- I had a great deal of fun, and a lot of great Tiramisu, when I judged the Finals of the Tiramisu World Cup. Congratulations to the winners and also to everyone that entered. Competitions like this are surprisingly stressful, as well as fun, and anyone who shows up has my admiration!

What a great video! Thank you for your support and for being with us. 🥰
We look forward to seeing you all in Treviso in October 2024! 😍🥄
great competition! recipes for the winning tiramisus are on their website, for anyone looking to try them.
It was an excellent watch, probably the best was the privileged point of view of a judge. Hope Contestants release their recipes!!!
this is a delicious world cup!
A more complete translation of the interview at 3:43 with the Brazilian competitor:
“It would be very important, because in the time I’ve been here I’ve seen that this city lives and breathes tiramisu. Tiramisu is the face of Italy”
That may need editing to fit in the subtitles, and Id say “winning in the city of tiramisu would be huge” gets the gist of what she said, but in case anyone wanted to know exactly what she said, I offer this translation.
thank you! i was thinking that the sentence sounded a lot longer
Thank you so much for translating that because I wanted to know what she said.
I guess they got a Spanish speaking person to translate the Portuguese parts because all the translations sort of get the gist of it but are not quite correct, for example, they omit the part where she says she's 48 years old when she started a new Gastronomy course in college, and then won the Brazilian national tiramisu championship... Also "San Paolo" instead of "São Paulo"
@@Synest2 I didn’t notice the other incomplete translations as much, but I think you may be right that they didn’t have a translator that really knew Brazilian Portuguese.
Ai gente, eu não consigo. Vejo Brasil e imediatamente: “is that a Brazil reference???” 😎
the tiramisu that was sliding at 5:42 was anxious to watch omg
Saw it and came straight to the comments to see if someone else had noticed lol
Baking aside, Mario's handlebar moustache is so cool, and the plate decoration really tell who made that Tiramisu. lol It looks fun.
Grazie!😁
The Man, the Myth, the Legend!
@@MarioDeSantis-ck8yfae yo congrats 👏
It’s the way Patricia started with ‘despite my age…’ (she looks young tho lol) and ended up a champion, really made me tear up a little! Very inspiring!
Italians age gracefully, heard she's 89 years old
SPOLIER! 😋
Well in the case of cooking age is actually a good thing, because so much about cooking is repetition and experience, the trial and error when it comes to the science of combining ingredients and how they affect each other.
Not the best subtitles there, she said "Now that I am 48 years old...".
Yes, she looked so genuinely happy, that I felt it even up here in Sweden 🥰
I was wondering when the tiramisu saga would continue.. I've been waiting for James' recipe for so long!
Waiting with baited breath James!
Waiting the same thing over here
as a barista in Brazil specialized in tiramisu (my family is from Treviso!) I can't say how proud I am for Patrícia. I already knew she'd won but never could have guesses you were one of the judges! As someone young, I hope I get to visit my family's hometown again and get to compete and represent my country as Patricia did!🇧🇷🇮🇹
I'm also a Brazilian with antecessors from Treviso, and would love to compete one day aswell. I do wonder if the fact that the tiramisus aren't allowed time to rest changes the strategies used to get the best texture/flavor, as my recipe is much better after 24h in the refrigerator
@@tiagozilliosoares7988 I too wonder about resting time, but I guess as any other test there are some sacrifices people need to make to compete. I however think you could definitely think outside the box for a recipe on the non-traditional category! Maybe find a way to cool it quickly like liquid nitrogen, or trying to experiment with ingredients like mallow to make a more sturdy consistency
Wow. It was great having you with us. The video and the contents are accurate, and you were able to show the atmosphere of the Tiramisu World Cup.
Thank you for your efforts and professionalism for the judging. I did it once and it was stressful.
We miss you all.
We will show your comments to train those who want to judge at the competition.
Hope to see you soon.
I love that they have these two categories. It really is the best of both worlds, evergreen vs. culinary discovery.
It's funny how happy we brazilians get just by seeing any random Brazilian be recognised for anything. Parabéns Patrícia Guerra, trás essa receita aqui pra nós experimentarmos também! Muito sucesso pra você.
Oh I'd say it's very normal! Every nation loves seeing one of their succeed. Congrats on the victory Patricia!
OMG AN URUGUAYAN CONTESTANT IM SO HAPPY
🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷 Parabéns, Patrícia!
This was a refreshing look at an cooking competition. it almost brought tears to my eyes just be genuine. No competitor was smug everyone seemed humble, i haven't seen that in so long on any reality based thing in so long. Your crisp angelic voice and editing of the video, the graphics to convey information, just wow! I'm so happy I follow you. Thank you for this content.
So... about that ultimate tiramisu recipe...
😁
My greatest pleasure is writing feature articles about people. Telling someone's story and celebrating them to the people who know and love them fills me with a sense of purpose and with joy. I just got the same joy watching this video. Thank you for celebrating these competitors and the champions so wholly.
