Some revisions for pre-hardmode (for new players) 1.) Once you get 200 max hp, Eye of Cthulhu has a low chance to spawn every night if you haven't beaten it already. If you're playing a softcore character (which I highly recommend for new players), keep yourself at 180 max HP or below until you feel ready for a boss. Q: "Won't that make surviving the jungle harder while I farm the jungle armor set?" A: Yes, but there's ways around that. As another bonus, once you get used to playing with 180 hp and you've saved up a bunch of heart crystals (the things that increase your max HP), the skills that kept you alive with 180 hp will make you all that much better when you've got 400 health to work with. Basically, instead of gradually getting more health and using that to make up for your mistakes, limiting yourself to 180 hp will help you identify your mistakes so you can get rid of them. Trust me, doing crazy stuff like this to test your own skill is gonna save you when you hit hardmode and realize the game gets a LOT harder VERY, VERY QUICKLY after the wall of flesh dies. Q: "What should I do with extra heart crystals then?" A: Using either lead or iron (whichever you find), go to your base and make an anvil. While standing next to that anvil, make chain, and with that and a heart crystal you can make a heart lantern which regenerates health when you're around it. 2.) When exploring the jungle, idgaf what class you're playing as, bring a yoyo and some white string, you'll thank yourself later. Both are easy to craft- the yoyo needs wood and cobwebs, the white string needs cobwebs and a loom to craft them at. Because both are so easy to make, you can make tons of them as a way to reroll stats- keep making white string until you have a warding one, though if you don't want to make a whole bunch of yoyos then I won't blame you. The utility you want is just being able to attack around corners without the thing you're attacking being able to hit you back. Pro tip: If you have a lot of cobwebs, some dye, and not a lot of accessories (for some reason), you can craft a bunch of white string and then dye some of the white string to EQUIP multiple of them at once. Q: "Do they stack and give me super-duper-ultra yoyo range?!?!?" A: Sadly, no, but this DOES let you easily carry 5 equipment items that all have warding (warding means +4 defense PER ITEM, so that's +20 defense from just a whole bunch of string on expert mode). That said, you need 4 different colors of dye to pull this off (you don't need a 5th dye, since white string itself requires no dye to make) (Edit) To clarify, I am NOT saying a yoyo should be your only weapon in the jungle, I'm saying you should be ready to swap to it anytime it's needed (so keep it in your hotbar). If your enemy can already see you anyway, swap to whatever your primary weapon is and burn that mfkr down. 3.) ALWAYS have a bulk supply of wood and torches in your inventory so you can wall yourself into a safe position and craft a campfire, a workbench, and a chair. Sitting in a chair regenerates health faster, and so too does standing close to a campfire. Anytime you're low health, just find a wall to dig a hole into, block off the entrance with wood, craft a workbench so you can make a chair, put down the chair and a campfire and sit down to regen health. You can either leave this temporary base there in case you need it later or pick up your supplies so you don't have to recraft them all the time- the choice is yours. Q: "Should I carry a heart lantern with me as well?" A: I find it to be a bit much since it takes up a whole inventory slot, but in theory that would be the safest idea. 4.) (Can't believe Zuzucorn didn't mention this after saying the demolitionist was important) USE EXPLOSIVES TO GET OBSIDIAN EARLY. Drain water onto lava to make obsidian, use bombs to blow up the obsidian, use the obsidian to make an obsidian skull. At 3:10, y'know how Zuzucorn says to be careful since meteorite can burn you? That's only true if you do NOT have an obsidian skull equipped. If you DO have one, they don't burn you at all. Obsidian's also another easy resource to get, so (just like with white string) it won't take you much effort to make a whole bunch of them until you get one with warding (or some other stat boost you like).
This is a really good tutorial for people wanting to try the mage class. I normally play melee but am doing a mage expert playtrough and this really helped :)
Thank you so much! After a couple hours of attempts (yes I know I'm not the best at terraria), I managed to beat the game for the first time, and I wouldn't have been able to do it without you!
Now try expert mode, it's harder but rare drops and coins are increased and have exclusive items like EoC shield, it's not too hard compared to master mode. All you need is to know what you're doing, like what goals to do, which you already know cause you completed the game already

