Appreciate the review on the Dash & Dine. I received one free because of the delay in getting my double door Dakotas. Not something I would probably ever use. Agree that the price point is high on these kennels. And they are heavy. The stacking kit is rubber legs that screw into the bottom of the kennel. Would I buy them again? Probably. I do cross country travel with my dogs and I wanted something I thought could really survive a crash without the kennel collapsing or the doors popping open.

The Dine and Dash review you did is GOLD. What a terrible waste of money for something that pricey and the shavings thing. That is HORRIBLE! You come accros like a really responsible dog owner! 👍👍👍

Thanks for the honest review. They are hard to find. I had been curious about the latch systems durability.

Thank you! Just saved me a whole lot of money. We currently use Ruffland Kennels to travel with our sheep dogs but I was considering a switch. Much appreciate your review. Cheers.

SO i was just looking at the Dash 283 watering system. Curious how well its held up. I originally looked at the one with the food, but felt the same as you.....mushy food going back into the water cant be good. So im looking hard at that 3.5 gallon watering system. Can you provide any updates on how well its worked out for ya in the long term? Thanks!

Ruff tuff used to come with handles, still a quality affordable kennel. Bought one ten years ago when they were the only name in town and its still hanging tough, now considering a gunner only for the sake of safety and tougher tie down points.

Keep in mind that gunner kennels are still a 2 piece kennel with screws holding it in place, not sure if I can fully trust that, also the door is plastic and the tie down points don’t look very sturdy almost as if you ratchet them down too much or snug it’ll wear out the points, the 283 kennel looks more sturdy by design and having a steel framed door makes for a better kennel. Just some thoughts to think about, I’d take a ruff tuff kennel over a gunner any day as well.

@@rodrigotorres9128 Have you ever laid your hands on a Gunner? I have one and I know it'll be the last kennel I will ever have to buy. Nothing is gonna break or damage that thing save for a Semi Truck driving over it then going into reverse. The door's outside covering is plastic but it's much harder than the RuffTuff's plastic -- you could never bend the plastic on a Gunner's door with your hands, whereas you can bend in a RuffTuff kennel with little effort. The hinges and the frame on the Gunner door is stainless steel, not plastic. It has double safety latches and a key lock also stainless steel.
The only reason to buy a RuffTuff would be if you don't have $700 laying around to splurge on a Gunner, lol. They are damn expensive, but there is no comparison at all between the two. Another god tier option is Variocage, but I don't personally own one, and you need an SUV fot it to fit in your car.

@@vanthomas9556The other reason to not buy a Gunner is size limitations. I would love to get two Gunners, but can’t fit two side-by-side in my SUV cargo area. I can fit two Ruffland side-by-side with 2” more interior width for each dog compared to Gunner. I understand Gunner’s selling point are its insulated thick walls but I wish they’d make one with thinner walls for people not so concerned with insulation properties. I think they’re missing an entire market of people out there with mid-sized SUVs instead of trucks. My crates are already shaded and out of the elements but I still would love Gunner’s safety features.

Damn I wouldn't want to put my 65lb chessy in a large kennel. 45lb dog should fit in a medium.

Ruffland is fine for inside truck cab but I wouldn’t use one in the bed of my truck. They offer zero protection. You won’t fit two large gunner kennels in a 6 foot bed due to their sizes. Gunner would still need a cover as well and the a mud river one wouldn’t fit their larger sizes so you have to buy one from gunner. No kennel is perfect but if you travel with your dogs, do hunting tests you will find lots of opinions. In reality you can go online and get two intermediate Dakota kennels that have a nice, locking door, that offer great crash protection, for less than 900 dollars to your door. Lucky duck is the other one to look at and seems to be a good mix of the Dakota and gunner. Issue with it now is due to rising costs they aren’t that much less expensive than gunners. Solid review but you could buy a dog for the price you save buying two Dakotas vs two gunners, especially once you buy the covers, tie downs, etc.

What about the doors on the Dakota kennel are they safe can the dog push them open.

On the locking mechanism, do you think it will hold against a dog that is a bit motivated to get out?

I ordered a dakota 283xl kennel got it in & the door was offset & would not close properly sent it back i figured i would go with the dakota hero kennel instead got it in & the door was offset on it as well , you would think dakota would take more pride in the quality of therekennels so needlessly to say that was 800.00 down the drain

Very good review. Based on your review, I decided to go with the Orion Kennels. I’m wondering have you found a better water and food solution? I’m concerned with the bacteria build up.

So I've found a water solution that is WAY easier to clean made by Ruffland - but, it is a watering apparatus and not necessarily for water storage, so you'd have to have two different things

Do you believe that this will hold a dog that is going to try to break out. A large GSD that is determined to not be confined

there are four "nut-zerts" molded into the top of the kennel. You have to buy bolt in d rings from ruffland or a 3rd party, then just use a ratchet strap like all the other kennels.
