That is great they improved that trail! Its always nice to see that it provides access for people in wheelchairs as well! Aww,.. yup rain starts right when you get going..isn't that the way it works! Thank you for taking us on this beautiful railway trail!😊
Thanks very much for watching and to be honest we knew it was going to rain, just wish it had waited a bit longer before it did lol. A real nice easy walk and one we both enjoyed, cheers Alan
A nice easy walk Joanne with the option of the bus back if the weather turns nasty (which it did for us when we left the café), nice and flat and only 3 miles one way, we both enjoyed it. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Cool video and beautiful area. These rail trails are awesome. It is fun to see more and more of these in our country as well. Fun to see the old depots too. Glad the tunnel was open for you. So awesome. It looked a wee bit rainy! Glad it wasn't too bad for you. Thanks for the tour. Have a great day.
We were in the area that day and knew was was coming and heavy rain for the afternoon, so this was the perfect walk for us, nice and short, nice and flat with the option of the bus back if the weather turned nasty, which it did lol. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
It was but would be so much better in the warmer and drier months, so we will be back to do it again in the summer. Thanks so much for stopping by, cheers Alan
Great to see this fabulous path that appeals to such a wide variety of walkers , also nice and flat so ideal for anyone with wheels ... personally it's great to see any path that accomodates wheel chairs but also good for pushchairs & cyclists and this I believe is the route for the local parkrun. You have shown it's benefits perfectly with great views of the river, a choice of coffee shop or pub at the end plus bonus of bus back if desired. Brilliant video to show the lake district isn't just about the high fells but something for everyone. Well done, another fab watch 😊
So true Christine and we knew rain was coming so this seemed the ideal walk for us to take and to be fair the rain was only patchy on the way there but thank goodness we got the bus back at it absolutely hammered down on the way back, would not have enjoyed being out in that lol. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Glad you enjoyed it and appreciate you stopping by. A short walk, nice and flat, with the option of the bus back, the perfect walk for Mrs Metalman, cheers Alan
We knew it was coming so this was the perfect response, nice and short, nice and flat with the option of the bus back if it got too bad, which it did lol. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Hi Alan and Mrs Metalman! Nice hike along the old train route. Probably felt good to walk on pavement as opposed to the usual dirt and rocky trails. Very lovely conversion, and so relaxing to be right along the river. Wonderful bridges, tunnels and information boards. Great that you could take a bus back to the start… and not end up thoroughly soaking wet 😆💦💦 Have a great upcoming week! ~ Jennifer
Glad you enjoyed it Jen and you are so true, we had initially decided to walk the same way back but the forecast said heavy rain in the afternoon, so we jumped on the bus back and so pleased we did, as the heavens opened lol. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
What an awesome tunnel! What a beautiful place to visit, with all kinds of things to do there. Interesting! Thank you for sharing! Stay safe, and God Bless! 🕊
Thanks for visiting Kat and we knew the rain was coming in, so this was the perfect walk for us, nice and short, real flat but still very scenic too. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Believe this trail is also great for biking. The trail go through the wonderful river, it’s so pretty area for walking. The bridge looks awesome . Love this wonderful place. Thank you for fabulous sharing Alan, have a wonderful weekend 😍❤️👍👍🤗
Totally agree and we did see a few bikers, as well as joggers, which is perfect for them too. Just wish it had been better weather so we still enjoyed it but next time we will wait till the summer to do this walk again. Thanks very much for stopping by, cheers Alan
Nice walking beside the water, so peaceful, I love that💜 The waterfall is beautiful too No worries, soon all the leaves will be on the trees and they will be flowering so pretty, and hopefully it will warm up too; cool tunnel💜 Cheers Alan
It was a perfect walk for Mrs Metalman as we knew rain was heading our way. It was short, flat and the option of the bus back, which we were so pleased we too, as the heavens really opened. Thanks very much for stopping by, cheers Alan
Thanks David, real nice of you and this was a perfect walk for Mrs Metalman, nice and short and nice and flat too but with some real nice views. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Thanks for stopping by John and a real nice new walk for us nice and easy but with rain in the air, just what we needed. Happy Easter to you all, cheers Alan
Another smashing video Alan. We walked that one about 10 years ago and loved it. We have been going through your videos every chance we get and have thoroughly enjoyed every one. Very informative and down to earth. All the very best to you and Mrs Metalman. Keep them coming.