Now 10 days later after first getting terraria this mage guide helped me beat my first terraria world and on master mode at that. Thanks
Amazing video as always! Some other magic weapons (that were cut to make this video 15 minutes) I personally recommend are: Magic Missile (dungeon) Flamelash (shadow chest) Spirit Flame (underground corrupt/crimson desert materials) Rainbow Rod (souls of light + hallow materials) Spectre Staff (hardmode dungeon) But use whatever you like.
i recently started playing terraria bc a friend recommended it and as someone who had never heard of terraria before and was hilariously bad this really put it out step by step really well thank you :)
I'd also recommend farming old one's army and martian madness after golem has been killed, farm the saucers for the charged blaster cannon, and then use the cannon to defeat old one's army and get Betsy's wrath. The charged blaster cannon is like a poor man's last prism, it's a great all round weapon. And Betsy's wrath is like an upgraded golden shower, it's probably the best staff in Terraria
Honestly re-watching this guide I 100 percent recomend using the rainbow rod against skeletron prime if it's hard to aim it deals with its arms amazingly well it's so satisfying to see ur dps sky rocket to 600 to 1000 every time you fire
Things you might have missed out: 1. 1:31, ever since 1.4 the wand of sparking is really really good 2. 1.50, Amethyst and topas jem staffs aren't worth crafting if you have a wand of sparking due to them consuming much more mana and not having a debuff with the projectiles being slow enough to make it outright dangerous to use them against flying enemies at low mana 3. 1:58, The best way to do this is to make a long platform above the ground as it is easier to traverse and collect the fallen stars on 4. 2:09, In 1.4.1 you can change corruption items to crimson and also the band of starpower is very useful to use with a band of regeneration for a band of mana regeneration which can be used to craft the magic cuffs and is also an amazing acessory by itself, you cen even use it up to mechs it's that good, but outside of master mode (because of the extra acc slot) there will be acessories that beat it after mechs such as the celestial emblem (magic cuffs is still good till moon lord tho) 5. 4:22, A mana regeneration potion Is a good alternative to using mana potions so you can avoid the mana sickness debuff and a mana flower will be less nesscessary making space for an extra acessory (recipe: Bottled water, Moonglow, Daybloom, Fallen star at a placed bottle or alchemy table; I recommend buying 50 of any planter boxes for *each* flower and placing them to make a farm using the respective plant seeds, Dayblooms can only be farmed at night and moonglow only at night, breaking the flowers using a staff of regrowth is recommended) 6. 6:01, There is an exceptionally good weapon called the cursed flames that you can get in the same way as the golden shower but using cursed flames instead of ichor, it's the best mage weapon you can get up until frost moon but it may be hard to aim due to it shooting at an ark 7. 7:23 a viable alternative is to find a blessed apple from hallowed enemies at a low chance and any double jump item with an arena around 1400 platforms long to fight queen slime for the gelatinous pillion mount, it's a very food alternative to wings and frees up many acessory slot but this does require a boss fight which some might not like even with the easy blessed apple strategy of just running away 8. 7:52, A risky but rewarding strategy is to use the diamond robe instead of the ore chestpiece due to the amazing mana increase and useage reduction, I recommend obtaining the frozen turtle shell from ice tortoises to compensate for the lack of defence 9. Star in a bottle is a great arena item that increases mana regen and should have been noted as it is easy to craft and helps if you are avoiding thr mana sickness debuff 10. Reforging acessories to arcane will help you deal dammage for longer periods of time, making it better than menacing and lucky, 400 mana is the max ammount of mana you can have and the crystal ball gives you 20 mana so it's best if you stay at 380 mana with no buffs in hardmode Overall tho decent video, even if it misses out on key parts of a good mage loadout, it will get you through the game
@@WojtekDwanascieLat Well so far you can only change the band of star power to panic necklace and vice versa with a heart crystal and mana crystal respectively, i should have clarified that

