.
Mine 2 RIP. HUTCH🙏🏿
Hutch was soooooo talented and sooooo!!’n UNDERRATED.
Thanks for this story on Mr. Willie Hutch. My favorite jams written by him were I'll Be There and Brother's Gonna Work It Out. He was indeed a gifted singer & writer.
Young Brotha YOU DESERVE AN AWARD 🏆 for your magnificent work. I had no idea Mr. Hutch was killing it like that. Writing, producing and singing! He was a triple threat! May he rest in Power and Peace!🙏🏿
REST WELL BELOVED 😢❤ THX FOR SHARING UR AWESOME GIFT With the world 🌍....
Hutch was an underrated performer. Loved his singing voice, no one else sounds like he did. He was a big favorite with the pimps, players and hustlers.
My top 3 Willie Hutch joints that aren’t already listed are: 1) I wanted to be a Rock n Roll Star 2) I Can Sho Give u Love 3) Overture of Foxy Brown. Willie Hutch was an orchestral master and deserves a full documentary honoring his work and insights on his legacy. I remember his daughter sung at one time. I had her single about ten years ago. She had a beautiful voice 🧡 I am 27 years old but grew up on Willie’s music. I have most of his records. My fav composer
Great picks right there. Those cuts be deep! I agree on all points. Dude was a master. 😁
I Can Sho Give You Love is my fav....
I love all of those songs, 1)color her sunshine, 2) she's just doing her thing, 3) Brothers gonna work it out. these are just a few of my favorite songs by Mr. Hitch.
Thanks Brother Willie was a very Soulful Brother.
In the clutch with Willie Hutch 💪💪💪💪💪
I love that album he produced for smokey's first solo album as well. Great talent. Great Writer, Producer and Singer. RIP your music will always live in my heart.
OmGOD he is 1 of my GEMS❤
" Baby come close", yes!
Thanks for covering Willie Hutch. He is one of my favorite artists
So glad to see this! I was just listening to my favs "The Glow" & "I Choose You recently❤
Great episode! I did not know he was such a prolific composer/producer for Motown. One of my favorite Willie Hutch songs is entitled "Out There" on the Foxy Brown score. Very futuristic! There's a great sample of it by the Hip Hop group Robust & Pore
Paradise, by Willie Hutch
I liked his version of Stormy Weather
Yes. He was sampled earlier in hip hop by Public Enemy , Cypress Hill and Casual.
"Out There" is that jammmm...
His nephew is possibly one of the CREATORS of the G-Funk Era of Rap. He goes by Cold 187um aka Big Hutch with the group Above the Law (A.T.L.).
He certainly has the bloodline of Willie Hutch. He's very Underrated as a producer and in certain terms, the group has went under the radar in some ways too
Rest In Peace & POWER👏 Willie Hutch✊️
Big Hutch aka Cold 187… was the sole creator of the G Funk sound.
MY FAVORITE WILLIE HUTCH SONG IS BROTHER 'S GONNA WORK IT OUT !! FOREVER A JAM!!!
My favorites by Willie Hutch are The Theme from The Mack and Brother’s Gonna Work It Out
Willie Hutch is "THE TRUTH" ! I LOVE his song Baby Come Home. He also sang and wrote I Choose You which was sampled by UGK for their song "Int'l National Players Anthem"! I wish I was born 73 & not 1983! Music was real back then.
I met him when he did the soundtrack for The Mack, which I believe was Richard Pryor's first movies. My cousin David T. Walker was one of the studio musicians. The movie was about The Ward Brothers, Oakland Pimps, one of which was Willie. Willie helped finance the movie and appeared in a few scenes. Doing the making of the movie, the had to hurriedly shift the movie out of Oakland, down to L.A., because Willie was killed. They still got it down.
I hope he got paid for all his work. Back in the early days, many writers and artist either didn't get paid, or didn't receive anywhere what they were due, and the color of the money distributor didn't matter.