Glad you enjoyed it and that's real good of you. First time for us and it was perfect for Mrs Metalman who was feeling off colour, so the bus back was a real bonus for her. Cheers Alan
What a great walk, love these sort of old railway trails, flat but with stunning surrounding views! Sunshine and showers too, has been like that on and off for the last few weeks! Looked a really well maintained route👍
Glad you enjoyed it and with real bad weather forecasted this seemed a perfect opportunity to give this new route a try and we both enjoyed it. Appricate you stopping by, cheers Alan
Glad you enjoyed it Rachel and thanks for watching. We knew we were going to be in Keswick all day and also knew it was going to be damp and misty, so this seemed the perfect option, cheers Alan
What a great walk Alan, really love the tunnels. I agree that it would have been a scenic train route. The way moss grows on those rocks is very cool as well.
Glad you enjoyed it and real nice of you to stop by. Just a new route opened up so we thought we would try it and real pleased we did, turned out real nice, cheers Alan
They've made a good job of the Railway Walk after the devastation of Storm Desmond 😮 We usually start at Threlkeld...then there's lots of choices for a brew in Keswick 👌 It's a lovely half days walk. Hope Mrs Metalman's eye is better. Thanks for sharing, cheers Alistair 👍
Yes she is fine now, thank you, although off colour the whole time we were there unfortunately. Another first for us on the walk and another we will do again but on a warmer, drier day. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Hey Alan, they have done a great job of making good use of the old railway line and have made it interesting to walk as you demonstrated well as usual. The walk is great for everyone with all abilities which I think is great. It is also a nice walk if it is terrible weather there and you do not want to get muddy but still get out. Always noce to see Mrs M out with you. Thanks for sharing, take care
Glad you enjoyed it Steve and we knew the rain was coming, so that is exactly why we did it then, rather than the summer, which we had initially intended to do it. It's was also great you had the option of the bus back, which I am so pleased we took, as the heavens really opened on the way back. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
I love railway walks. There was a line from Winchester to Alton in Hampshire. Part of it has been turned into a trail from Kingsworthy to New Alresford.. and the rest has been preserved and turned into a heritage steam railway for tourists called the Watercress Line. It was so named as it mainly used to carry watercress to the busy London hotels. This Keswick trail is full of surprises.. love the tunnel !! Imagine the amout of work that went into building that original line ! Cheers Alan bro ! I hope Mrs. Metalman's eye gets well soon !
Thanks for watching Jim and they have done a great job with this walk, especially after the devastation cause to it by Storm Desmond and they then had to close a lot of it, just after they had initially opened it. A sort walk and a very flay walk but both of those suited Mrs Metalman lol, cheers Alan
First time we have walked it but perfect for the day we were there as it was forecast early morning showers and then heavy rain all afternoon. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
yes, it was a shame about the rain coming on but we made the best of it and still enjoyed the walk, so will be back again in the summer months. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
We think old train areas are super fun to explore! The history and at times that things along the railroad bed are amazing to see! What a fantastic trek along the water! What a great area for all skill levels to enjoy!
I totally agree, perfect for anyone and any ability to be fair, a real nice steady walk. Real pleased we got the bus back as the heavens opened on the way back lol. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Oh I bet that was a very scenic train ride back in the day. Crosses some very beautiful streams and the tunnels are so cool. Hope Mrs Metalman gets better soon. Eye infections can be irritating. Thank you for bringing us along and I’ll see ya on the next one. 👍👍
Yes, she had a bug all week, which was a shame and then she gave it to me, so I have had the same one all week :o(. Although the walk was short, flat and very nice, man it must have been a great steam train ride back in the day. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Ah thanks for that and appreciate you watching too. Must be honest I would have preferred a pint at the pub in the village but we tossed a coin and I lost lol. Cheers Alan
oh no! rain begins when you start the walk! it looks like a beautiful place to explore and lovely sound of the waterfall too :) definitely if it was warmer you could find lots of nice spots to have a picnic :)
We had intended to do this walk for the first time in the summer but as we were there and we knew rain was coming, we thought it may be the perfect time to do it, which as it turned out it was. The rain was very patchy on the way there but thank goodness we got the bus back as it hammered down all the way back. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
What a lovely trail you two ventured on. Loved the stream all along the way, beautiful and quiet and led to such a cute village. Dave and I would love this walk. Very nice, thank you for taking us along. 😎😊
It was a nice little and very flat walk, which was ideal for Mrs Metalman as so no longer likes to do the High Fells anymore. Shame about the rain but we still made the most of it and enjoyed the day, thanks so much for stopping by, cheers Alan
I haven't been on too many trains, but all the old train routes that have been turned to regular trails are always so beautiful. They always seem to go through some of the most beautiful spots!