Everything about this video is super spot on the only thing I would recommend is getting a nimbus rod as it’s just a very easy way to get a lot more damage
I started playing approximately a week ago and I started with expert mode and to be honest, I struggled, but it was worth it because I'm already further in the game than my friends that started with normal mode and started earlier. This guide has helped me insanely, I seriously can't even stress it, it helped understand the game so well it made hardmode a breeze after a while, so thanks a lot.
if ur unlucky like me and didnt get a meteor spawn then get a purple key from the dungeon and go to the underworld and loot the purple chests they have a chance to contain meteorite bars
You can break more shadow orbs between midnight and 4:30 and they have a 50% chance to spawn a meteorite I only know this cuz this same thing happened to me yesterday
Even after 3 years this guide is still helpful! Had no idea about the zapinator with meteor armor combo. Watching through the vid while playing with my friends! Thanks.
Btw for any class you're going for, and if you need healing potions, good ones, then you can farm hallow mimics, first obtain 15 souls of light from underground hallow creatures ( illuminant bats, illuminant slimes, etc ) and craft a key with the souls, then make a chest with 2 any iron bars ( must be 2 of the same ) and some wood, then put it down and put the key in the chest to transform it into a mimic, they almost always if not always drop greater healing potions, along with mana potions, a hook and an op bow.
Im actually someone returning to the game after a few years. After I "beat" the game multiple times across its various versions (i been playing since 1.1), I stepped away from the game. I have played some mage builds but not from the beginning. Ive only ever done Melee only or ranged only runs, but not mage or summoner only. Just watched this to refamiliarise myself with stuff cause Ive forgotten most of it (ADHD moment). Ik im late but thanks for the guide. Very helpful
I LOVED this video it helped me start becoming a mage after finishing a summoner play through and these tips are very usefull but the one suggestion i have is to just over time collect all the magic items (like the books wands ext) and see what playset seems fit to you the most
@@chocodonut5367 well, if I don't then it's not cheating? If you automatically think it's cheating just because the option is available, then I don't really know what to say. In fact, I always show my health just so people won't think I'm on godmode. To be honest, I just don't even need it lol
@@xela953 Is BOC easier? Cause if you have a good mace you can just hold it down and the fights over. I don’t think I’ve ever lost to EoW. Plus, I don’t know if you get the musket from crimson orbs, but it is a really good weapon to start.
@@ZeditYT i find eater of worlds harder because fighting him on the surface is a complete nightmare for me and fighting him underground makes movement impossible. BOC’s both creepers and illusion phase are countered by spiky balls from the goblin invasion lol as for the orbs, i dont think the crimson hearts and shadow orbs have anything life changing in them anyway so i dont really compare them. as for the expert drop, both accessories are good, but imo the brain of confusion is the better item i also think that the crimson enemies are less annoying. corruption in prehardmode is 90% eater of souls whoch get super annoying to deal with. in the crimson there are less flying enemies (crimera) because they are spread out into different enemies, some of which are contained to the ground or walls. i also think that the crimera are less aggressive than the eater of souls i also find that the crimson is easier to traverse than the corruption although the corruption music slaps, so its hard to be pulled away from it lol
Good guide, but... 1- Instead of going for EoW first, go for Jungle Armor and Demon Scythe. With these two you can do whatever you want pre-hardmode. 2- Cursed Flames is underrated. 3- ALWAYS go for Harpy Wings. 4- Mana Flower is overrated imo. With A Mana Regen Potion instead of reducing your damage by 30% you wait for a second and you have max mana, and an empty accessory slot. 5- While seraching for a bulb/making a plantera arena, hunt moths and upgrade your wings.
I happened to drop a thunder staff from a chest in the underground desert biome. Very good for the very early game. Got the thunder spear as a nice backup melee weapon aswell.
I have watched other mage play through and they always go way overboard and it’s just not fun to spend so much time on it but you make it so quick and simple so nice job

Some revisions for pre-hardmode (for new players)
1.) Once you get 200 max hp, Eye of Cthulhu has a low chance to spawn every night if you haven't beaten it already. If you're playing a softcore character (which I highly recommend for new players), keep yourself at 180 max HP or below until you feel ready for a boss.
Q: "Won't that make surviving the jungle harder while I farm the jungle armor set?"
A: Yes, but there's ways around that.
Q: "What should I do with extra heart crystals then?"
A: Using either lead or iron (whichever you find), go to your base and make an anvil.
Q: "Do they stack and give me super-duper-ultra yoyo range?!?!?"
A: Sadly, no, but this DOES let you easily carry 5 equipment items that all have warding (warding means +4 defense PER ITEM, so that's +20 defense from just a whole bunch of string on expert mode). That said, you need 4 different colors of dye to pull this off (you don't need a 5th dye, since white string itself requires no dye to make)
(Edit) To clarify, I am NOT saying a yoyo should be your only weapon in the jungle, I'm saying you should be ready to swap to it anytime it's needed (so keep it in your hotbar).
Q: "Should I carry a heart lantern with me as well?"
A: I find it to be a bit much since it takes up a whole inventory slot, but in theory that would be the safest idea.