So glad I found your channel, which showcases all the forgotten superstar producers and songwriters of yesteryear. Thanx to your channel, I found out what became of Johnny Bristol and now Willie Hutch! Thanx so much, brother!!
👏👏👏 I'm a product of the 60s, and FINALLY somebody understands me.The artists back in the day had PURE TALENT, pride in their craft, and class. i still listen to willie hutch and all the others. 😃 thanx for another great article on the forgotten and/or unappreciated artists of that time.
Legendary! He is also the uncle of cold 187um from the legendary rap group above the law 💯
Oh, wow, I had no idea Willie Hutch wrote for Motown, or did any recordings other than The Mack, to which I still listen to " I choose you", today.
Great video, your channel is a godsend
Glad you think so!
Hello WBPTV, My name is Gemi Taylor...I played guitar with Willie Hutch for many years...from 1973 to 1977...then 1980 to 1987...and Feb. 2005
Yes, Mr. WILLIE Hutch was the most Underrated Singer, Producer, Musician, Writer. I had no idea, That he written Songs for The Jackson Five. Mr. WILLIE was just a Multi-talented Person, Who really didn't received the Credit he DESERVED. Great Video 👍👍👍👍👍
Always here for the interesting videos from WBPTV. 👍
Another great history lesson . Thanks for that
Willie Hutch had one of the most unique voices of all times standing with greats like Sam Cook, Bob Seager,Tarence Trent Darby, Marvin Gaye.
HE GRADUATED THE YEAR I WAS BORN, I KNEW THERE WAS SOMETHING I LIKED ABOUT THIS GUY, REST IN PEACE MR.WILLIE HUTCH !!!!
One of the greatest singers, producers, and writers in the music business. I'm so happy my parents educated me about his contribution to the entertainment business. Mr. Hutch did the score and soundtracks of the movies in the 70s. His music is timeless and his flowers must be given to him for his outstanding work. R.I.P and we love you forever. 💐 💐 💐
I love ," slick"! Mr.Hutch performed it on SOUL TRAIN. 😂, I REMEMBER Actor Dick Anthony Williams as Pretty Tony was speaking in the hair salon over it playing in the background!
I play his CD the best of Willie hutjch at work in early 2000 everyone wanted to listen it a lot..young and old
I love the song "I Choose You, Baby" from the movie "The Mack" when Goldie is in bed with his woman and he's macking those player's lines " Baby I can give you the world, I can give you jewelry, furs anything you want" and that song is playing in the background.

Willie’s voice was very different from most singers…His voice had a raspy pure soulful sound witch catch’s your attention and made you listen deeper than normal…He will go through time as one of those who didn’t get the props he should have . His music reminds me of people like Frankie Beverly music never gets old…one of my best artists…Rest n peace my Brother.
I live in the UK and I've been a fan of Willie Hutch for many years. My favourite of his is 'I Like Everything About You'. Hutch is much sampled and should get the acknowledged he deserves 👏🏽👏🏽
Great video, as always. ❤
Memphis 10 got much love for the Late Great Willie Hutch…Mphs hit that like button to show Support.
Yes, you cannot grow up in Memphis and not know bout HUTCH!….Much love 🤍🤍🤍🤍
The GREAT Willie Hutch, is probably the MOST unsung of all the producer, arrangers, writers, and artists on the Motown label. His contributions to 60's and 70's r&b should rank among the most celebrated musical individuals that created a certain sound. I have been and will continue to be, a huge fan of Mr. Willie Mckenley Hutchison.
Just can't wait "counting the minutes hours and seconds "" we need of the great SAM DEES PLEASE
From what I can remember The Mack movie score or music sound track put him on the map. The radio, night clubs, house parties or riding in someone's car blasting it on a 8track,he was definitely putting songs out back to back. 50 years later his music still out shines anything call music today. Love me some Willie Hutch. 🎉🎉🎉
I Can't wait to see it
Willie Hutch was so underrated! Moreover, many people knew and loves his music but just didn’t know who he was..However, I have many favorites but I love”give me some of that good ole love and the theme from the Mack!! “Listen to me everybody, while I tell you a story about the Mack…Thanks for the story..