Couldn't agree more, despite the weather, which we knew was coming, so this was the perfect walk for us, really enjoyed it. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Hi Alan 👋 !! Thanks for this, very good, I like the look of this route 🏔️ 🚶♂️ 🌧️ 👍 ! We visit the Lake District a couple of times a year, so we will give this a go next time we come ✅! Greetings from Scotland 🏴! Cheers, Don 🙋♂️ !
Thanks for much for watching Don and real good of you to leave a comment as well, very much appreciated. We knew the rain was coming so this was the perfect short and flat walk with the option of getting the bus back too, which as I so pleased we did, as it hammered down on the way back. I hope you have better weather than us when you come down, cheers Alan
This was really cool to see. We have been getting into trains lately and seeing the railway was awesome, lovely walk right next to the river! Beautiful :)
Thanks for visiting, real good of you and these old railway lines are getting turned into walking trails quite a lot now and a good way to use them too I think, cheers Alan
I’ve always been a bit sceptical about “manicured” trails in the Lake District, but this looks wonderful. And I really don’t see how even the most die-hard fell walker could really complain about it! You suggested it to me when we met on Little Mel, as something my Mrs with her arthritic knee might cope with, and I think you’re right! Really useful video, and really well done, as ever. We were up there again this weekend, but shopping for property north of the National Park. With a bit of luck we’ll be living 20 minutes from Keswick by the end of the year!
Oh nice one, that would be my dream living 20 minutes from Keswick. It was a real nice walk for anyone and everyone really. perfectly flat and on a nice dry and warm day a lot of places to stop and sit down and you could take as long as you wanted, with the option of the bus back too. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Looks a great little walk Alan wish I had known about it when we were in Keswick on Good Friday took my wife up Latrigg a bit much for her. Thanks for taking us along.👍👍
This would have been idea but in the back pocket for next time Mrs Metalman does not like the high walks now, so this was perfect for her. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Lovely hike Alan, any time of the year. Pretty sights along the river, especially the stone bridge. The remade tunnel was quite pretty as well. Thanks for sharing this pretty hike with us.
Glad you enjoyed it and real good of you to stop by, not the weather we were hoping for but we made the most of it and still had a great day out, take care, cheers Alan
Hi Alan finally getting some service so I’m catching up on all my video watching time. You’ve had some good adventures and some nice places to stay. And now I’m tuning in for this hike💜
Tanks Anthony and she is fine now, only problem is I caught the same bug and on day 7 of trying to get rid of it 😡 . Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Haha, true and we knew it was coming so that's why we picked this route to be honest. To be fair we both did enjoy it and thank goodness we got the bus back as it hammered it down lol. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Growing up in keswick in the sixties, the trains were still running. Those small square openings in the tunnel were much taller when the line was still in place. They were to allow workers protection when trains were coming. It took some doing as kids, to pluck up courage to get into the step in booths before a train arrived 😳
Wow, I'll bet and I remember hearing a while ago there was talk about running a steam train from Keswick to Penrith but not heard anything since. Must admit we both enjoyed the walk, along the old lines, despite the weather and getting a right soaking when we got back to Keswick lol. Thanks very much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment, real good of you and very much appreciated, cheers Alan
Cracking little walk/trail Alan, didn’t know about it👍, definitely is nice looking scenery, in the summer will look even better, a plus is that you won’t get up the eyes in mud, unlike most lakes walks 🤣, good little coffee shop at the end too👌, atb Mick 👍
Perfect for the Mrs Metalman who was not feeling the best and with rain on the way, she did not fancy getting muddy as well as wet lol. Great call on getting the bus back as the heavens opened on the way back to Keswick. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
I loved that walk Alan. Such beautiful views, I love rivers like that where you can cross bridges and get a different perspective. Can you call the guys that tarmaced that path and get them to negotiate some deals with the English Councils... looked fantastic. Slightly disappointed you didn't show us your coffee... I bet you had a slice of cake too 😅
Haha you are right and it was so nice I actually took another bit back to our lodge with me too lol. Unfortunately I lot a couple of clips, either that or I was not filming when I thought I was (too busy stuffing my face) and the cake eating was one of them. Yes they made a good job of the path, they need to get them on to all the roads in the UK. Thanks very much for watching Lee, cheers Alan
Threkeld is such a lovely little village. Was there when I climbed Blencathra. Went to that coffee shop and took the bus back to Keswick. Did not know about the railway line walk. Will defo do it in summer. Thank you.
