And she was crocheting very slowly! I imagine that, like many of us more experienced crocheters, she actually works at a much faster pace than she uses to teach with. I certainly do, but I've been crocheting almost 49 years now.

I'm using a thinner velvet yarn, and I had to restart 4 times because the yarn is tricky to work with, but I finally got it going and it looks and feels great! It will take me a few days to finish it since the yarn is smaller, but I'm looking forward to the final blanket. 😊

@@DearestMamacita I fixed it by pulling it apart and starting over. There are videos that address curling issues. They helped me, but unfortunately it's been a very long time since I did it so I can't remember enough advice to give you here.

Well I agree with all the lovely comments. You are a wonderful teacher & I am understanding this double crochet now. I’m 76 & have just started to crochet as I too are quite house bound with very bad Fibromyalgia & arthritis. My other half passed 13 years ago so I live alone now with my little Yorkie. A friend comes in to exercise her but she is my little shadow & loves to cuddle up. She snuggles into my back & shoulder but it doesn’t stop me crocheting or trying to.

it looks so easy. you go so fast. can you make an afghan in a night? an under-taking for sure for a beginner. I have done macrame and some knitting. quite comprehensive and the hardest part i think would be knowing what size(yarn weight) to use. Hoping if i start now. maybe by christmas a nice afghan to gift. Looks simple. just loop the yarn around the hook and pull through.. what can possible go wrong.

I will be making some your way for two reasons, ☝️ I have arthritis in my hands so it has been hard for me to use the smaller hooks and✌🏻It will not take as long to get the project done! I love d/c, because it's so easy for my MS brain to remember and it's easier on my MS/arthritic hands. ;) I learned to crochet from my gramma, when I was about 13, but could not remember as an adult. So about 3 years ago, friends suggested I look up how to crochet videos here on UA-cam. I did, and have come a long way. Once I got the hang of it, I looked up videos on how to change colors and have done so in afghans and scarves. ;) I am so grateful for people like you who take the time to make videos like this! I won't drive anymore, (due to the MS and seizures, so I don't have a car), and my friends all work (of course) and many are busy with family, so I am home alone a lot. So crocheting has literally helped keep me from going bonkers! ;)

AmazedbyHisgrace1 Hi, I'm bedridden due to "Failed low back surgery syndrome", and am home all the time as well. Except for once every three months, when I have to "go" to hospital to have my morphine pump implant refilled. I feel very lonely too at times, and am also beginning to pick up crocheting again. Itt's hard for me as well, because it's so painfull after a while, because my arm muscles don't work properly anymore either (I have a neck implant as well). I would like to learn how to knit again (used to be able to, but that was when I was in my twenties), but am hesitant, because the knitting needles might not be as handy to work with in a bed as opposed to a crochet hook. I don't know if you will get this answer to your comment, but I hope you do, you are always welcome on my FB, just maybe, if you're interested that is, send me a PM first, so that I know who you are, since I don't know your username on FB. Hope to "hear" from you soon. Take care and God Bless !

I’ve been working on my blanket and it’s been about three months now and I’m still on the same blanket. I must’ve made it way too big because so far I’ve used about 10 bundles of yarn and it’s maybe 1/3 of the way done. I just bought six more bundles of yarn, Michaels was having a nice sale. I decided to make a maxi cardigan sweater and I noticed as I was almost finished with the back panel how well I was doing and how loose some rows were at the bottom 😅 so I unraveled the whole thing and started all over. Now it looks evenly nice and neat! Repetition was key for me.

I've seen a lot of videos when I was trying to learn, and none of them made sense. I finally found some bulky yarn and practiced with that and it clicked. (I need glasses so the bulky yarn made it easier). I wish I would have came across your video a long time ago. You made it sooooo simple for me, and I'm tired of making scarfs lol. So now I'm ready to venture into blankets.

I am trying to pick up this hobby and I think I bought too small of yarn. Need to go back and get the bulky yarn. I've been struggling for a week now.

You, Miss, have just earned a new subscriber. It is so easy to follow your instructions. I have learned how to crochet from my grandmother about 1,000 years ago and haven't done it in almost a year. I needed a refresher course and since UA-cam is so much more than music, I came across your channel in a search. Wonderful teacher!! Thanks and Happy New Year!

I remember many years back, my Nana taught me this very same simple stitch! I remember I had made a couple scarves and an Afghan. I forgot how to do this stitch being it was many years ago and have not crocheted in a while. I came here on UA-cam to search a simple stitch for crocheting and this video popped up!!. I want to get back into crocheting again and so glad I found this video!! Thank you for refreshing my memory!! :)

(Also I have family in West Virginia and you sound like my cousin Karen. You also reminded me of her. You both have a sweet personality!)
