Never have heard the expression "doing around," but I love learning new southern terms! You (y'all) have a way of combining words in new ways that are charming and useful! [smiling ear to ear while typing this]
I’m from Ohio and I live in Indiana, I’ve never heard that expression! We say “running around.” I always have smoked sausage, teriyaki sauce, brown Minute Rice, frozen broccoli and water chestnuts. I can make stir fry on nights I get home from work and want a good, quick meal. My husband loves it! My mom sent me 10 packets of chili powder from Cincinnati! It’s the same brand she’s used since I was a little girl and the only one I use! I’ve already made one pot of chili and it’s not even officially fall yet!
Hi Renee! You can also buy fresh ginger and just stick it in a plastic ziploc bag and freeze it. When you are ready to use it just simply use a grater and grate the amount you need. It works great and lasts a very long time!
I grate or purée before freezing it in a reusable ziploc bag. Spread it as flat and as thin as possible. Once it’s frozen I can break off as much as I need. I do the same with fresh a turmeric root.
All that room for all those spices, your kitchen is a dream! I agree 100% on the vanilla extract, I also love getting a few bottles of it whenever we go to Mexico on vacation. Their vanilla extract is amazing.
I freeze herbs and veggies in ziplocks to use as needed. I won't go through them fast enough and hate to waste anything. So i dice all the veggies, and they are ready to go to add to anything i make 😊
I used to make my own mayonnaise and salad dressings. We lived in the country, it was hard to find things in the little bitty markets, so I found recipes and made my own. I also was not working so had time to experiment with cooking from scratch. Such a difference in quality and taste. Love your videos.
Staples in my house are Dale's Marinade, Lawry's Season Salt, Montreal Steak Seasoning, Tahitian Double Strength Vanilla, Powdered Buttermilk, Zatarins Red Beans and Rice and Bisquick Mix.
Up North we be "puttering around".! Lol Love our differences! My staples pretty similar , but thank you for sharing some new ones! Very much into your Asian suggested sauces! I have one for you, if you like General Tso chicken! Iron Chef , General Tso sauce and glaze! Might be like your sweet chili sauce, though! So nice talking with you about cooking staples! Keep on cookin!
Randy chooses such considerate gifts 🌟 That salt dish is so pretty and just the thing for someone who loves to cook. So Sweet. I’ll be sure to watch for your pan fried bean recipe Renee. Have a great week 🥰
Hi Renee, first of all I'm so glad to hear that your dad is doing well, and has got some new bedding etc. That makes everyone feel better, I love fresh bedding!💜 Adorable earrings just love the style, and those glasses, wow they're classy and look so elegant. Love to you all, and lovely to see you smiling! 💖🌞😊
I use Wick Fowler's 2 Alarm Chili mix, which is sold in the same area. It makes the best chili and you adjust the spices. We make frito pie, chili over brown rice, chili mixed with elbow macaroni, chilli on a salad to make a taco salad, chili with saltines, or chili over grilled beef hot dogs. We usually have small dishes of jalapenos, shredded cheese, green onions, and mustard to add flavor. You purchase the red box and an 8oz. od unsalted or low salt tomato sauce and add to the ground meat. I would never use anything else because of additives or etc. Let me know if you need a box.
Great video, Renee! So many handy tips to add flavor to meals. Definitely will look for the Garden Gourmet pastes. Looking forward to seeing your dressing recipes in upcoming newsletters. Thanks for all the great tips.
You can put garlic in the freezer Cut it fine with a blender put it in a tuppeware container and when you need it, take it out of the freezer cut a bit with a knife and put it back ( dont let it melt completly Same for ginger
Renee, Thank you for the 'kitchen tour'. I am glad to know, we have some items in common. I keep my +GF+ breadcrumbs in the refridge - I don't use them too often! I use (again, GF) oats in my meatloaf.
All great suggestions, Renee. Frank's Sauce has put a host of great flavours in the past year and I already have 3 more than the original because I put it on everything 🤣🤣🤣 I loved the video Renee. Have yourself a good weekend🤗
I make my own vanilla extract. I buy the vanilla beans and I use an inexpensive vodka. I can control the intensity of the flavor by adding as much vanilla bean as I like.