A very excellent well organized documentary on soul music legend, Willie Hutch
I love Willie Hutch! I still play his music.
You missed "I Chose You". I loved all his work especially on the "Mack" soundtrack.
He’s a legend that’s been under rated. Also he’s my dad’s cousin. I met him in 1976. I’m trying to reach out and contact some of his/our relatives
Mr. Hutch was truly a special music man . I thought that you would have mentioned my favorite song by him named " Party Down!" That's OK, I did. Keep up the great work. Peace 10:25
I'm setting my alarm NOW!!!!
My comments are respectful but I have to say how disappointed I am that you just glossed over his Album for The Mack movie. This is the soundtrack that made him known and famous in the 70s. I Choose You, Brothers Gonna Work it Out was heavily played in our black community. Its nice knowing that he worked with The 5th Dimension and of course The hits with the Jackson 5 but I'd never heard any of his songs for the Dimensions and I was a fan. So please showcase his music from the movie the Mack. This is why my friends and I came to know and love Willie Hutch.
Oh wow I didn't know he was the song creator on the movie The Mack 😮. I choose you was everything. I love that original version and the remade version with Outkast.
And you know it 🎶!!! Brothers Gonna. Work It Out was a HUGE HUGE HIT in Black America!
The way we were is my favorite hutch song
I Choose you, has got to be his best song ever. It's a jewel of the 70's R&B scene. Wonderful song.
Willie Hutch was the man!! I play him to this day. My favorite Song is "Brothas gonna Work it out"
He also wrote a song called "Long Live Soul Music" for the Spinners in 1981
Would love to see a feature on Louisville Kentucky native Prince Phillip Mitchell
Great songwriter and performer
Who were the artists that he produced? I never heard of him. Wait. Are you talking about the producer for HI FI RECORDS?! AL GREEN, ANN PEEBLES, SYL JOHNSON, ETC??????? Well, no, that's Willie Mitchell!!!!!!😂😂 0:17
His claim to fame is writing Mel & Tim’s “starting all over again” Google him
He was the second voice on Don Covay’s “I was checking out …”
@@michaells1207 I was just thinking about Don Convay! Underrated and unknown
@@MD-DLive Don Covay very much unsung
Phillip Michell is still with us
I choose you was probably one his biggest hits and most sample song.
He Also Saing With A Group Called The The Pockets Called Come Go With Me,I Love That Song,If You HEAR It Now You Couldn't Sit Down.
Wow you stirred up a group and a song that was fire. Thank you 😊😊😊.
His nephew is rapper Cold 187um from the group Above the Law.
Wow
I Want To Be Where You Are is my absolute favorite His version
My favorite Willie Hutch songs is 1 Brothers gonna work it out 2. Inside you 3. The Glow. I love the song Brothers gonna work it out. Because I can the intro on my Acoustic guitar and it is been sampled a lot
Thank you for giving me an update on Willie Hutch. Could you do a video on Clifton Davis who starred in "That's my momma," and also wrote the hit song " Never Can Say Goodbye?"
Yes in deed grew up on all his songs. ❤
Actually, according to my research, it was Ivy Joe Hunter and Mickey Stevenson who wrote "Just Another Lonely Night".
My favorite song was I Choose You from the Movie Yhe Mack and the theme from Foxy Brown.

Willie Hutch is stil one of my favorite Artist, and underrated. I was exposed to his music when I was 14. I dug: Bother we Can Work it Out and I Chose You from Mack soundtrack. From Concert in Blues: Come on Home and his version of Stormy Weather, just to name a few. You can hear the piano intro of. "Come on Home" on Ghostface Killa featuring Ne Yo " Back Like That" track.