5:41 captured moments before disaster when the middle Tiramisu slips onto the floor.
I thought I was the only one who saw that lol
Not the stuffy atmosphere that I expected. Everyone was so humble and down to earth.
I would've never expected you to be a Tiramisu World Cup Judge, but I guess your coffee expertise and flavour-detection abilities (which is highly related to coffee tasting) does match up!
Hope you'd do more food-related content again, cos I highly enjoyed your ice cream (for the affogato video) and tiramisu vids!
A coffee expert judging a coffee flavoured dessert seems obvious to me. 🤔🤔
Added to my fear of James judging my coffee (which actually helps me being more diligent with it), there's a new fear of him judging my tiramisù. The good news is that I'm not competing in any world cup and it's highly unlikely James would come to my place 😅
Can I come to your place?
@@OrangeTangg sure!
I'm sure your tiramisu is lovely 😊what's your special bit? I use frangelico 👀
Great idea: James ABSOLUTELY should visit you, judge your coffee, and your process, and give you (and all of us) some tips, so we can all learn and enjoy. Would be a nice series, too!
@@Mind7765 do you really want to hurt me? Do you really want to make me cry?
What an honour to be a judge in that competition. I really commend your humility towards it.
Pleasantly surprised by this video, wholesome content with to-the-point description, I enjoyed watching this. The passion for Tiramisu really came through, I had no idea it was so big.
Great video, but I must admit that I am really jealous. What a great opportunity to taste such great Tiramisu done by such passionate people.
Thank you, that video really made my day.
Damn the graphics and editing are world class today! 🏆 the fact that no pros are allowed makes this sound a lot more fun than I first assumed
I love that James always plays with new camera choices, but I always found that extreme close-ups are very unnerving to me.
my relationship with james isn't quite parasocial enough to have his face that close to mine
What a perfect little gem of a video. As usual. It took us inside a world, covered the competition, got us engaged, explained super cool details, and didn’t waste a second.
I don't know anyone who would turn down being a judge at the Tiramisu World Cup! I would say YES to that every year! Hope you had fun, James! We were hoping every time you post a tiramisu-related video, it would be the ultimate tiramisu recipe video! Stop teasing us and get back in the kitchen! 👨🍳
Very impressive editing work (cuts, artwork, framing) on this one James!! Thank you for investing in that! Your use of the GoPro with the "Judge's thoughts" section was particularly brilliant.
Seriously love that you started by establishing that this is a super special and important thing for these people to compete.
James comes across as just an amazing and kind human. Well done as always.
What a wonderful group of passionate people! Thanks for sharing!
amazing little summary of your experience, as tastefully edited as the entries looked
Wonderful, I really enjoyed watching this and listening to your thoughts. Our home stay student enjoyed watching this too, as her father back in Japan often makes Tiramisu.
This was great! Thanks for sharing your experience on this! I agree with other comments that we are eagerly awaiting a James Hoffman Tiramisu recipe, especially with your learnings from this!
Great episode - thanks for bringing us along.
Dare I say I think it's a fascinating addition that if you're employed in the hospitality industry you are not permitted to enter.
It comes as no surprise that they asked James to be a judge, given how important the coffee component is.
I've volunteered to make tiramisu for a NYE dinner party of 18 and I fear they will judge me far more harshly than Barista Hoffman and his fellow judges did for the competitors in this competition.
Thanks for bringing this to us.
This format is unique, I love it! Thanks for making this!
I would take the job of clean up for a taste of what I just saw! How fortunate for James and his crew!!!!
I don't know how you keep turning out these beautiful, wholesome, gems of videos!
What a great experience and a fun day. Thanks for a great video. It's given myself some inspiration for making a desert for Christmas .
When i honeymooned in italy this summer i made it a goal to try (almost) every restaurant i went to's tiramisu. Its honestly crazy how many variations of the classic version people make and everyone was good in its own way! There was a place in Ravello that was so good my wife and I almost ordered a second one haha
this is such a happy watch.. thank you so much for making a shiny december day!
thanks for filming this! was fun and entertaining to watch from australia!
Such a charming video, I enjoyed that very much! Thank you!
While I wouldn’t want to judge the competition (don’t think I have a refined enough palette) it would be an amazing thing to incorporate to a trip To Italy!
5:42 almost got a panic attack as the middle one started sliding
Something about the way "sweetness, texture and balance of favor" was visualized kinda cracked me up. Like, Jame's Hoffman's Tiramisu Mind Palace
It's my favorite dessert so of course I'm jealous, but I'm way under-qualified to judge this. What a lovely opportunity and thank you for sharing it with us.
