The smallest theory I ever made: Pump wasn’t being Freed he was faking out to kill MM, that or he wasn’t faking but, monster is the Key thing keeping him in the darkness hence by the strings appearing only when monster shows up
What if pump simply can't break out because the darkness is just too strong considering he was one of the first corrupted so the darkness has more of a grasp on him?
so she's down, the corruption really did do everything to take her down right away. they first attacked her servants, then it sent out all of it's big hitters to end her (Pico, Spirit, Pump and Monster) even then she managed to free spirit and weaken senpai so much it was one step away from death (which DD and Skid finished off)

But, R.I.P MM the Hybrid really screwed her over by sealing her powers and shes likely used what little she had to try and save Pump thus causing her to collapse and then allowed what i think is Lemon Demon? Using its illusions/hypnosis with the darkness to its advantage, luring her into the darkness. She really did not last long huh.

Definitely worth the wait, great work to the team, [Spoilers below] I KNEW IT, it’s been hinted at Mm was gonna fall but I wasn’t expecting Pump to actually almost break free and for MM to use her powers although depleted, but I am curious now that she’s corrupted has the darkness given her back her powers?
So unlike probably most interpretations of the strings (first show of them on pump) I don’t think those are meant to be puppet strings… I think they’re threats… notice how they only wrap around the arms until he starts resisting again… I think they’re threats that if he tries to run that they’ll rip off the rest, and then after he resists again, it’s just them keeping him under control or threatening to rip him apart entirely
