This is happening across the board. Look at the voice acting, anime, and video game industries. Big corporations are undervaluing the talent in favor of profits and AI.

“No way to know how many views they are getting per show?” That’s just not true. They have data on top of data of what everyone watches and for exactly how long, guaranteed. Crunch those numbers and quantify it into a dollar value. Let’s go…
Of course there is a way to know the numbers, but it is heavily black-boxed information. That’s kind of the whole point here - streamers and producers are acting with greedy impunity.
The problem with views is how to measure them but also because there needs to be some way of correlating views with and increase or decrease in subscriber count due to the fact the individual views aren't comparable. If one Netflix customer only watches two movies in a month, those views are worth way more than those of another customers that watches 3 hours a day. Because each of them paid the same subscription fee.
Calculate total gross revenue of all subscription fees collected across-the-board divided by minutes watched of X show or X episode. Sounds a bit ridiculous, but it would be fair. That way you would know exactly how much each and every show or movie is contributing to the revenue of the streamer. From there you can work out deals for how much, each show or movie should receive from the streamer in residuals. The Crown contributed to 3.1% of all of views on Netflix for the first quarter of 2023 or something like that and they work out the contract based on that 3.1% It’s really not complicated math. They are just not willing to do it. If a show or movie gets no views, then it gets no residuals and it leaves the streamer eventually (which already happens). The streamer business model is not successful for the combination of only four reasons: no ad revenue like normal TV, subscription fees are too low, stolen passwords leading to free views, the streamer paying too much to developers for original content ie standup specials, or those Adam Sandler movies. None of that is the fault of the artists or the actors. They gotta fix it. Figure out ads or start charging $50/month, or…we just get rid of streamers altogether.
⚠ These strikes are destroying many people's careers such as VFX artists, animators, sound department, on-set crew members, etc. We all get nothing from these strikes except being UNEMPLOYED. The greedy actors & writers don't care how many peoples jobs they ruin. ⚠

I'm going to tell all of these actors and writers what people in their tax bracket have been telling me for the last 26 years that I've been working. Are you ready? Go get another job.😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Gosh, how times have changed since 2021 when production workers of the IATSE wanted to strike to reduce their long working hours and low hourly pay rates. Who knew that Unions were supposed to support each other.
I've been content with syndication tv forever. Seinfeld netflix etc.
Cant wait for ai to replace all these derps.
The last movies I saw in the theaters were Midway and Avatar 2, and I can honestly say, "Don't slip and fall on all those tears..."
Go woke go broke Hollywood
Hollyweird can starve for all I care.😒
...and nothing of value was lost.
Actors who make hundreds of thousands for brainless movies should take a pay cut instead
Some of the actor are paid millions.

Its very tough for the CEOs to survive…have to feel sorry for them 🐷🐽💰
I don't feel sorry for the CEOs.
As far as I’m concerned y’all haven’t written anything worth getting a raise for besides remaking movies that came out in the 70s if they were letting you walk away that means you’re not gonna be missed
Matt Damon who shilled for crypto? I am sure his presence will provide a high level of credibility.
That was good.
What? They can't calculate how many people watch a streamed show? I want to know who said that.
Yeah, they know, Netflix / Disney admitted it, but they refused to release their number of viewers.
Frankly, the "quality" of movies and TV that I have suffered through for the past fifteen to twenty years has been so bad, I really can't see much impact to me and my family. Seems like the best shows on TV are still Seinfeld and one or two others. What are we losing?
Yeah people need to quit making bad movies, shows, and games on purpose.
Well, thank goodness you have the right to a remote control and are capable of turning off a channel.
@@suzanne9150 That's for sure, because there's a heaping helping of garbage on the air.

You're so right! I haven't had cable since I watched the first so-called reality show and thought what a piece of crap!
I wonder how much money Hollywood is gonna make with no actors and writers.
People cross picket lines all the time. I'm in IATSE we aren't picketing yet.
There is no solidarity.
I support overworked rail workers and under paid UPS package handlers. t
Over paid tv and movie makers that haven't produced and thing worth watching since All in the Family and Dukes of Hazard, not so much. 🤠