Well that was lovely - not only a really nice look into the event, but also maybe one of my favourite edits on this channel! Tasty all round
Thank you for giving us the history of it and rules
Parabéns Patrícia e Mario 👏👏👏
My anxiety spiked when the tiramisu started sliding off the plate @5:42
this is amazing! thanks for taking us along and congrats to the winners! i kinda wish i could be there since tiramisu is my favourite dessert of all time 🤤
I absolutely loved this. Both the competition and the video. On the video side, I think you balanced it very well-honestly, I wasn't going to click on it since these "review" episodes aren't for me, but I gave it a try and I'm glad I did! I loved learning about the chefs and I loved learning about what you were thinking as a judge.
As for the competition, I am absolutely in love, and I'm only sad I can't easily make it there being in the US. I always enjoy these smaller types of competitions, and the choice to allow only non-professionals is excellent. (I honestly wouldn't mind if there was a third category for the professional, but it would have to be clearly shown as the Side Category; I'm most interested in the individuals who just happened into making these desserts!)
I love that this exists. It gives me hope.
Next level production. Bravo, sir!
love seeing people take a chance and have a go. good on em!
Just like all of us watching, I'm sure the competitors also had a great day :) Thanks for sharing, James!
What a wonderful wonderful event and lovely video!!
This editing and video format feels a little different from your normal stuff, which can be risky, so just wanted to say that I really enjoy the more active content and editing you’ve been doing recently!
My mouth keep drooling the whole time i watch this.
tiramisu world cup judge might be the best job its possible to imagine
Vai Patrícia 🇧🇷
So lovely to see you coming back to my hometown 😃
What a wonderful format for a competition!
Bora Patriciaa!!!!! 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Great video as always James!
That sounds brilliant! Oh I wish I had been there at that competition
Great video! Professor Hoffmann
Oh James, I bloody love you!
Thanks for sharing!!!
Hooray! This is wonderful!!! ❤
I wish this video was longer! Would’ve loved to hear more about people’s individual recipes etc
Tiramisu is peak Italian food. Few high quality ingredients combined into something that's undeniably delicious, yet far from simple to make.
I was hoping you would ask them more questions about the coffee they use, because there's really no right answer to the kind of coffee you can use in a tiramisu. It's something that would be worth experimenting on.
I did not know that there's another world cup I need to visit.
Cielo quedó segunda! Representó muy bien a Uruguay! 💪
I could have watched an hour of this content , so great
Well, now you have to feature the two on your channel! Would be interesting to hear more about them.
This felt like a Netflix documentary, and I mean it as a great compliment lol
Yay! A tiramisu video!
I wonder if the fact that the tiramisus don't rest in the fridge changes the strategies used to get the best texture/taste.
My tiramisu, for example, is much better after 24h on the refrigerator, as the cream texture sets perfectly
I was thinking and wondering the same thing, because I thought the lady fingers needed to absorb some of the moisture and that takes a little while. And I thought all of the flavors needed time to get to know each other.
What a wonderful video!
Looks fun!
Great video. Beeing from Brazil and discovering that there was a brazilian chef competing and winning was prety cool
"No Professionals allowed"
most contestants:
"gastronomy is my passion", "i study culinary arts", ... so much for "no professionals"
that on guy: "i worked at a Lidl"... me: THATS THE SPIRIT :D
Beautiful
Great seeing you there James. Until next year! Maybe I’ll have figured out how to keep it from turning to soup 😂
One of my favorite desserts. Would have loved to have been there.
Tiramisu is just the best desert ever, if made right. I crave italian tiramisu since I last visited italy a few years ago. I need to go back....
I really liked and enjoyed this video. Thank you so very much James. I think I may go visit this event next year.
omg, how cool! at work right now but will definitely watch later tonight! 😀
James Hoffman + Tiramisu = Match made in heaven
Happy to see Brazil winning, but some of the subtitltes are a bit iffy to be honest. Translating what would be "Would be very important because from the days I have been here I saw how this city lives the tiramisu, the tiramisu is the face of Italy" to "winning in the city of tiramisu would be huge". Anyways, great video James.
Amazing! I love tiramisu so much, I had to immediately go to the store and buy a mediocre one just to get my fix but now I want to make my own at home lol
Another Hoffman video. Time to heat up my Bripe and enjoy.
Just found you by way of ‘fried coffee’ …followed, looks like a great channel, when I have time…this did catch my eye, as I remember making the worlds largest tiramisu at Tutto-Bene some 30yrs ago/at least 650 big tastings that day…just reminiscing-can’t wait to remember about coffee…(lost my memory 25yrs ago)
Damn I could watch a two hour documentary on this contest, very cool you got to judge!
James should be the one providing the coffee for next year’s competition
🇧🇷🇧🇷Bom trabalho
Great detail to hear each person in their own languaje, milticultural chanel !! Eso fue la cereza en el pastel 🇲🇽
Mmmm, when will I get asked to judge a cake competition? That is something I can get on board with!
Great video James, I am a little disappointed that you cut it at the end with "I hope you have a great..." a great what James, whaaat?!? 🤣
