Steven I'm 26 I got oil burner license back in October and watching you're videos on oil burner helped me out a ton more than in school at Peterson now looking into gas and already learning more as time goes on
Flicking lights when an appliance is on means loose neutral. Could be in device, at panel, in meter pan or at street pole. Super important to get it fixed
Your customer must got money to burn because he keeps talking like he wants a new boiler even tho you keep telling him he dont need one. And its nice to hear someone in Massachusetts aint so sensitive and woke.
Steven, I came across your videos quite by accident. I was looking on the internet for a new gas valve for my 25 year old Utica boiler that was suffering from a delayed ignition issue. I installed the boiler myself and often wondered about the newer high efficiency condensing models. After watching several of your videos and research. I will stick with my cast iron 83% efficient model and still be money ahead and have less head aches. It's nice that you take Miss Molly with you on your job. I wish my dog could go to work with me. I tell him daily that he is better than people! You gotta love a dog! I love how you run your business and interact with your customers. Have a Great Day!
You are a kind sort. I recall it got a whole lot less stressful for me when nav came in, finding the place was half the pain. But here in Oz it's always panic station at the last min when the real heat came in and the customer behaves like some kid that's had their happy meals toy stolen. Then you are in a double gabd roof where it's 97 outside and over 125 in the roof. Had to pull the plug on it after bad heat stress.
Good repair. Not surprised you had a call back, even with a new thermocouple, the hold open coil for the pilot valve can become weak and pilot won't stay lit.
What’s the going rate to change a gas valve? I work for a gas utility but don’t do repairs, only safety checks. I see a little side business when I retire someday.
Steve knows how to titan a joint because of experience one grunt = x number of foot-pounds. Today code writers are all getting paranoid, and want us to buy expensive tools to calibrate how many foot-pounds, experience breeds correctness.
yeah gas furnaces don't need to be cleaned every year like oil but these oil companies that also do service want you to believe that because they're no longer selling you that yearly service or the oil .. so they charge you $ to change your filter and thats something you should do yourself every couple months
question: i had a new gas valve put in and when it fires up and shuts down it makes a loud kaWHOOSH sound. would replacing it with a slow opening valve fix that? did it with the old valve too. ever since we bought our house, its made that sound. the gas valve is a robertshaw 7000ber.
Code where I live uses flex line from the shut-off valve exit which has hard pipe inlet. Then the flex line is attached to the hard line exiting the furnace attached to the furnace gas valve. Two reasons, it can be bent into a moisture trap and the soils in our area are very plastic (its bentonite), so the foundation and floor slab the furnace is on settle or raise at different rates, the flex line prevents leaks or breaking of hard line. 👍🏻👌🏻🤷♂️😉💪
I always thank God that I was born a man. I just have to sh*t, shower and shave. I missed the old days, when you could tell whom was whom. People are too confused nowadays.
I have gas furnace in house now for 23 years and never had it serviced, it runs fine. Also, put in four gas boilers in rentals 30 years ago with no annual checkups. Only had one problem and that was with the thermocouple.
sure it does not hurt but its also not needed if you have the money to pay a guy to come do something you can do your self for free then sure do it wont hurt but do you need it.... no just leave well enough alone and next thing you know 20 years will be past and never spent a dime doing anything to it

That was a pretty clean unit.

Hey Steve and Miss Molly! Workin’ again y’all. 👍👍. Miss Molly lookin’ quite stylish Steve!
No leak check on the redone gas fittings?
Thats what i thought.
Your customer must got money to burn because he keeps talking like he wants a new boiler even tho you keep telling him he dont need one. And its nice to hear someone in Massachusetts aint so sensitive and woke.
No drip leg may be the issue…crap getting into the gas valve…Teflon tape on original threads too
Was glad to see Steve add one. Could definitely have gotten some crap plugging up the passages in the valve without a proper drip.
Gas is refined so well a lot places don’t even call for drip leg in there code now. I agree better to have one!
I don't use Nat.Gas Teflon tape because of the possibility of plugging up the valve. Paste only.
@@46fd04 yup. This looked like white Teflon tape
@@drohvac4583 Yeah, but all it takes is some maintenance on the lines somewhere to introduce some crap into the otherwise pristine gas

Great topic. ☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️
Hey Steve what tool is that to open the orfice
A very good repair and now to code ; They sell a tool called a broach to clean pilot burner orifices .
Great Video. Great Job. Thank you for sharing
Order a set of thumb drills they have the orifice size on each drill!
Thanks again for the videos !😐👍🏻🥃🍺🇺🇲
Miss Mooly has the Grinch Feet....What a Cutie
When I got the gas valve replaced, my old school plumber set the gas pressure by clocking at the meter 😅
That’s what I do, plus/minus 5% of input rating👍🏻
Well stocked truck.
The bird respiratory discussion reminds me of how they used to keep canaries in coal mines to monitor toxic gases.
Then the band Police and Sting, made a hit song title that 🤷♂️😎

You got a lot of gas this year!
Nothing like butting the gas line up against the expansion tank. What kind of coffee naked does he have that blinks the lights?
wiring problem or something loose ground or bad wiring who knows but i bet its not the coffee maker
The customer said new boiler. That boiler has 20 years of life left in it.
No dirt leg on the gas line, just a plug in the TEE, never a smart idea.
I guess there is nothing to be done to extend the life of the gas valve, huh?
I had a feeling we’d be back here but considering the cost of the valve it was worth a shot.

Just give it a little how ya doin, mama!
I’ve got a calibrated wrist...tighten just until it starts to strip, the back off a 1/4 turn. 🤷♂️😏😆😉💪👍🏻👌🏻

the gas valve is a robertshaw 7000ber.
might want to check the pilot hood and make sure the burner are clean ..some tire up hard just how the pilot hood ignites the burners
Hello Steve!
I thought Steve you don’t need a drip anymore because the gas is a lot drier than years ago
That thing is installed 20 years ago. So they didnt do it right 20 years ago. Has nothing to do with 'gas is a lot drier these days'.

I don’t mean to be a pain but you could have checked the mag head mil volts before you left the second time?
write up an invoice still , tax deductible.
Writing an invoice means added revenue. You end up in the same place.
@@1768ify no it doesn't. it means you had a warranty call back. it is like a write off.
So that valve was almost 22 years old.
Looks like chamber needs a cleaning

i got gas in my orrifice momma
Is it clogged?
I disagree having someone out every year is a scam. It's a gas fired appliance and it doesn't hurt to have it serviced annually.
Agreed, for many reasons