@@diliaortiz1939 oh yes! It all depends on the vanilla beans you use. I use the Madagascar vanilla beans, and if you do it get the Extract Exclusive Grade, it’s really good. I also put it in amber bottles, this helps to keep the extract fresh. If you use clear glass just make sure it is stored in a dark place. Once you have the alcohol and beans in the bottle you store it in a dark spot and gently rotate it every week for at least 6 months before you start using it. I made a lot of the for Christmas a few years back with the instructions and the recipe for my mama’s chocolate meringue pie as gifts. It went over really well. And like a sourdough starter kit, everyone except for one cousin is making their own vanilla extract.
Hi Renee I agree with you on the broccoli cheddar rice but....my best flavor by them is the Cilantro Lime rice!!! The cilantro rice is always always out. Except at Vons where I live. If it's not rice-a-roni don't buy it. The cilantro rice booted my cheddar broccoli rice to 2nd place runner up. You gave me some great ideas to add to my shopping list Thank you. You are such an amazing person!!
I also make my own salad dressings except for Blue cheese. The only prepared food I buy is Rice a Roni and frozen bean and cheese burritos. Most of the time I make up a little jar of taco seasoning. Love your food videos.
Here in Idaho, they serve their hamburgers and sandwiches without any condiments on them. We moved here from another state, and we thought that was so weird. We have to ask for condiments to be brought out to the table every time we order a sandwich. I guess that's a thing; eating a dry sandwich. 😂 P.S. Most chain restaurants don't do this, just the mom and pop's.
Fun video Renee. Will be trying a couple things. Thanks for sharing. I have tossed all Soy Sauce and use Bragg’s Liquid Aminos/Coconut Aminos instead. Healthy choice as soy-free and less sodium.
I am not familiar with that term but I also grew up in Indiana...Lol! I gotta say I share your love of the sesame oil! I like to make a ramen noodle salad with it...YUM!
This was a great video! And I want to move in with you for all of the good eats you and Randy make! This makes me realize I need to step up my cooking game. I see you use Hellman’s mayo. I always have also but they now use GMO so I just switched to Dukes. Not sure if it tastes the same yet. On a side note, i was sorry to hear your Momma has been sick. I am praying for her.
Hurricane arriving tomorrow here in Nova Scotia.. We have been preparing for ten days .. usual this time of year. We stock special foods, etc for storms. Keep coming with interesting topic.
I have been reading on Kentucky history lately as my daughter lives in Franklin. You know it's hard to find travel books on Kentucky. The libraries have almost NO books on Kentucky !
Hi Renee, not related to faves but just curious, are you still intermittent fasting? I thought I remembered that from some time ago but have not heard you talking about it at all.
Love the video like seeing what you have in the US that we don’t have here in the UK Get a bit fed up sometimes when I think why don’t we have that… Recently my son was in the US as he bought a holiday home over there, so I got him to bring back some Slap ya Mama, Dash and coffee mate French vanilla .. He got stopped at customs but after a lot of explaining he was aloud to keep it…😂
I was looking for soy paste in my store recently and could not find it. I used your link and also going to get the chipotle mayo, looks like something my husband would enjoy too. Thank you, great content!! Oh, and i love the gardein (thats prob spelled wrong) herbs too, i always keep the same 3 in my frig.
Renee, it's time for my first meal as like you, I Intermittent Fast. This video has made me so hungry lol!! I grilled some chicken breasts , marinating first in a ginger soy marinade. I LOVE teriyaki sauce with pineapple and will drizzle some of the sauce with the fresh pineapple pieces next to a small amount of jasmine rice, and ny delicious juicy chicken breast. Unsweetened ice tea to top off....oh boy I'm drooling just thinkin ' about it. I plan to look for 4 items you have spoken about!! Thank you for all your hard work Renee! 🍍🥦🧄🥗🥣🍗

Just a bit of info from the test kitchen, they say not to waste your money on real vanilla extract the test proves there is no difference in taste in cooking.
It's pronounced wuster sauce, same as the town which is in the shire and the last syllable is only pronounced when speaking of the shire though all are spelled the same. I'm from there. It's confusing true. Drives us crazy that the sauce is so offen pronounced incorrectly!
@@WelcomeToMyCurlsLOL it'd be way easier if people didn't keep saying the shire part, which should be silent. Lots of things sound different than how they're spelled over here for some reason!
My grandfather was born in England and that's how he said it, too. (Yes, that easy!) Like you're saying "wood" but instead of the "d" you tack on "stah" or "str" at the end. Two syllables!
