*Csx 8501 was downgraded to 3,000 horsepower and sold to LTEX* 2:28 smokey 😎 3:02 *csx 7368 has recently retired and now owned by GECX* 3:35 *csx 8056 has been rebuilt to a SD40-3 **#4024** still in operation!*
Now THAT, is a consist that I like to see! Something else besides GEVO's and SD70's! That SD40-2 desperately needed a new coat of paint, that former Conrail C40-8W had a very nice horn, and that SD50 wasn't even converted to an SD50-2 at the time this video was filmed! LOL Oh, how things have changed since 2009! That was a big year for CSX like how 2012 was for NS and UP!
The flashy red thingy on the end of the train. Stands for End of Train device Pretty much a replacement for a caboose, sends data from the rear of the train to the head end and serves as a rear marker.
Whoevers kids those are need to be controlled. If that kid had gotten hit then the parent would be in prison. Trains. Fun, yes. Dangerous, fucking hell yes.
+Reflex Photography NZ The SD50 (and SD40) are more like the DFT class, all sporting the EMD 645 engine range. Only difference is that the SD40-2 and 50 both have a V16, the DFT has a V12, and is of lower power. (SD40-2 3000hp, SD50 3600hp, and DFT 2400hp)
dieselmupke Yep, they are pretty old beasts now, the DFx class carry the GT22 designation by EMD, they were roots-blown once upon a time but switched to turbo engines when the locomotives got rebuilt. The DXx class are all U-boats (U26C) except for the two DXRs which carry the C30-8Mi designation by GE, even though they look nothing like a C axle Dash 8 you guys have over there So what are we going to do with all this old stock? From what I can understand, we will keep using them for the foreseeable future, there's no plans to retire and replace any of the current Dx (diesel) class locomotives or even the 25Kv EF class electric locomotives
From what I have seen during my 2 visits to NZ and what I see on the web the Kiwi's are pretty good in keeping things for 50-60 years or so, be it locomotives, roling stock, cars etc., they only discard it when it can not be repaired anymore. Lot of the bridges on the Midland Main Line were over 100 year old wooden trestles when I was there in 2010, and only recently Kiwirail started replacing these.
dieselmupke The joys of isolation (to a certain degree). We adopt the "fix it with No.8 wire" mentality, that is we will repair existing parts as much as possible with whatever we have on hand unless we have no option but to buy new parts. I seem to adopt that mentality myself, where I'll cobble something together with whatever I've got lying in the shed here unless its well beyond my skill level.
End Of Train device. the device that hooks to the cupler of the last car. it has the flashing red light, as well as sends brake pipe pressure readings back to the lead loco.

That little boy kinda was saying...RUN,RUN,THOMAS THE TRWAIN IS GETTING AWAY!!.LOL!!.A very nice video.
The clicking spitting noise is water spitters that keep moisture out of the air tanks.
is correct, and where the air has high percent of humidity.

Flashing Rear End Device. AKA F'ing rear end device. At least that's what a buddy of mine that worked for BNSF as a brakeman told me...
Very cool! The little boy wanted to go with!
Iv watched this vid 1000 times OMG THAT RS3L BADASS!!!!! Nice Video!!!!!
Love the good old SD40-2's
Very nice video! I wish I could see CSX EMDs like that now.
Me too.....I miss the YN2 paint, atleast the SD40-2s are still around for now.
Interestingly enough I think both EMDs are still on the CSX roster but the C40-8W is not.
Cracks me up how some conductors will shove back three engines so they don’t have to walk. Explains why some conductors are in the shape they are in.
Lol yep
That's the best paint livery csx ever had, I like it more than the new paint scheme
But it was too expensive to paint so they went for the dark blue that we know to this day because it was cheeper
Check out that lovely sound of EMD's SD50's. Music to my ears.
Yeah they wernt going to exceed 30 going to the feed mill anyways, it seems they found one there if you watch the next G107 vid.
Love that conrail horn and all that sweet EMD 645 music ☺️
Ive been waiting for this one....! Listen to that horn!! 5**** and a fav!!
EMD SD40-2's, SD45T-2's, SD50's and SD60's are the best locomotives ever built. I'm not too much into Wide Cab locomotives.
Not sure you can really include SD50s in that list. Their unreliability was what handed the edge to GE.

Terry Rack your 3rd grade insults do not bother me
you must be fun at parties.
Leslie is the greatest horn of all time.. I'm a RS5T guy tho
Awesome horn!
Weird 7368 doesn't have sun shades over the side windows. Never seen that before.
those Two trailing Units Look Pretty ghastly like they Are Ready to head to the Overhaul shop.
Charles Stevenson a lot of conrail engines did not have them. I'm not sure why but then again I have never looked into it. Think I will right now.
Is that a leaky air hose, or is there purpose to the air coming out of the side of 8056?
That is the dryers poping off
Nice video!
Thanks! And ya, that RS3L really made my day!
*Why do locomotives have that crackling or snapping sound while idling? It sounds like really loud electrical sparks.*
Its from the "spitter valves" which are used to purge moisture out of the air brake system.
@@nikoskavoori163 *Air? It sounds like an electrical "pop"...interesting. Thanks for the answer.*
💀 👻 🕸 HAPPY HALLOWEEN ALL! 🕷 ☠️🦇 🎃
Who was that with the kid?
wats that clicking noise
Awesome 👍
Love that horn
A lightning bolt under the cab window means what? Anyone want to guess?
The lighting bolt on the cab means that the locomotive is an AC unit.
Start your engines!
SD50 kind of looks and sounds a like the DX's in New Zealand.
+Tombstone416 Looks like a DX, sounds like a DFT, those Dash-8s have the same donk as the DX class, minus 4 cylinders

Not a clue, just someone taking their kids out to watch the trains i guess.
What are the trains EOT?
Maxine Stannard end of train device
That SD40 locomotive is no longer on the CSX roster list which it is now retired.
what is EOT???
End Of Train device. the device that hooks to the cupler of the last car. it has the flashing red light, as well as sends brake pipe pressure readings back to the lead loco.
Loco sound is similar to INDIAN RAILWAYS diesel locomotive WDP4,WDP4D,WDG4,WDG4D
EOT?
Hey guys I love you videos!!!!!!!!!!!
wow that horn...is the best thing!!! and I think it is going to a railroad crossing. And that is why
that sd40-2 isnt looking so good..
Oh god no, YN3 is awful......