Thanks, this will help, tho i recommend beating queen bee after EoW or BoC for the bee gun, cause it shreads skeletron and WoF, one of the best magic weapons imo
Man this guy is so calming and welcoming, immediately subbed. Keep making these vids bro :)
This was an amazing guide! You show a lot of alternatives so you can choose yourself which way feels the best for you! And also you obtain all items yourself so it doesn’t feel as impossible to grind for some item. Thank you!
Yay! I was excited about this! :) I'm actually planning on developing a terraria mod. Maybe If I finish it then you could try it! :)
Just a note that the spectre staff is REALLY good
I'm in my first terraria playtrouh, and it was the weapon I used for doing all the grinding until the lunatic cultisr, I'm actually getting prepared to try and beat the moon lord
Everything about this video is super spot on the only thing I would recommend is getting a nimbus rod as it’s just a very easy way to get a lot more damage

i love how he explains some things about doing stuff that you should know anyway
You’re videos are so good no one dislikes them (at the time of watching)
I started playing approximately a week ago and I started with expert mode and to be honest, I struggled, but it was worth it because I'm already further in the game than my friends that started with normal mode and started earlier. This guide has helped me insanely, I seriously can't even stress it, it helped understand the game so well it made hardmode a breeze after a while, so thanks a lot.
I think starting in expert mode is better than normal mode because it does forge a stronger character and the bosses just get more fun.
Shadow Wizard Money Gang 🤑🤑💰 We love casting spells
Very helpful video! I was so lost after not playing terraria for a long time, hopefully this will make me come back better!
Thanks man, you helped me a lot before the destroyer fight
Easily one of my top 3 UA-camrs
Frozen Wings have the same stats as Pixie Wings, I recommend Pixie wings cuz it glows when u fly, good for exploring
one nice staff to get from golem is earth staff, use that from a saucer to deal crazy damage to anything below you
Thank you for your videos!
Not doing a mage run right now (stuck on mech bosses as summoner ...) but everything you do helps a ton of people!
Honestly i played more than 500 hours of terraria and this is approved an amazing begginers guide for mages
4:16 THE ORANGE IS BETTER
Your voice so relaxing. I stopped terraria for over a year but now I wanna play ist again, while listen to your vids.
if ur unlucky like me and didnt get a meteor spawn then get a purple key from the dungeon and go to the underworld and loot the purple chests they have a chance to contain meteorite bars
You can break more shadow orbs between midnight and 4:30 and they have a 50% chance to spawn a meteorite I only know this cuz this same thing happened to me yesterday
@@Go_PSU they patched that on pc it only works on 3ds and old gen consoles so you need to defeat EoW or BoC for the meteor to spawn
@@AdamProGamingTR oh
Even after 3 years this guide is still helpful! Had no idea about the zapinator with meteor armor combo.
Watching through the vid while playing with my friends! Thanks.
I love your videos dude! You earned a sub!
Another thing that helps is the magic weapon betsy's wrath from the tier 3 Old ones army, it reduces enemy defense and stacks with the ichor debuff.
me: crys in terraria 1.3
Ur the small majority of UA-camr that I could fall asleep listening to 😅
People: Want to sleep
UA-camrs: *NOPE*
Btw for any class you're going for, and if you need healing potions, good ones, then you can farm hallow mimics, first obtain 15 souls of light from underground hallow creatures ( illuminant bats, illuminant slimes, etc ) and craft a key with the souls, then make a chest with 2 any iron bars ( must be 2 of the same ) and some wood, then put it down and put the key in the chest to transform it into a mimic, they almost always if not always drop greater healing potions, along with mana potions, a hook and an op bow.
in the video at 11:30 he switches his hood really quick now i am just wondering how he did that and if so if you know
Bro I don't even remember half of what I commented, I haven't played Terraria since then omg
Thank! Playing my first play through of the game as ranged but i definitely want to try out mage as my second class.
My friends recommended you, I play mage and this really helped. We also have a corrupt world, so that also helped.
This man is a goldmine
Im actually someone returning to the game after a few years. After I "beat" the game multiple times across its various versions (i been playing since 1.1), I stepped away from the game. I have played some mage builds but not from the beginning. Ive only ever done Melee only or ranged only runs, but not mage or summoner only. Just watched this to refamiliarise myself with stuff cause Ive forgotten most of it (ADHD moment).
Ik im late but thanks for the guide. Very helpful
when you get attacked by eye of cuthulhu in a master mode world with a broken vilethorn and still win: 🐵
This channel needs more than just 70k subs
I'll bet ningishu is the only one patient enough to do a pure summoner run
Who ningishu ?, Ninshu Ex ? That dude on Steam ?
@@XnonXte The Speedrunner, channel called Ningishu.
@@HifumiAjitani Oh i thought my EX Steam friend become a UA-camr XD, yeah i already know Ningishu
@@XnonXte xD
Literally the bests guides of terraria are this and the waffletime videos, thanks for been awesome and share the knowledge bro.
i think you should also have used rainbow rod after twins, it's really good!
I LOVED this video it helped me start becoming a mage after finishing a summoner play through and these tips are very usefull but the one suggestion i have is to just over time collect all the magic items (like the books wands ext) and see what playset seems fit to you the most
Goblin army just attacked me after watching this video 😩 they gave me this other dark thingi 😩I'm a wizard now
Thanks I finished my mage I didn't follow word for word but this helped a lot and definitely subbing ❤
There’s no way they named it the golden shower
I watch this so much like i keep watching it i dont know why but its so informative and helpful
Are you making a Melee series. If there is and im just a dumb idiot then tell me the link please
Says 15 mins but actually 15:35. Totally unwatchable
Wow... Really good video👍I hope meele comes next.
I never understand why do you make journey mode character and world to make playthroughs for certain class?
It's easier for building. Plus, you can still play on expert or master difficulties.
@@Zuzucorn but i think it is cheating as you can switch to godmode and also u can dupe items
@@chocodonut5367 well, if I don't then it's not cheating? If you automatically think it's cheating just because the option is available, then I don't really know what to say. In fact, I always show my health just so people won't think I'm on godmode. To be honest, I just don't even need it lol
@@Zuzucorn but i cannot resist to use the powers of a journey mode character lol
The rainbow rod is really good for fighting Duke fishron pre-plantera
"Don your shit new armour"
The magical harp was so broken against the destroyer.
Can you do a ranger guide next. Zuzu is the best.
This guy is so nice, he starts every video with “Hello friend!” And he plays terraria so 10/10 👌
And he is pro-corruption and I hate crimson so 12/10
@@ZeditYT brain of confusion is busted though and BOC is easier
@@xela953 Is BOC easier? Cause if you have a good mace you can just hold it down and the fights over. I don’t think I’ve ever lost to EoW. Plus, I don’t know if you get the musket from crimson orbs, but it is a really good weapon to start.
@@ZeditYT i find eater of worlds harder because fighting him on the surface is a complete nightmare for me and fighting him underground makes movement impossible. BOC’s both creepers and illusion phase are countered by spiky balls from the goblin invasion lol
as for the orbs, i dont think the crimson hearts and shadow orbs have anything life changing in them anyway so i dont really compare them.
as for the expert drop, both accessories are good, but imo the brain of confusion is the better item
i also think that the crimson enemies are less annoying. corruption in prehardmode is 90% eater of souls whoch get super annoying to deal with. in the crimson there are less flying enemies (crimera) because they are spread out into different enemies, some of which are contained to the ground or walls. i also think that the crimera are less aggressive than the eater of souls
i also find that the crimson is easier to traverse than the corruption
although the corruption music slaps, so its hard to be pulled away from it lol