First time for us Linda and we will do it again but in the warmer and dryer weather. The bus back is always an option if the weather does change too. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
After a perfect weather day on day 1 the next 4 days were all like this Andy, rain and, mist but we did make the most of it and in the lakes you had to lol. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Very nice review of a great little walk that's a rarity. It's suitable for prams, wheelchairs, cyclists, etc. Not done this walk since it was reopened, but it's looking really good now. A really good overview, packed with information as always. Cheers, Alan. Keep 'em coming.
Glad you enjoyed it Mal and as we knew the rain was going to be on and off all day, we thought this would be the perfect time to try this new walk and to be fair, despite the weather, we really enjoyed it. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Yes and in a way it would have been nice to reopen the old line and put a steam train on it running from Keswick to Penrith, not that would be a tourist attraction. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Alright Alan mate , looks a nice easy walk with some nice scenery and river views , woodlands , nature, hope you've had a nice Easter mate , all the best 👍
Thanks, you too and it was a real steady walk, which suited us both great as we knew the bad weather was on the way, turned out we both enjoyed it too. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
That tunnel is in great shape. One of the best maintained trails I have seen. Nice to see the info posts. convenient coffee shop. Saw you on another channel video on a hiking meet up. Fun times. Cheers and like
Glad you enjoyed it! and it is always nice to meet up with fellow youtubers, always enjoy it and every one I have met so far has been brilliant. I loved that old tunnel, must have took some digging out back in the day! Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Love that walk Alan although we haven’t done it for a few years now. Last time was with our mates for my 60th and we got soaked through to the skin😃. Looks like it’s been very much improved since then. The second bridge was down after Desmond when we went last But all in all a great little walk that 👍👍👍
All open all the way now and funny you should mention about getting soaked, as we made a brilliant decision to get the bus back as as soon as we got on the heavens opened and it was torrential all the way back to Keswick lol. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Another belter Al, very relaxing, think I did most of that route a few years ago when I cycled the coast to coast. Came through whinlatter also lovely scenery!! All the best
Yes we saw the coast 2 cost cycle sights on the route and this was a real chilled out walk, especially as we knew the rain was on the way, another reason we got the bus back lol. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
I'm back again Alan and I really liked the look of this. We love old railway line walks and this must have been so beautiful to get the train along here at that time. Gorgeous place, and that bobbin mill tunnel was lovely that they reopened in 2020 . Its great that they have benches and information boards along the path too. The little waterfall was lovely and those wooden wigwams were in a stunning spot, would definitely like to stay there and the village where the coffee shop was looked so pretty Hope Mrs Ms eye is better now, that was beautiful :) ~ Anna
Yes, thank you, she is fighting fit now but I have the same bug she has now and been unwell for 7 days now and not been able to get out :o(. It was really good what they had done with this walk but I could not imagine what stream train between Keswick and Penrith would have been like, what an attraction. Thanks very much for watching Anna, cheers Alan
Looks to be a fab relaxed walk, really enjoy walking along old railway lines but ofthen there isn't much to see and they are not tarmaced like that. Lots of cool info on this trail. Thanks for sharing would be great to do in the summer. M&T
Glad you enjoyed it and appreciate you watching. We had intended to do out first walk of this new trail in the summer too but we were in Keswick and new rain was on the way, so this was the idea walk with it being nice and flat and quite sort too, especially with the option of the bus ride back to Keswick, cheers Alan
Hi Alan and happy Easter to you and your family. Such a interesting trail for walking with a lot of bridges and tunnels. I'm sorry that it started raining right at the beginning of your walking, but I think you still enjoyed your walk. Take care and see you soon. Sretana and Zac. 👍👍
Thanks very much for watching and a very Happy Easter to you both too :o). We knew the rain was coming, which is why we did this short flat walk but we both enjoyed it, we always make the most of the day, cheers Alan
Yes, real nice to see life back on the trail there and a real nice local walk for the people of Keswick, we really enjoyed it. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
That’s a lovely walk Alan. I did it from Keswick once but I never went all the way to Threlkeld so it was nice to see the latter part. Will have to do the complete route sometime.
