    About the Video:
Watch Ryan Lott open the Digital Performer session of his band Son Lux's hit "Live Another Life" to walk students through how the song came together - from an initial idea sparked by a custom digital instrument that Ryan built using a recorded clip of Ghanaian xylophonist SK Kakraba playing the gyil, to the addition of Ian Chang's dynamic and constantly shifting percussion, another custom instrument built from a muted cello, and Rafiq Bhatia's layered guitar.
This video is an excerpt of Ryan's comprehensive new Soundfly course, Ryan Lott: Designing Sample-Based Instruments. Learn to build the kinds of instruments Ryan uses in "Live Another Life" at soundfly.com/ryanlott

    About the Course:
Inject a new dose of creativity into your music by composing with your own custom-made digital instruments. In this course, Ryan Lott, composer and bandleader of Son Lux, will show you how to find and construct inspiring, unpredictable sounds, and turn those sounds into playable instruments. Learn to write music in response to instruments that emerge through experimentation, rich with contour and variation. And see what kind of music you can create when you move beyond the limits of traditional instrumentation.
Ryan will walk students through the techniques he uses in his own music and in scores for films including 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' and 'Looper' to catalyze new creative ideas and build music that evokes complex emotions.
This course was designed for producers looking for more control in their sound design, composers who want to add evocative and otherworldly qualities to their music, and anyone in search of an inspiring new tool to drive their songwriting forward.

I write alot of pieces currently using my sony ps vita handheld using a old programming game that was released for it way back around 2010 and like Ryan I do my best to find my own sounds from the palette offered from that game. I often struggle to get my compression and mixing right for most of my pieces due to limitations with the device. I've been trying to write music self taught for over 25 years now only using gaming software cut and paste programs and I've always wanted to be able to work within a studio but never felt confident enough, equally just didn't want to waste a people's time I've shared a piece of music on sound cloud from way back a piece called
Finish it. I believe I was under the allias of rendered visible by all means listern if you would like and be kind and off course if it's still on there I haven't checked for a long time now. I've always wanted help from somebody professional as music has been a large part of my life but as mentioned not confident and unsure who to turn to I've never really fully explored. Regardless thank you for work Ryan of son lux a very informative vid as well as entertaining and inspiring. Love your work that you have shared. Peace and love
