Oddly, I do that as well. They are custom pieces for the collector that wants something completely different. One of my wife's watches is a "Franken Watch". 🤣
Würth is a world wide hardware and accessory chain from Germany. The watch has to be some sort of a promotional piece as I am fairly certain that they've never been in the watchmaking business.
I like those Timex as well. My dad had 2 which I still have. 1 still runs after all these years, it's automatic . I have a second with date and manual wind, but still trying to get it to run.
That Timex is particularly sought after. Running you can get about $70 for it. I would like to see you show the better ones at the end with the batteries in them to see if they ran. You can't leave us hanging like that LOL
That's awesome! I love Timex and have quite a few vintage examples myself. In fact I was just working on one this evening. I will be giving away watches in my videos and some of my vintage Timex are going as well. Thanks for sharing and congratulations.
I just found your channel two days ago, and I really enjoy your content. Would you consider doing two-part videos, where we get to see the restored watches from the last bag in part two? Or maybe just one video where you include that at the end. I'd love to know what you did to the Seiko and the Timex!
Hi @poppi4975, thank you very much for your kind words and great idea. Since the bags of broken watches seem to be becoming fewer ( less than a bag every two weeks) I might be doing some restoration videos on some of the watches I found. I really enjoy doing the videos even though the last two bombed in views, but comments like yours do keep me going. Stay posted and I will do a video showcasing the watches I decided to restore.
Timex used to recommend cleaning in lighter fluid. I have had success with brake cleaner with a little spray oil added because it's what I had kicking around.
I remember that. I believe it was to advertise their "V"escapment technology. Which oddly wasn't the escapment wheel, but the balance wheel pivot shape.
Gloves are a good idea, I have had some particularly filthy ladies watches probably because they use more products on their skin. That said the Lanco I wear every day was filthy, you could have done a dna test from it.
OMG, right? I got a G-shock from a bag a while back and there was enough dead skin to turn one's stomach. Lanco, I don't think I have heard of that brand. Is it vintage?
@@steadyjumps The name is owned by the Swatch group but they are made under licence in South Africa. I would say it's probably late 80s early 90s, earlier ones were swiss and really nice.
Hey, Jon thank you so much for reaching out and a big thanks for being patient. I want you and everyone else to know that I will be posting again very soon. I will also be posting more regularly. The next video should be out in a couple of days. It involves a jar instead of a bag.....I cannot make this up... seriously...a jar of watches!!!
I don't think so since it's battery operated. I am thinking of a fault in the crown stem, or in the manufacturing of the watch itself. These cheap, mass produced watches come out of an assembly line type factory. Good suggestion though! 🤔
Love your videos. Keep up the great work
Thank-you 🙏
you should make a franken watch build from scratch using nothing but parts and movement from random watches

Thank-you!. That would also explain the tool themed dial. I know I heard the name before, just not sure where. Interesting!

That's awesome, usually just needs a good cleaning. Is the balance wheel and hair spring functional?
The Guess watch looks like it's based on a western theme, like the decorative elements on a saddle.

If u sell the old timex. This viewer will grab it as a beginner collector 😊
I found a mechanical timex from 1954 sitting in a drawer at an estate sale and they gave it to me for free, and it still works perfect

Definitely the timex Treasure ❤

I use lighter fluid, but I can see brake fluid working as well. Brake fluid is also good for preparing metals that are to be electro-plated.
The first watch may have had an extension to the stem being a larger case
An old tv and radio add for timex said the watch takes a licking and keeps on ticking

@philtowle4683 interesting. I looked up a few examples and yes they are very nice. Quite the variety of styles as well.

huuuuuum
your sound is off, you got a big BZZZZZZ
Thanks for the heads-up, I will do some sound checks for the next video. 😀
Could the first watch be broken due to being wound while still on the wrist?