We started it last December and got almost half way but it started to get dark and I was unsure about the bus times at the time, so we were determined to do it this time despite the rain lol. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Hey Alan Happy Easter Monday 🐣 hope you have had a lovely weekend! Firstly love your thumbnail for this one it’s quite striking! As Nick may have mentioned we have done parts of this to get into Keswick and as part of a few circular walks but it was nice to see you go much further to Thelkeld (we too are not sure how it is pronounced) what a lovely walk even in the on off rain and on off sunshine! Hope Mrs Metalman’s eye got better! Have a good week Take care 💞👍
Thank you! You both too! She is fine now (thank you) but I got the bug she had when we were away and on day 7 now and not been able to get out all week😠. It seems to be every 3 months she gets bug and then I get it the following week - totally weird. We knew rain was on the way so this seemed the prefect walk and a great opportunity to try it for the first time too. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Definitely a walk well worth doing but in good weather it would be packed. Love the bridges and the old railway engineering, how they did it with basic tools always amazes me. Great information boards but I'm absolutely with you on the people who deface them, idiots. Glad you got your coffee and trust Linda's eye is better now. Regards, Ashley
Yes, she was not the best all week and now I have the same bug (day 7) and not been able to get out despite there being some cracking days 😡. We have been meaning to try this walk for a while now and as we new bad weather was coming, thought this would be the perfect opportunity, which it was, really enjoyed it. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Yes we knew the rain was going to be on and off all day, so this seemed a prefect opportunity to try this new walk and not go too far or too high. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Idea for the kids, especially with the promise of a café stop at the end and also a bus ride back into Keswick. On a warm sunny day plenty of places to stop and chill next to the river too, must admit I enjoyed it more than I was expecting too. Real nice of you to drop by, cheers Alan
Love this section Alan. We have walked a large part of it dozens of times as a route to get from Bed and Breakfasts at the top of the hill down into Keswick centre. Its nice to see it is now fully repaired as a large section was destroyed in the floods a few years back. The signage looks greatly improved too. Its our preferred route when doing a nice gentle circular of Latrigg. Park for free by the Spar Garage on the road going into Keswick, pick up the railway line behind the Garage and walking towards Threkeld and climbing the Eastern Slope of Latrigg, drop down the Western slope to the Railway Station, Leisure Centre where you parked and then back to the car. Hope Mrs Metalmans eye infection is ok now, the rain didn’t dampen your spirits, how was the coffee shop, we have never visited that?
She was off colour all week and when I fell on wet rocks and bashed my knee we ended up coming home a night early but we still enjoyed out time there. Real nice walk there now, first time we have done it but would do it again but in the warmer and drier weather. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Real enjoyed coming along with you both, a most pleasant experience. This is also going on my to do list in May and I’ll most certainly be having coffee at Threlkeld and catching the bus back. Only one slight mistake Alan, you said the photo of the station was taken in 2014? Believe you meant to say 1914. Can’t stand picky people who point out mistakes 🤣🤣😁 Cheers Mike 👍
Funny enough I only notice that when I posed it and watched it for the first time, could not believe I said it was it was clear as day 1914 on the poster. Not the best of weather but a nice gentle stroll, ideal on a day like we had. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Thought the Mrs would enjoy that Alan................you are right in the summer its beautiful, with plenty of cool shady spots........(think I said before there is a cut off point opposite a brick shelter about 2miles in that goes up to Latrigg, where you seen that van going, might be a tad steep for your lass mind but its a good route for you)......well documented video Alan. Hello to the Mrs........ATB......Stu/Wendy...👌👍.
Thanks very much for watching and a Happy Easter to you both! Oh she loved this walk, right up her street and to be honest with bad weather forecasted to hit us suited me too lol, cheers Alan
It is such a nice little village but unfortunately the weather did not show it ot the walk off to it's best advantage. I sure hope you make it over to the UK one day and take a visit to Threlkeld. Real good of you to stop by and take the time to leave a comment, very much appreciated, cheers Alan
Such a nice trail to hike or bike. Very cool tunnel too. I would love to ride this trail but unfortunately it's not anywhere near where I am in Florida.
Maybe one day! It was our first walk on this new trail and we picked it on purpose, as we knew the rain was on the way, it was short and we could get the bus back id needed and man did we need it, as the heavens really opened on the way back. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
We did this walk the day after doing Helvellyn from Swirls car park. The old legs needed a fairly level walk after that! Really enjoyed it, lots to see and a good coffee at Threlkeld....and a beer in the Keswick Hotel after walking back!