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK
Good guide, but...
1- Instead of going for EoW first, go for Jungle Armor and Demon Scythe. With these two you can do whatever you want pre-hardmode.
2- Cursed Flames is underrated.
3- ALWAYS go for Harpy Wings.
4- Mana Flower is overrated imo. With A Mana Regen Potion instead of reducing your damage by 30% you wait for a second and you have max mana, and an empty accessory slot.
5- While seraching for a bulb/making a plantera arena, hunt moths and upgrade your wings.
Waterbolt can be pre skeletron
Not anymore
@@Masked_One_1316 is it though? Beacuse last time i checked you could get a waterbolt pre skeletron if you are lucky
@@kitsuneeeeeeeeee ohhhh really well i really do learn something everyday

I happened to drop a thunder staff from a chest in the underground desert biome. Very good for the very early game. Got the thunder spear as a nice backup melee weapon aswell.
Its 12:00 at night, i shouldn’t be watching this

Thanks so much on this
i watched this to help my friend
he loves it
i subbed like and hit the bell
i found my terraria HOME
this is my house now
"Daddy why"🤣🤣🤣

I have watched other mage play through and they always go way overboard and it’s just not fun to spend so much time on it but you make it so quick and simple so nice job
Eh
Nice! I'm going to use this to help me in mage playthroughs. Thanks!
Poggerd
Did that bunny jus say "daddy why"
you're the best, zuzucorn. you helped me beat my very first mech boss
First
I also have a gray zapinator its awesome give it to the reforger npc and he will make it OP
Very late to this but for anyone having issue with the eater of world you can try getting a water bolt from the dungeon it’s the blue book with the yellow band on the shelves. However beating skeletron can be a challenge if playing in expert mode.
