Project Sonic 2017 (AKA Sonic Forces)
I think the closest you've gotten to beating sonic is almost killing him in adventure 2, if Sonic had been just a bit too slow or was unable to chaos control out of there with the fake emerald you'd have won!
2017 - Sonic Forces - I win.
Besides, I come EXTREMELY close in every game you listed.
2016 - Fire and Ice - I almost killed Sonic with my sheer weight.
2014 - Sonic Boom - Lyric was the main threat at this time, so it was more importantly to defeat him, which I actually did. If it wasn't for me, this snake would have killed Sonic and his friends, so they owed me a pizza. Oh and I got this amazing deus ex machina of Lyric.
2013 - Sonic Lost World - Sonic had to live through his most desperate moment.
2011 - Sonic Generations - I squashed Sonics into blue jelly. It's only because of the -power of friendship- Chaos Emeralds they were able to get an upper hand. Who cares, because of this incident I was able to contact Albert and start another brilliant scheme.
2001 - Sonic Adventure 2 - I was able to hold entire world hostage and I almost killed Sonic. If it wasn't for Sonic's Chaos Control and my grandfather program I would have won.
1993 - Sonic CD - I conquered an entire world and entire Sonic's progress was undermined in Sonic 4, because I enslaved Little Planet once again and it's still stuck in Death Egg mk.2 (AND IT WILL BE STUCK FOREVER!).
1991 - Sonic the Hedgehog - I caught Sonic off guard by turning EVERY animal into robot and I almost killed him by throwing him into Labyrinth Zone Act 4.

I feel Eggman has gotten the closest to winning in the Adventure series, Unleashed and Forces.... honestly I would count Unleashed and Forces as a win for Eggman.. in both cases he accomplished his goal and only failed to maintain the win but he still technically won in those games

Well kind of. In Unleashed, his goal was to kill Sonic by electrocuting him and then throwing him down to Earth, but Chip saved him from the fall. So that plan failed. He also planned on gaining control over the world by using Dark Gaia to build his Empire, but he betrayed him.
Miles-Rotation Yes true but I will say that since Sonic Adventure 1 Eggman’s ultimate goal was to build Robotnik Land/Eggman Empire which he for the first time in the series managed to do in Unleashed... didn’t last long but he did it
That's a good point. It certainly was one of those times he came very close indeed. The plot felt very intense and you could really feel the urgency of the situation since you were so invested in the world. Definitely my favorite Sonic game.

Technically, Eggman wins in Sonic Adventure.
His plan was to destroy Station Square to build Eggmanland in its place, and although Sonic defeated Perfect Chaos, Station Square was destroyed.
But he didn't build Eggmanland so the Plan failed. ...in Adventure.

Beating Sonic either means taking him out for good or make sure, that Eggman can achieve his Goals without Sonic taking him out anyway. --> Even Sonic Forces wont count as a Win for Eggman if Sonic stops him afterwards. That's at least my Interpretation of "beating Sonic".

I think that there could be a more simple explanation:the phantom ruby created a distortion in limbo right before its arrival in sonic mania. It appears in the modern sonic universe after some games just because time traveling can make you go years and years in the future in just a second. But this is just a theory.
I think what happened is that the Phantom Ruby decided to bring the time back to when the end of Chronicles was there and Eggman brought everything he could to the future which is now destroyed and ruined

The time Sonic is blasted out of the ARK in a capsule is the closest Eggman has gotten to killing Sonic. It was also a really suspenseful moment the first time seeing it since Sonic hadn't tried to use Chaos Control at that point.
Funny how after Unleashed's Eggman, the E.G.G.M.A.N theme ended and switched to the sillier AoStH Robotnik theme since Colors was where they stopped taking him seriously.

You might want to read this before you comment:
"Eggman never wins" and "beating Sonic" both mean (in my Interpretation at least), that Eggman either defeated Sonic for good or made sure that Sonic wont interfere with his Plans otherwise.
So Sonic Riders and Chronicles don't count as a win, and he lost in Forces at the End because of Sonic, so he didn't beat Sonic.
There are many Comments/Topics so if you think there is something that isn't mentioned there (this Comment might show you what has been written A LOT) then looking through them might not be a bad Idea.

Now that I look at this, from Sonic 1 to Unleashed, Eggman was a legit threat, colors and onwards made him a stereotypical Saturday morning villain
I love how at 4:20, the music transitions from Eggman's epic albeit a little silly, theme from Sonic Adventure 2 to his far wackier theme from one of the old Sonic cartoons (I don't remember which one it was.). It's like the music to the video is saying, "Okay, now this is getting ridiculous."
The Cartoon was Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog [Robotniks Theme] and that's a great Way to describe it. I gave Colours the Theme because the Story itself was different from the Writing before so your Statement "Okay, now this is getting ridiculous." is on Point.

Am I the only one who got horrifying flashbacks to "Sonic' s schoolhouse" when Robotnik (young eggman) says that he might go back and get his teaching degree?

Well, he did win practically speaking.
Each time you died to him or his robots, he won in that "Universe", but since save-load mechanics are a thing, we go back and create a new one in wich we beat him.
Reminds me of a game that puts that into our face yet is decades younger than the Sonic Trilogy (Yes, Undertale). :D

@@SS2GohanisBomb1 I mean Sonic Mania takes place before the events of Sonic Forces as Classic Sonic went into the Sonic Forces Universe because of the Phantom Ruby, so possibly.

So Robotnik found a way back to his timeline and got his teaching degree, where a he taught a young girl everything he knows... and thus, the Birth of Eggette/Omelette!