Oh nice one and I remember meeting a fellow youtuber about 4 years ago and going up Helvellyn from Swirls and then driving to Grasmere for a wildcamp at Easedale Tarn afterwards, feeling a bit sore when we got there. The next mornings hike up Blencathra turned out to be Hallin Fell instead as I was still very sore but I did learn late I had a hernia, so did not do too bad. This must have been a perfect rehab walk for you and although Mrs Metalman loved coffee and cake at Threlkeld, I preferred the ping back at Keswick lol. Thanks very much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment, real good of you and very much appreciated, cheers Alan
0:38 Never fails ....... 5:20 MRS. METALMAN !!!!! ...... WAIT UP !!!!! ....... 6:45 Just look at that green ...... 11:35 I'm gonna join you for a coffee.
Well you would have been more than welcome and Mrs Metalman was setting a real good pace - I should never have told her about the café and the pub at the end lol. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Haha, to be honest that sign was about 200 yards from the car but a first ever walk on this new trail that used to be the old railways line many years ago. Only short and very flat but it made a mice change to be fair. Real good of you to watch, cheers Alan
Yes, it was such a nice easy path to follow and suitable for anyone of any age. Just a shame about the weather but that is one thing we cannot control lol. Thanks for stopping by Max, cheers Alan
Looks a nice accessible route for everyone this one. Shame it was a little rainy looks like you made a good decision to get the bus back. Looks nice a flat though and lots of info along the route. Shame as well someone scratched out the queens face on the info board.
It's a walk for anyone and everyone to be fair, perfectly flat and on a nice dry summers day, plenty of areas of shade and next to the cooling water too, we will give this another go in the summer. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Hi Alan, lovely to see you and Mrs. Metalman go hiking together. Beautiful footage, Mrs. Metalman walking into the tunnel. 3:24 This small cascade suggested you had quite rain prior to this hike?4:33 Alan, I am not familiar with this area. What are those little shed-ish buildings? 5:26 What's the lovely environment. Listening to the sounds of the river and the Bird chirping in the background. 6:45 At last, I am glad to see Mrs. Metalman had her treat at the cafe. Very enjoyable to listen to your documentation through the hike. Thank You and see you next time.
Yes, this used to be the old railway line running from Keswick to Penrish and those old stone buildings must have acted like a bud stop, offering shelter from the rain, something we found out on this walk, it did rain a lot lol. To be honest we knew it was going to rain, which is why we did this walk, nice and flat, nice and short with the option of the bus back if needed and we did need it in the end, as the heavens opened. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Thank so much and yes, it took all week but all good now, well that was until she gave it to me that was lol! Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Personally I would like to see the railway reopen but still it looks a good walk.. My grandfather drove trains on here he always told me it was his favourite railway .
Lovely walk Alan, easier than your usuals :) Nice to see that it's a world heritage site. Nicely signed too with all sorts of information. Pity about the rain, I don't blame you for taking the bus home. Great thumbnail - were you wearing shorts all the way? :) All the best, Rob
Yes, we knew rain was coming and Mrs Metalman was not feeling 100%, so thought this was a good option, especially with the option of the bus back if required, which it was, as it started to bucked down just as we got on the bus lol. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Haha, yes, I am a miles feet and inches man, the rest I do not understand lol. First time we have done this walk and really enjoyed it, despite the weather but I get what you mean regarding the views in the summer. Real nicer of you to watch and comment, very much appreciated, cheers Alan
Hi Alan, Guess I'm the only foreigner here? Stumbled upon you the other month and will call on the channel from time to time. I'm living in Minsk, Belarus, but been to St Petersburg lots of times. There one of the railway stations was turned into a trade centre and food court. What a nice accent you have. I'm guessing this is a norther one? Russian, my native language, has almost none left, so this variety English has still feels bewildering. Just in case, happy Easter to you! Mike
Thanks for watching Mike and Happy Easter to you too buddy and yes, we are from the North East of the UK. I get quite a few views from all over the world but I think you are only the second from Belarus :o)
That was a really nice trail, Alan! I liked the tunnels and all the bridges with the beautiful river views! So, a couple questions, did this used to be a passenger train line or supply train line? The next question is how far away you live from here? I look forward to seeing you come back here in the summertime to film it with all the greenery in bloom! Cool video, Alan, and thank you so much for sharing!