Nah not even one good movie is worth it

Now lets hope the news people strike.....😂
yup
Hopefully this inspires workers in other industries to unionize.
Labor unions are a communist construct that has devastated American manufacturing and construction industries. All labor unions should be de-certified immediately.
@@grymreaper6631 No it's not. Unions are what make the 40-hour work week possible in the first place. Without unions, manufacturing jobs would still be paying employees $2 an hour, or worse.
It’ll be nice to have an actor that isn’t screaming at society on what they “have to believe” during their time off. Not like we have had content to watch for several years now.
This is a great day for America. If only there were no more Hollywood.
Hollywood is propaganda machine......no arts ...just trash.
Good. Let them get a 9 to 5 job. Movie nowadays stink anyway. And are overpriced
Do they really think there's something to be gained? Time for humanity to renounce flesh eating and serve the Spirit Of Life!
I have seen three movies in the past 2 years at best and only watch a few TV shows. Most of my time has been spent watching sports or playing video games or rewatching old shows and movies.
Praise be, a 100% blackout. We are saved from the mundanity of contemporary TV and film.
I can’t believe the pandemic is still be used as an excuse. Like just stop
There is no protection against the coming AI. These folks need to start figuring out another line of work.
It’s hard for me to sympathize with A list actors but I do understand the other unknown working actors who are struggling to make a living.
Are they striking too?
Can we as consumers of the industry go on strike for lack of good movies?
It is called "not watching".
I think, that's when memes became a thing wayyy back.
It would help their cause if they turned out quality products. Unfortunately 90% of new shows and movies have been pure crap as of late.
AI is an issue for both writers & actors. Fair solution is for studios to pay licensing of scripts & performances before altering them with AI. Tough negotiations ahead.
Hello its also problem for so called engineers who created them
Affects all humans
For all ! A worry UK to been mentioned it on all jobs what ever they are , agree with their plight
The growing influence that will be gained from those "legendary" names picketing and talking about the strike can be estimated by tracking the recent trend of viewership of the academy awards. Read the rooom people.
what about caterers?! ppl shout but dude cgi actors dont eat 😂
As the audience, I completely support the writer's strike. In fact I believe writer's pay should be a much larger portion of production costs and most of that should come by substantially reducing what the star actors get paid. Their salaries are ridiculously high especially when one thinks about how little they contribute relative to all the other working parts of the production.
Unless they are protesting against ESG, this is all irrelevant.
I just wanna mentioned that this happened before, in 2005 or 06 and the result was reality TV blew up. And that's how we got Trump. Just pay the creative minds what they are worth already
Hear, hear. And the writer's strike prior in the late '80s gave us "COPS" and "The Real World." It's never good for us at-large.
that would mean that the "creative minds" will have to pay vast amounts of money to be published.
So, you're saying to cut their pay?
ORANGE MAN BAD REEEEE I LOVE SHOVING MY POLITICAL OPINIONS INTO EVERY WAKING MOMENT OF MY LIFE

I care not for this strike or any of those involved. As long as Hollywood bleeds from it, then they will find an ally in me. Also, Frannie still looking good.
All our new stuff is going to be from Australian or Brit writers. Unions don't carry overseas
@@therock8288 Except that they already had jobs and work, and Britain is also facing a bevy of its own strike action. Furthermore, regarding labor shortages, these are to some extent international, and demanding huge amounts of foreign screenwriters who are already busy with their own content is not exactly a viable solution. They will charge a whole lot more, and the lack of promotions will cut revenues severely. Realistically, they will have to give in.
Maybe if they made good entertainment I would care.
Oh no. Not the actors. Whatever will we do now. 😐
Not all actors in Hollywood are A-list rich millionaires most people seem to believe, as the majority of them are middle class actors who barley make more than the average citizen.
I can finally catch up on my IMDB watchlist! Thank you 😭
It's called Freevee. LOL
It’s easy… stop paying the CEO’s hundreds of millions annually..and everyone will get paid enough.
Disney+ is losing almost a 3 billion a year. Bob Iger's pay would only cover those loses for less than 4 days.
It's even easier, stop ESG and the virtue signaling.
Bye felica to the lot of them. They act like they're doing the most important work in the world. Ppl don't care! What about healthcare workers and teachers salaries and work? Give me a break. They can all fade away, and we'll happily watch AI.
This doesn't impact me at all. Doing a cost benefit analysis their product is not worth the time or expense . If farmers were to strike I would be concerned . Posies and dandy's aren't particularly important in a regular peasants life .
Look I know its crummy of me, but Ill be a scab actor. Just so we can keep the entertainment machine rolling. I will do whatever ever role the next big blockbuster will be. Heck, i’ll even write it, and do my own make up, and fetch my own coffee. You wait and see, my Batman rom com movie is just what we need right now!

“No way to know how many views they are getting per show?” That’s just not true. They have data on top of data of what everyone watches and for exactly how long, guaranteed. Crunch those numbers and quantify it into a dollar value. Let’s go…
Then why do they never disclose the figures?
Do you have any idea why they hide the views? I can't figure it out.
The next step of this process is a theater strike, where movie theaters refuse to buy new movies and then the companies will lose a lot
Oh no 😂. Most of the movies in the last couple years sucked anyway. Guess we won't get more crap for awhile.