Yes it was an old steam passenger train line running up to Penrith, which is about 18 miles away. It's about 90 minutes from home for us and even though it is still a new trail, it was the first time we had done it. We only did it was we knew rain was on the way and it was real short with the option of the bus back, if the weather turned too bad, which it did, still we both enjoyed it and made a nice change from the high Fells. Real good of you to watch and take the time to leave a comment, cheers Alan
NOOOO 😂 my brain says I must put you right.. threlkeld locally pronounced threL-keld (slight emphasis on the L and Greta pronounced “Greeta” you’d have enjoyed the walk pre flood with all the original bridges there’s not much original infrastructure left now unfortunately
Yep a few people telling me I was wrong but also a few telling me I was right, so I am still confused lol. First time we had done that walk and even though it was not the best weather the walk itself was really nice. Thanks very much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment, real good of you, cheers Alan

Fab that one is going on my list 👍🙂
A nice easy walk Joanne with the option of the bus back if the weather turns nasty (which it did for us when we left the café), nice and flat and only 3 miles one way, we both enjoyed it. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
A very scenic walk. Love the river. Thank you for sharing, have a great weekend. (Like 122) 👍💯
Thank you! You too! Real good of you to stop by and a short walk, very flat but perfect for Mrs Metalman who was not feeling 100%, cheers Alan
Spectacular and such a beautiful trail, looks so serene. 👌👌
It was but would be so much better in the warmer and drier months, so we will be back to do it again in the summer. Thanks so much for stopping by, cheers Alan
@@AlanMETALMAN have a great Sunday bud 🙌🏻
There are some beautiful views, and the sounds of the river is peaceful too. A nice even path there Alan. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it and appreciate you stopping by. A short walk, nice and flat, with the option of the bus back, the perfect walk for Mrs Metalman, cheers Alan
That is a lovely walk to do in the rain. Beautiful place.
Nice walking beside the water, so peaceful, I love that💜 The waterfall is beautiful too
No worries, soon all the leaves will be on the trees and they will be flowering so pretty, and hopefully it will warm up too; cool tunnel💜 Cheers Alan
It was a perfect walk for Mrs Metalman as we knew rain was heading our way. It was short, flat and the option of the bus back, which we were so pleased we too, as the heavens really opened. Thanks very much for stopping by, cheers Alan
I really like your tourist reviews and gentle walks/ hikes.
Thanks David, real nice of you and this was a perfect walk for Mrs Metalman, nice and short and nice and flat too but with some real nice views. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
What a beautiful walk along the river and the tunnel was really cool.
Cheers Alan
Wonderful video nice sharing
Thank you so much 🙂
What a great walk, love these sort of old railway trails, flat but with stunning surrounding views!
Good afternoon, it’s nice to do a flat walk every now and again. I like these old dismantled railway trails, packed full of heritage and history. 😊
Just a new route opened up so we thought we would try it and real pleased we did, turned out real nice, cheers Alan
..and the creek is very lovely..
I really enjoyed keep on crossing it over and over again :O)
They've made a good job of the Railway Walk after the devastation of Storm Desmond 😮 We usually start at Threlkeld...then there's lots of choices for a brew in Keswick 👌
It's a lovely half days walk.
Oh my gosh this is a beautiful trail! Great video. So much green scenery!
Thank you very much! Only a short walk and a very flat on but a walk that Mrs Metalman really enjoyed. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Superb Alan it's a great la'al walk the tunnels fantastic great video mate
ATB Andy 😊
First time we have walked it but perfect for the day we were there as it was forecast early morning showers and then heavy rain all afternoon. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Looked like a nice hike even in the rain! Like that station they are turning into a hotel very unique👍🏼
yes, it was a shame about the rain coming on but we made the best of it and still enjoyed the walk, so will be back again in the summer months.
Threl - keld .👍👍👍 Thanks, looks like a nice walk for a summers evening (with a pint or two). Will have to try it.
Nice trail with some offbeat trails off the main drag. Cool tunnels as well!!
Glad you enjoyed, real good of you to stop by, appreciate it, cheers Alan
Yes, you go to some real deserted places but they sure are nice and peaceful too, so I would really enjoy that as well :o)
Great walk Alan, perfect for all the family! Wishing Mrs Metalman a speedy recovery🤞🤞Happy Easter Monday👍👍
Tanks Anthony and she is fine now, only problem is I caught the same bug and on day 7 of trying to get rid of it 😡 . Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Nice walk , a coffee & bus back to keswick.some days that's all you need 😁 it wouldn't be the lakes without a bit rain 😂👍
Hi friend! As always, I watched with interest. Best wishes to you 🦇🙂👌😃
Thank you very much, appreciate you watching and so nice of you to leave a comment, cheers Alan
Looks like a nice accessible walk for everyone. Shame the weather wasn't so great.
Hi Alan. Some fabulous views of the river along the way! That must have been quite a train journey back in the day! All the best and take care 👍👍
Yes and in a way it would have been nice to reopen the old line and put a steam train on it running from Keswick to Penrith, not that would be a tourist attraction. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Cool video! 😎 I really enjoyed watching it!
Thank you so much, real good of you, cheers Alan
Nice walk on the to do list thanks
Hope you enjoy it and good to hear the video was some use to you. Real good of you to watch and take the time to leave a comment, cheers Alan
The second bridge was down after Desmond when we went last
But all in all a great little walk that 👍👍👍
All open all the way now and funny you should mention about getting soaked, as we made a brilliant decision to get the bus back as as soon as we got on the heavens opened and it was torrential all the way back to Keswick lol.
@@AlanMETALMAN Aww well I hope you get well soon, glad Mrs M is OK. These bugs can really hang around...
Thanks for sharing I'm in Keswick in June so on my list 😊
Hope you enjoy it and it is dry for you lol. To be fair, you would hope so in June. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Thanks again 👍
Hi Alan this looks interesting, I'll catch it later or tomorrow when family leave ! Leaving a like 👍in advance . Happy Easter 🙂 Anna
Thanks so much for that and Happy Easter to you all :o)
It's nice to see that the trail is coming back to life!
Great video my friend big like
Big thanks for visiting John, always appreciated buddy, cheers Alan
@@AlanMETALMAN Get well soon. Miserable week ahead here, rain and strong winds, but next week looks almost tropical!!
Cold and wet, no problem 💪
Great walk with you 👍👍
Yes we knew the rain was going to be on and off all day, so this seemed a prefect opportunity to try this new walk and not go too far or too high. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Been meaning to do this for a while Alan! Looks like a good walk 😀
There is a Keswick in Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia, and it has an old theater, which is a great venue. I’ve seen many funk bands there. 💜
Yes, I have heard of it and there are a few places over here that have the same name. Funny enough our Keswick also has a theatre too, cheers Alan
nice walk Alan - like 132 with a fv as always - wishing you a great weekend
Same to you buddy and a first time on this walk, which was perfect for Mrs Metalman, short and flat, she was very happy :o)
I live in the US, but a branch of my family that has been here since the 1600s is from Threlkeld. I have wanted to visit.
Funnily enough we did Hallin Fell the day after this! Got the boat to Howtown and walked back to Glenridding. Another cracking walk.
The "official start"? My treks always start from where my car is in the car park LOL Good decision to take the bus back! That weather looked rough.
Haha, to be honest that sign was about 200 yards from the car but a first ever walk on this new trail that used to be the old railways line many years ago. Only short and very flat but it made a mice change to be fair. Real good of you to watch, cheers Alan
Love when they repurpose old rail lines to trails...
3:24 This small cascade suggested you had quite rain prior to this hike?4:33
Alan, I am not familiar with this area. What are those little shed-ish buildings? 5:26
What's the lovely environment. Listening to the sounds of the river and the Bird chirping in the background. 6:45
At last, I am glad to see Mrs.
I hope that Mrs. Metalman’s eye infection clears up soon
Thank so much and yes, it took all week but all good now, well that was until she gave it to me that was lol! Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
@@AlanMETALMAN 💜
Personally I would like to see the railway reopen but still it looks a good walk.. My grandfather drove trains on here he always told me it was his favourite railway .
To be honest Ian, I know exactly what you mean, it must have been a great ride back in the day. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
@@AlanMETALMAN yes would be a nice run . And it would be great to get a train to Keswick .
Great video. Ironically one can see more at this time of year without foliage blocking the view, also I'm with you on kilometres??
Haha, yes, I am a miles feet and inches man, the rest I do not understand lol. First time we have done this walk and really enjoyed it, despite the weather but I get what you mean regarding the views in the summer. Real nicer of you to watch and comment, very much appreciated, cheers Alan
Hi Alan,
Guess I'm the only foreigner here?
@@AlanMETALMAN search on here for trains to Keswick you will enjoy it and you will hear the Cumbrian dialect 😂
That was fun to watch..I think they did a good job improving the trail IMHO...
They did, real user friendly as well, a trail anyone can do at any age and of any ability. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
